I had already started a thread like this, but it's gone now. I'm embarrassed to say that I have done very little to this project since I started it about six months ago, but I'm hoping to finish it soon.

I had been trying to find a use for the two stray Slice n' Dice Shredder blades that I used on his hands as claws, and now I wish I had ordered two more from MyTeeFineStuff so that I would have had two for each hand. I can always go back and rethink it later on, but I may just leave it how it is. If anyone has any questions about what I have left to do, feel free to ask.

Discuss.

The WIP looks good so far! Slash needs more lovin' IMO. I should learn how to make custom figurines, it looks like fun from what I saw in other threads.

Slash has probably been done more than you would think, several people used the NECA turtles as bases for him, and one guy who worked on Tales of the TMNT Vol. 2 used a 2002 Leo to make one, which was featured in one of the issues. There have been countless repaints of the original figurine, too... but yeah, they're more obscure for the most part.

Is this a bootleg? I mean...that pink belt.

No, I painted the belt that color. It was supposed to be a reference to the purple belt variant figure from the 1990's line. I mixed the paint up to be a bit pinker than I expected... :teek:

Edit: I guess it could be another reference to the OTHER meaning of "TMNT Slash" :tlol:

Really now? It's a shame I probably will never see most of them.

I did a Mutatin' Slash custom a while back. When I get the time I'll upload it on figurerealm.

I was thining about that the other day, and wondering why you didn't use Mutatin' Tokka as a base.

the pink belt and floral background show a much different side of slash :)

Looks good so far. I think the curved blade on the right wrist is the way to go, as it looks a lot better to me than the straight one on his left wrist.

I think the end result will have two of each blade per hand.

I was thining about that the other day, and wondering why you didn't use Mutatin' Tokka as a base.

Tokka's a bigger, thicker figure than the standard Turtle, and despite the standard Tokka figure being just a remodeled Slash, the characters themselves are completely different sizes. That, and the limbs and stuff were completely different between Mutatin' Tokka and the other Mutatin' Turtles, and I wanted to use the ones the others had without going through the hassle of swapping limbs.

I like what you got going on cjj... are you going to repaint the green to match the original figure too?

No, I've already repainted it to match the Archie books...

I can see you put in a lot of effort, and the paint job is relatively clean, but this doesn't really scream Slash to me. I think if you were to match the original figure in skin tone (like a teal or turquoise,) and went for purple instead of pink, you'd be on the right track. I know you're going for the Archie look, but in doing so it doesn't really give him that immediate recognition... I don't know how far you're looking to take this thing, but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to sculpt some shell spikes out of something and cut holes in the back to shove 'em in. Either way, neato, & good luck if you're not done yet.

So you're making some weird amalgam of Archie's Slash and Playmates' Slash? Kinda odd.

Ha ha, go for it. I'm embarrassed that I haven't finished mine yet, may work on it tomorrow. When I'm confident that I've finished it to the best of my ability I'll offer it for sale.

I've actually done MORE work on this custom since these pictures were taken. I'll probably have it finished by the end of the week. Planning to sculpt the hand-claws by hand instead of using the ones from Slice and Dice Shredder since I can't justify ordering them from www.myteefinestuff.com right now because of the high shipping charges. I'll save close to $10 by just doing it myself, which I think I'm capable of after seeing how the snapping turtle shell spikes came.

awesome custom CJJ.

I do have to say two things bother me though. The spike going through his belt. I get why you did it, but it just looks...odd...to me, i think cause theres no detail showing it tearing through or anything, just kinda appears lol

again, with this custom i see why its been designed so "simple", but it just stands out as weird for me

the other would be the pink straps/belt. again I get why you did it, but it stands out a LOT with the other color schemes, I personally think a bit of a darker pink would have suited better

Still loving it though, i <3 slash customs

any plans for weapons/accessories?

I don't think the color scheme will strike you as so odd when the custom is finished. I agree that the spikes coming out of the belt are odd and I may remove those.

I have plans to make the sicko sai, but that's it...

good choice, you should consider at least to make his knife (whats a figure with only 1 accessory!?) and maybe even his mace

as for the belt-spike situation, i dont think it should be REMOVED, because it just makes sense anatomically, maybe change the belt so it has like a "loop" for the spike to go through or something?

The issue I have with making more than one accessory is the amount of Model Magic I have to work with. The stuff ain't cheap, and I need some of the red and purple to make a birthday present for a friend. Yes, I'm that f**kin' broke. :trolleye:

Are you going to paint the skin as well? If not, you gotta take a razor and shave off the blotchy paint outside of the pads & mask.
That aside, looks pretty damn rad dude.

The skin has already been painted, I need to mix up the same color and touch it up a bit...using a razor to scrape would only remove the green paint application that I did so that the figure wouldn't look like 2003 Raphael.

This figure will only have one weapon, Slash's sicko sai. I did quite a bit of sculpting/tooling today so I should be able to post more pics tomorrow night.

I couldn't match up the paint exactly, but the color variations look much more drastic because of the flash. I still have to apply Mod Podge to anything I "sculpted" to seal the additions to the actual figure for shipping and display (assuming anyone actually buys this thing for what I want for it)...

I picked this up from him. I love Slash. My favorite version being the cartoon version. I know I'm in the minority there. Something about his cartoon appearances was always so tragic to me. He never seemed truly evil, more a child being used by abusive parents.

In the cartoon, he was sort of a retard...in the Archie series, he was this dark anti-hero emo/goth turtle of sorts.

I know I'd rework the claws so they are more uniform and look less like PlayDoh.

personally, if it were mine id be bothered witht he missmatch paintjob touchup, even though you say the pics make it stand out more, if i could notice it, it'd bother me, im kinda OCD on stuff like that, heh.

then secondly as i originally stated when you were still working on it, i wanted to see all the weapons lol.

and finally, as for the mention of re-doing the hand spikes, yeah the archie style is much like that, but 1. this obviously isnt the archie style seeing as its on a 2k3 figure, and 2. thats the point of customs, make it how you want it

I'm in no way putting down your work,i think it looks great, but itd be fun to see it continue on

anyways, while were talking about possible theory future work on this figure ill say a bit more:
-I wouldnt mind seeing him with a black belt instead of pink and possibly black knee/elbow/wrist pads
-I'd like to see his shell modded. it's not CJJ's fault that its so flat, thats just what the base figure was like, but it bugs the crap out of me, its almost like he has no shell. I thinkt he spikes on the shell dont match well with the flatness of it (granted the spikes look great, my complaint is with the shells design) I think giving it more of a larger dome style would suit it well, much like slash from the OT figure

Which one, the ones where the claws are about the same length...or where he has no claws at all?
