View Full Version : When the series was still running, did anyone hope it'd have as many eps as the OT?

Back when we were in Seasons 1-3, I was surprised that we had hit 78 episodes in only 3 years. In fact, I was shocked. We had that many episodes in only 3 years and I figured the show would at least last somewhere around 7 seasons, which I was right.
Unfortunately Season 5 and 7 only had 12 and 13 eps, because otherwise we would have gotten really close to the OT's episode count.
The 4kids series clocked out at 156 total episodes, right? But if you add Turtles Forever as a 3-parter, the Mayhem at Mutant Island shorts/episodes, and lots of the other shorts, we come somewhere to around 160+ episodes.
If only Season 5 and 7 had 26 episode seasons, that would have been great.

The show gave us 26 episode seasons for 5 different seasons.
Come to think of it, I really do feel as if Season 5 and 7 should have had 26 episodes. They would have had more time to pad things out, give us more episodes in New York, and tie up some more loose ends.
It felt like Rat King was supposed to get an episode in BTTS but they ran out of time.

I just hoped it would have a good story. For the first 5 seasons it did. I am pleased.

Technically season five only had twelve completed episodes. The episode with Hun and the Garbageman being revealed to be twin brothers was never finished.
I liked how this show didn't rush with about 50 episodes in one season to get to 65 total episodes quicker, the way that shows used to back in the day. In my opinion when you do a large number of episodes at once like that, you get a lower quality product. Season three, with 47 episodes (and season 4 with however many episodes it had) had many subpar episodes. I prefer seasons one and two, where there was only five and thirteen episodes. Also, towards the end of the series where there was less episodes per season, I think that those episodes were better as well.
I'm also ok that the series didn't have as many episodes as the original cartoon for another reason. The Back To The Sewer season really felt like that show was running out of gas. I don't think that I would've wanted another 26 episodes of the show with the show being past its prime. I'm glad that the BTTS episodes were made so that the turtles were able to come home from the future. And after that, I think that the series ended at the perfect time.

I always hoped for as many episodes as possible but I don't want the quality or story to lack because of it. The OT is not a template for how the rest of the TMNT cartoons/shows should pan out in my opinion.

I'm grateful we had a completed series. The show was complete in my eyes after Ninja Tribunal ended. Plus the movie capped it off, not that many cartoon shows get to end on their terms, TMNT did.
I mean look at great shows like He-Man, Spectacular Spider-man and Wolverine and the X-Men. They didn't get to last as long as they could. TMNT did.

I think it was great when there were season long story arcs or short story arcs that spanned a few episodes in each season, and I was kind of hoping the show would reach a relatively high number of episodes, but about halfway through Fast Forward, I checked out of the 2K3 series completely.

He was in the last episode, but only for a few seconds.
When the show first premiered, I thought it would have been cool for it to be as long as the old toon. I thought there were gonna be more than 193 episodes at the time season 3 was over, it seems they were never gonna stop making 26 episode seasons and the show was really popular. But I think 156 or whatever is considered a lot, and I'm satisfied.

I think I share gobo and FearlessLeader's thoughts on this.
Personally, I think that seasons 1-5 were solid. I do remember liking the show so much, that I was hoping it would even EXCEED the 87 toon's episode count. Buuuut, then we got Fast Forward, and I no longer felt that way. When Back to the Sewers was announced, as apprehensive as I was about the new designs, I was hopeful that it would return things back to the same quality as before, since they were coming back to New York (this was before I found out about the cyber stuff). BttS ended up being even WORSE that FF, so by that point, I just wanted it to end before things went anymore down the drain.
This is why I'm thankful that the fifth season had an ending that works well as a season finale, and while the less than stellar designs from FF and especially BttS were used for Turtles Forever, there isn't really anything in the movie that references FF or BttS (even the theme songs for those two that are featured in the ending credits to Turtles Forever, are instrumentals, so I can still keep pretending those two don't exist). Well... okay, ya, there's "It's Ninja Time", but that still doesn't create any plot holes, imo.

I didn't like the ff stuff at all but yeah everything before that was amazing...still think the first 2 seasons were some of the best cartoons ever made. I was hoping at one point it would become more of a compilation of different stories much like tales was. That would have been amazing

I was seriously hoping that the show would break the 200 ep mile mark when when I was watching the fist couple of seasons, but FF, I was jst praying thay they would go back to the previous seasons and BTTS came around, I thought it was so, so. I personally didnt care for the storyline of btts

I never got much of a chance to watch the show so I never gave much thought to how long it would last. I saw a few episodes here and there and enjoyed what I saw. Also every time I'd stumble across a bit of TMNT merchandise at Wal Mart or where ever I couldn't help but smile. It didn't matter that I hadn't seen much of the new show. I just liked seeing new Turtles stuff.

The show is aimed towards teens and young adults I know a lot of people who watched really enjoyed it. Even people who refused to watch the show or who simply chose not have gone back a watched and actaully enjoyed it

If I ever get the chance I'd love to watch the whole series. What I saw of it I loved.
