View Full Version : So is this place going to explode?

Just a random thought I just had. Do you think when the property really gets going again this forum is going to see a large influx of new blood? I mean especially with Nickelodeon driving the property; since that means a substantial amount of exposure.
Are we going to get floods of new fans in here? And how do you feel about your answer?

Nah, kids today are probably too "cool" to use message boards. Everybody knows those things were sooo last decade. :tcool:
I doubt we'd see any brand-new TMNT fans, but maybe some adults who never joined before.

I think the new comics and up coming film are probably more likely to bring in new people versus the new cartoon, simply because the target audience of the first two is more likely to be the ones to use message boards.
Maybe we will get more Turtles people on Tumblr thanks to the show. :tgrin:

I would imagine yes. I don't know if it will really be bursting at the seams, but surely there will be a large flow of new members for the next year or so. I'm sure such was the case when 2k3 debuted, and prior that, volume 4. My opinion on that is 50/50, 'cause it's both a good thing, and a (not bad perse, but not great) bad thing. It will make all of Krangs hard work and upkeep worth it, we may make some new E-pals, plenty of discussion and even more varied opinions, etc. On the other side of the spectrum, odds are that like, 30% or more of the people who sign up will post a handful of times then never return, and I'm sure a bunch will join and not post period (not that both don't happen already). Plus, as always with new members there will likely be a lot of repeat threads, & people who don't understand we're a sarcastic bunch with a few trolls in the barrel. In addition to that, new fans and returning fans always have negative things to say, like "This new stuff is gay, the original is best!", "Why are there 4 Raphaels!", "My favorite is Ralph.", and more often then not will ask questions that are solved via a simple google search. Also, there have been times where people joined up and seemed like they were gonna stick around, I got buddied up with a bit & then they vanished. That can suck. I look forward to the influx either way 'cause any interest in the turtles is good interest, and we all have something in common with other fans. The good stuff outweighs the not-so-good, despite my "bad list" is longer than the former, so I'm hopeful it will be for the best!

Nick will have their own TMNT forum, I think any new kids will stay there. Likewise IDW has a TMNT section on their site for new comic fans.
So who would come here? Perhaps some people who find this place on google.

Well considering I think 90% of the Turtles fans on the IDW forum are from here and I have already seen people inviting the few people that are not on this forum from IDW to come here, I think we may still get some comic fans to this forum :twink:

We'll definitely get an influx of new blood. This IS the #1 Forum on the net... :D
It'll be the same as what happened when the new show came in 2K3. This place was quiet until the big announcement about a new show - then we had the huge growth spike.

Nah, we've got to get with the times.
Technodrome ChatRoulette. The slogan: "I'm telling you that's a tail!"
Defintely, I made a thread about how there is no way the new show isn't going to be a huge hit (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=33491). And we'll see a ton of new fans, mostly younger aged fans, I doubt we'll get many older fans and if we do its for the new movie not the new show. Then again, I haven't noticed a lot of new fans on Power Ranger message boards, and that show is also a hit on Nick, though I should point out that I haven't been really active in the PR fandom since the new show started and the PR fandom is much bigger so it'd be harder to tell if there are many new members so I might not be the best to judge that.

I came to the Drome because of the 4kids series. I'm sure some will come because of the new comic and TV series.
Like Powder said, it can be a mixed bag. Some people will be great additions, while others will barely be additions at all.
I hope we don't get many Jesters out of this Nick deal ;)
I first found the drome after I saw Season 1 of the OT on DVD at the store and it re-ignited my TMNT love, I didn't register until Season 2 was announced on DVD the year after though.

There's always an influx of new users when something new launches. Some stick around, most don't, but however regular they may or may not become, no harm in having new fans around the place.

Nick has forums on their official site for all their shows, don't they? They'll have their own TMNT forum where the kids will post, similar to when 4kids had a TMNT forum.

I came to the Drome because of the 4kids series.
I came because of the classic series when it first started getting released on dvd. first I was on TV Tome (remember tv tome?) TV Tome had a link to this place and I checked it out and was mainly a lurker until one day a particualr thread caught my eye and I joined so I could join the discussion. And here I am six years later...

Was there anything to discuss here before Vol. 4 and the 4kids series started?
The TMNT franchise had essentially been dead for like 5 years before that.
if you type any equivalent of TMNT/Ninja turtles forum/message board you get the technodrome as the first or top 3 result, you don't have to know what a technodrome is to find these forums.

I'm sure the site will explode when the new show starts. He-Man.org did when the new show started and again recently when Mattel started the new toy line. Also Thundercats have been rebooted with a toy line and new series and Thundercats.com has had a huge surge in members in recent weeks.

I'm sure there was plenty of fanfics and bullshi**ing about OT episodes and the movies like we do now.

Which was about it. At the time the OT wasn't on DVD, so the only way people could watch old eps is either from those official VHS tapes that were released in the 90's, (and most eps were not on VHS), or whoever recorded them on TV and saved the tapes. This is the reason most old fans hadn't seen any OT eps in YEARS until the DVDs were out.
Likewise Next Mutation bombed and the last most recent comic series was the Image series.
There really wasn't much to talk about from that era. Didn't help matters that's when the Pokemon craze started and the anime boom happened in the U.S., causing most TMNT fans to drift at the time.

well besides watching them on VHS you could always download them with those sub-titles.

I actaully join bc I was google-ling stuff bc I was wondering if they were going to make a sequal for TMNT and Google pulled up a thread about it. I looked at the thread and was very interested.
I kept google-ling for news of a sequal and of course pulled up another thread from the technodrome, I finally got a account on here, I wasn't really "active" but that is bc TMNT was basically in a dead zone and then Nick bought them and I began to post again, but went inactive again, but then I jst started getting on here a lot bc I began to gain interest I guess... IDK but Im here to stay :D

I had casually lurked around here a few times before joining so I was aware the 'Drome existed. Then back in 2006 I began to start *really* collecting the old comics and then news about TMNT hitting the silver screen made me think more and more about this place.
Also, I had tried to talk about the Turtles on a couple of other places and realized I would be in good company here at the 'Drome. When I initially joined I lurked for the most part because I felt like I should have something worthwhile to say. I stayed a sporadic poster until about 2009 when Powder began posting and saw "Dang, I can talk about anything like this kid." :D

Oh stop talking like you were there. TMNT online fandom has been strong and healthy since 1996-ish, albeit muchmuch smaller back then. If there wasn't new TMNT stuff to talk about, we spent the interim being *gasp* friends. And I still count many of my IRL best friends as people I met during those early days.

At the time I also remember Dan Berger posting those stories on the TMNT letters pages which included Venus on the official site. Each Turtle had a letters page and told a different version of the story.
Kind of odd since back then nobody thought the Turtles would ever come back.

I miss all the cool "mom-and-pop" TMNT fan sites from back in the day (seems like a lot of them were geocities). Those were my first crash course in the Mirage & Image comics. I mostly just browsed them for information, but it did seem like the people who ran them were really tight-knit. Dawnatello, Greenwillow, and Ninjaturtlesnetwork were really kept the fandom going when there weren't any new media on the horizon.

I'm pretty sure I joined this site when I first heard about the 2K3 toon and was looking for more information, then stumbled upon these cursed forums. Sadly, I've had off and on again involvement on this site, due mostly to my work schedules changing throughout the years.
It's strange to think of some of the people that used to be apart of this site back in the day that aren't active anymore. Some people, like Roseangelo and Jephael and Machias Banshee and a few others have been here since I first joined, but some people that I became friends with like Sango Dango and Kali have disappeared. I always wonder what happens to the people that leave.
Nostalgia, friends.

I found these forums multiple times when searching the net for tmnt stuff, ten I realized I coul probably contribute so I joined (It was also cause' I was 13 by then).
