They've kinda got a point. I think most people pick their favorite Turtle based on traits they find in themselves.

Or the traits they admire the most and wish to see within themselves.

Seven year old me thought Leonardo was possibly the coolest character ever... which I still do and I try very hard to be as much like him as I can! :tgrin:
It's part of what I like about the Turtles so much all four of them are very inspirational in their own way!
I think I'm a healthy mix of them all. If we're talking OT, probably most like Raph, the jokester. 2K3? Donnie, the nice guy. Leo, the honor-bound close second. The Next Mutation? Venus, the 'girls can kick butt too' voice of reason in the series. ... What? I'm not allowed to identify with a female character?? O_o

When I was younger my little bro was Leo and I was Raph....and at same time at school, my bro was Mike and me was Don....
Curiously....when we get older...I become more in a Leo, and my bro become in a Raph.... The other two characteristics remain the same...:trazz:

Yeah, I came across this some time ago, and I absolutely love it. They're completely right. It's a pretty rare thing for such a distillation to come through, but the Fred Wolf series, and many of the other adaptations as well, really managed to capture something archetypal. Thundercats came somewhat close, I suppose, but the lines aren't as clearly drawn. Does anything else even come close?
When I was a kid, my friends and I each had our favorite turtle, and sure enough, we were a complete set. These days, my friends and I STILL have our favorites, and they haven't changed. We're not a complete set anymore (we're missing a Donatello, and we've got an extra Mikey and possibly another Leo), but there is certainly some truth to the idea that these archetypes compliment one another.
As for myself, Leonardo, then and always. "Turtles fight with honor!"

When I was a child, I was always Leonardo....I'm kind of a natural born leader, so...there you go. Sometimes, though..I would venture off the Turtle path and be someone like Ghengis Frog, or Ace Duck, or Casey Jones, or Usagi Yojimbo. Bt I'd always come back to Leonardo. And of course my friends were the others.
I remember I got into a GIANT brawl with some kintergardeners when I was in first grade. They were claiming to be the Ninja Turtles. But my friends and I knew that WE were the Ninja Turtles. Not joking, we had a giant Nija Turtle bgrawl. I was literally fighting pretending to be Leonardo. These kids were all Foot Soldiers.
They all pinned me down at one point, with one kid on top clawing his nails into my face, and I remember thinking, even at the time, "Wow--this is like Raph getting beat up in the movie!"
I always pretended to be a Turtle. In bed (in my sewer lair), playing Little League baseball, swimming, hiking...you name it.
Now, as an adult--personality wise, I'm a good mixture of them all. A honor-bound, natural born leader (Leo) with an occasional hot-temper (Raph), who can be an intelligent, thoughtful, reserved guy at times (Don), but also knows how to cut loose and have a ball (Mikey).

I'm like Mikey almost in total, but I love Leonardo and I want to be like him. Nuff said.
