Thought this might be a neat thread. Let's try to count how many seperate dimensions there are in the TMNT Multiverse. I'll just throw up a couple to get started since I got work super early tomorrow, but let me know what else should go on the list and I'll update whenever possible.
Despite my personal opinion, I'm splitting up the movies, next mutation and TMNT just to avoid that argument. Feel free to get fired up about anything else, but I'm quite sick of that one in particular.
If anything's in the gray area, I'll more than likely just split them up just to see how high a number we can reach. Here goes:

Aren't the videogames based on those particular cartoons though, essentially taking place in that universe? I know the 2k3 games had slightly altered stories, but that's just because they were trying to cut down a season to fit into the timeframe of a game.
Likewise I don't really view the Playmates toys as their own universe, I just see whatever mutant or character there that didn't get an ep in the cartoon to be a potential character to show up, but we never saw them.
For all we know, perhaps the OT Turtles did have a battle with the likes of Pizzaface, Monty Moose, and Scratch, and the only info about that is on the card.
Also TMNT Hero Turtle comics....

The 80's games and the toys I'd count as their own universes. They introduce characters from multiple universes and tend to hodge-podge. The 4kids based games, I'd say fit that universe...they don't add any characters from other parts of the franchise.

Turtles Prime/ Eastman & Laird's TMNT (vol. 1 #1) from May 1984
Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue
Savage Dragon/ Highbrow Universe (the Turtles' crossovers with Dragon and Vanguard happened simultaneously in both their universe and Dragon's pre-Savage World universe)
Big Bang Comics Universe (same as Dragon's universe)
Whatever Universe "Shattered Image" happened in (FYI, Erik Larsen doesn't consider this miniseries part of the Savage Dragon canon, so I'd say it happened in its own little corner of the multiverse).
Matt Howarth's TMNT (vol. 1 #41 and the Haunted Pizza one-shot special)
Flaming Carrot Universe
Cerebus Universe (maybe TMNT vol. 1 #8 happened simultaneously in both the TMNT and Cerebus's respective universes?)
Power Rangers Universe (Maybe the same deal as TMNT and Savage Dragon's shared multiverse)

All of The Below
Turtles Prime/ Eastman & Laird's TMNT (vol. 1 #1) from May 1984
= Mirage
Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue
= Original (Fred Wolf) cartoon
Savage Dragon/ Highbrow Universe (the Turtles' crossovers with Dragon and Vanguard happened simultaneously in both their universe and Dragon's pre-Savage World universe)
= Mirage/Image
Big Bang Comics Universe (same as Dragon's universe)
= Mirage/Image
Whatever Universe "Shattered Image" happened in (FYI, Erik Larsen doesn't consider this miniseries part of the Savage Dragon canon, so I'd say it happened in its own little corner of the multiverse).
- Fair enough though it's so small I wouldn't even count it period
Matt Howarth's TMNT (vol. 1 #41 and the Haunted Pizza one-shot special)
- Ok
Flaming Carrot Universe
= 50% Mirage
Cerebus Universe (maybe TMNT vol. 1 #8 happened simultaneously in both the TMNT and Cerebus's respective universes?)
= Mirage
Power Rangers Universe (Maybe the same deal as TMNT and Savage Dragon's shared multiverse)
= Next Mutation
No reason to branch these out into their own, obviously it's easy to put them where they fit...

But certain character's origins deviate from the what they are in the show. Ace Duck, Slash (I think) and some others. Plus all those stupid turtle variants have a little blurb about them. Even if it's a retarded paragraph to help sell a toy, it's still fiction.

There was. While there might have been more than one instance,
I recall the characters Scul & Bean borrowed their design from admitting to being roaches and talking about their king, who is named Kafka (as in the novelist who wrote himself transforming into a cockroach).

Super Turtles can technically be argued as part of Fred Wolf. They used the exact same designs on the Neutrino leader people, and bothered to explain why Shredder looks different now (the turtles destroyed his normal outfit in battle). It's strange, but they did make an effort to connect them.
Mutant Turtles Gaiden though, that can pretty much be it's own thing. It seems like it could just be "episodes of FW in manga form", but it does the origin story itself, Irma has a fairly drastic re-design, the Technodrome...is not the Technodrome, there is no Krang, and hell the TMNT even have somewhat altered outfits. It's obviously originally based upon FW material, but does what it wants to without sticking to it very much.
I thought Super Turtles was the official Mirage reimagining of the TMNT as a superhero team. The OVA is pretty much a toy commercial for the Turtle Sentai (?) and Metal Mutants..

I'm talking about Super Turtles the manga, which is effectively the same universe as the OVA, at least. But from my work on the first volume of the manga thus far, I think it could mesh with FW. Of course, there's still two volumes to go, so maybe something totally out there will happen.

I sold the only one I've ever owned, and I remember it being whacky as all get out. #8 I think.
Here (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=17478)is an old thread about the Turtles multiverse but it was made a few years before Turtles Forever so its a bit outdates.
As far as videogames, I don't think they all deserve their own continuity, I think all the games based off the OT can be one continuity easily and works fine. While it was based on the OT it didn't take place on that universe but the storylines from each game are consistent enough to be able to be the same. The 2k3 games while based on the show are their own continuity technically, since the handheld games re-count the same thing but differently I think they are also a different continuity. And the Ubisoft games can be one continuity.
I also think at least the original toyline deserves its own universe, most toys had bios that were different from the actual show, tons of characters we never saw on the show plus the artwork featured stuff that we would never see in the OT. I don't think I'm alone that when I played with my TMNT toys I wasn't playing the OT, I was playing the awesome universe the toyline made me imagine, so I definitely think it deserves its own universe. Of course I won't mention the Movie/TNM/TMNT2007 since we don't want to open up that debate yet again. But yeah.
If a something is different enough it deserves its own universe however, if there's enough consistencies I don't see why various media can't be one universe. For example the Dreamwave comic never got to expand outside the 2k3 show and I think the one original story it made easily fits unlike the videogames so I think thats not a different universe but part of 2k3. Same with the Japanese OVAs and the Manga of the OT. We know the backstory of the Japanese OVAs is that its a similar universe to the OT, and we have the Japanese Manga that is similar to the OT but more "japanese" so I think the OT Manga are the adventures before the OVA, it fits nicely.

Power Rangers Universe (Maybe the same deal as TMNT and Savage Dragon's shared multiverse)
Ya know, you might be on to something here. The turtles have brand new voice actors and if you watch the episode they don't seem to inhabit the same universe.
The turtles refer to the Power Rangers as fake comic book characters, then the Power Rangers are excited to see that the Ninja Turtles are real (even refering to them as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and know them by name even though the turtles' existence insn't known to the public in NT: TNM.
I'll probably give it its own universe unless someone talks me out of it.
I'll talk you out of it.
First you have to remember that this isn't the first case in the Power Rangers Universe that they are thought of as fictional characters, people are usually shocked PRs exist and even in Ninja Storm they are mentioned to only be comic book characters, even though we know all PR's shows are in continuity and have constant team-ups with each other, its almost as if the news of giant monster attacks don't leave the city the current team is defending. Now they refer to them as TMNT however various people have seen the turtles, its not too far of a stretch that someone named them, after all the first movie (which TNM is based on but we won't get into that) has that deleted scenes is of April trying to publish a comic book of the turtles, so the explanation really isn't that out there that they would think they are "comic books" at the very least the TMNT have to be Urban Legends like Nessie or crocodiles in the Sewer of NY, its not like TNM turtles were too careful about not being seen... Not to mention it was a crossover of the two shows, and explicitly in continuity.
If you're going to make it a different universe then might as well make the Red Sky episodes of the OT a different series. And actually there's a lot of people who like to think that the OT Turtles in Turtles Forever are from a different earth similar to the OT but sillier, so they deserve their own universe more than the PRs universe.

What about their crossovers with Usagi's world? Wasn't there an issue (or two?) of Usagi Yojimbo where they showed up? Could that count as a separate continuity? Stuff like toys and videogames are just toys and videogames. Nothing else. The might be inspired from different universes and based on them, but not set in any universe or form an own.
However, when you play with the toys, you can make it set in which universe you want, or form a new one.

Probably the best way to speak on the videogames that I've seen.
I mostly know those videogames of the late 1980's-early 1990's.

A lot of this stuff doesn't count:
- Fanfiction/fanart etc. doesn't count as a universe.
- Failed pitches or concept arts that never got produced do not count as a universe. The failed 2000 CG show, the WB pitch, etc. do not count as universes. They were failed concept arts.
- The toyline isn't a "universe" as they're based on the cartoons and the few unique characters from it like the old Playmates mutants are just characters that don't exist in canon. Stuff like Farmer Mike and Clown Leo didn't happen in a story, they're just toys.
- The videogames I see as a loose adaption of the cartoons they were based on. Even Tournament Fighters can fit into the universe of the original cartoon or Archie rather than something new. Likewise I see the classic games on NES/SNES and the 4kids and Nick games just as "lost episodes" of the cartoons.
- Garbage like "Coming out of their Shells Tour" is not a universe, its just a crap music gimmick using the TMNT license.
- The TMNT anime OVA is debateable, as its clearly set in the OT universe...despite all the anime stuff in it.

I feel that the LEGO series should count since it provides established designs and like Playmates have a similar toy vibe. The series is still ongoing.
With the subject of unreleased TV series, the Mighty Mutanimals TV series. A series bible with characters does exist, so it should count for something.
Also include Dave Morris' TMNT books for the 7 to 10 year old audience that are their own thing, such as Buried Treasure and Sky High.

You can add TMNT Amazing Adventures.

you know what would be sweet, a diagram - with universe split offs.
More recently, Rise of the TMNT and Mutant Mayhem can be added to this list, much to the regrets of many people however. On the other hand, Urban Legends has more or less destroyed the idea of Image as its own continuity for good, and the Amazing Adventures continuity is largely forgotten. The Rise comic fits in the Rise TV show continuity. Meanwhile, Raphael Mutant Apocalypse may count as a continuity of its own, the TMNT shorts may each have their own continuities, and many obscure international continuities have been rediscovered. So I think it’s over 70, possibly over 80, continuities now.
I also think the first NES game counts as it’s own continuity more than Hyperstone Heist or maybe even Tournament Fighters do.
