It's probably been mentioned before, but why are the turtles called heroes in a half shell? They clearly have an entire shell. How did that make sense to the marketing people?

Food reference, as in "oysters on the half-shell". What good is a children's show without nonsensical puns, right? :P

I still love Howie Hardy's parody "Heroes in a half shell, not weasels in a cream sauce".

Yup. It has nothing to do with their physical carapace, plastron, or bridge. Nor is it suggesting they have half a shell.

It is simply a play on words in reference to the cuisine, oysters on the half shell

I guess some people really only consider the carapace when thinking of the shell. I dunno.

Slightly off topic, but what's with everyone misquoting the theme song all the time and saying "turtles in a half-shell"?

^ No idea. Haven't heard that one. Or maybe I did 10 years ago. I don't have any friends who talk tmnt with me these days. Except here and few dromers make that mistake

That's the casuals. The same people who think Raph is Ralph, Mikey is Mickey, and Shredder is Splinter.

Wouldn't go that far. My younger cousin flubbed it up the other day, but she's a child of the 2k3 era, so it's more understandable. Still just sounds so awkward to me though lol

I must confess....I use to think that "Ralph" were a valid short-name for Raphael....As "Mickey" for Mike (that sounds the same for me)... ( :toops: even I think I posted that wrong name in this forum!) Also I remeber myself re-editing for correct the name *gasp* *so embarrasing* *forgettable*... :toops::toops::toops::toops:

I can swear I never mislead Splinter (Astilla) with Shredder (Despedazador)!!!  !!!

Yeah, as a kid I never understood the "half shell" reference either. I'm sure there was many a kid that went to their parents/guardians asking "what's 'half shell' mean?"

Does anyone remember the FHE ad that messed up Shredder and Splinter?
