I dunno why really, I've been a staunch lover of the comics for years and I caught an episode here and there but knowing how the original series did not hold up as being interesting to an adult I guess I just never felt like it. I was bored the other day so decided to give it a shot and have watched eleven episodes so far.

WOW!

This craps all over the original. It's serious and funny and actually has continuity and characterisation. I can't believe I'm saying this, because he's always been my least favourite Turtle; but I think Mikey is now my favourite. He is genuinely funny, not just a dumb surfer type idiot.

The scene in the first episode where Splinter says "walk this way" and he mimics him actually made me laugh out loud, as did his girly squeal in "Garbageman".

I can't believe i didn't watch these sooner, I'm loving them now though...

First of all, yeah, it's a great show! But it's not really supposed to crap on the original, they're two totally different things, I personally don't think it's really fair to compare the two. Despite the great contributions of 4kids and everything, ya gotta give the continuity credit to Mirage, at least for the majority of it, as the show takes so much from those original comics.

I gotta say though, you're the first I've seen who actually likes 2k3's Mikey... I myself can hardly stand him (except for the rare moment when he's serious). It's nothing against his voice actor Wayne (who is great!) just I guess the writers...

I do enjoy the rest of the shows humor though.

Hold on. The "Mikey's my favorite!" bit will pass soon.

It might be my nostalgia goggles that shape my love of the OT, but then again I do still enjoy it as an adult, mainly for the humor. If I want a more action oriented TMNT series, I watch the 2k3 series, but i found when I marathoned the 2 series earlier this year, I had an easier time watching the FW series, I could watch more episodes before i needed a break, where the 4kids show took more out of me, I guess.

You think that the beginning of the series is good? The show hadn't even gotten up to speed yet. The first couple of seasons are good, but seasons three through five are some of the best seasons I've ever seen from an action cartoon. You're in for a real treat.

Oh, and give the later couple of seasons a fair chance. They're a step down from the first five seasons, but they're not too bad.

In the first season, Mike was my second favorite turtle. ^_^ After season two, he got a wee bit more irritating. :ohwell: But, he doesn't get unbearable until season six.

Mikey really was a great character in the first season and a half. Unfortunately... he was still around by Season 3... and beyond.

Yeah, for all our attempts to give "fair and balanced" commentaries on the various aspects of the TMNT multi-verse, we are so totally biased toward the OT! :-P

Well we have done more commentaries on FW episodes...;)

4kids Michaelangelo was excellent at the start of the show, aside from his girly scream.

I can't pinpoint where it was exactly that 4kids Mike started to become annoying, it might have been somewhere after he won the Battle Nexus, but it was kicked into overdrive during Fast Forward and Back to the Sewers.

I was blown away initially and I think it still holds up. TMNT 2K3, Justice League, Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM, and Masters of the Universe (both old & new) are my all-time favorite animated shows.

I missed a lot of the later seasons, sadly, and until they release DVDs over here or I get 'em from overseas I don't think I'll have seen the entire series, which pisses me off to no end. First season was gold, though.

Yeah, Mikey makes me laugh alot also. I like the "April's Artifact" episode when the Turtles and April were going against the queen hornet. Don warns everyone and says something like, "watch out it's the queen hornet!" Mikey says, "I don't care if it's Queen Latifah, we're leaving this place!":tlol:

Yeah, I'd put the turning point somewhere around the Battle Nexus, as well. Winning that tournament was the worst thing that ever happened to Mikey's career.

Especially since he never shut up about it...

Though the season 4 episode Grudge Match, where he had to defend his title was a decent Mikey moment.

Let me know when you get to "The Golden Puck". That to me was one of the funniest episodes ever!

Of the first 5 seasons, the worst episode is probably "Junklantis."

I actually liked the first Garbageman episode, but the second one was really terrible. It was really, really bad.

I found April's Artifact to be more intolerable. The musical montage gave it that extra push.

Just watched "The Shedder Strikes Back (Part 1)" - wow! :o That was like watching a movie. The fight scenes were brilliant, story telling with no dialogue perfectly complimented by the animation and the sound effects of the weather.

The Shredder Strikes Back was, in my opinion, the best that the first season offered. I still remember being on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened. Growing up, Raphael has always been my favorite turtle. But watching TSSB is what made me a fan of Leonardo, probably about as much as I'm a fan of Raphael.

Perhaps the best and last great Mikey moment in the series.

My first thought was... "Phil Collins should sue them." My second thought was... "nah, he wouldn't bother to associate himself with that shameless rip-off." :-)

The Shredder Strikes Back was, in my opinion, the best that the first season offered.

I dare say it was the best the entire series had to offer. And the series had a lot of strong moments.

That, and Touch and Go. He was pretty cool in both eps

Yeah but hell, anyone seems cool in comparison to them...

bite your tongue! I thought mr touch and mr go were fun villains. Nevermind we never got any backstory or compelling motivation (besides money:D)

Anyway, I liked how Mike "grew up" in those eps and actually used his mind

I dunno, maybe it was the cheesey accents that threw me off.

The last episode of season five was the best! Everyone put their resources together and destroyed The True Shredder. After that, the series went wacky! Season five was the last season for me.:trazz:

I hadn't really watched the 2k3 series since it aired when I was 13 so I only had memories of some episodes and there were a lot I'd never seen so I decided to marathon it over the last two weeks. I'm a little more than halfway through season four (And I watched season five several times) and I really don't see what's so bad about Mikey. I guess it just doesn't bug me that much

Glad to see you're enjoying it Dinobot. 2k3 is easily one of the best cartoons of the last decade. And it only gets better as it goes on. The first 5 seasons are nothing short of animated bliss. Even FF and BTTS have their great moments too.

This is a show I'll always do a rewatch of every 1-2 years or so.

I've seen the original cartoon countless times, even before the DVDs, but this one deserves numerous watches too.

The Nick series has big shoes to fill. I hope it will be just as entertaining as the two past series.

Season 3 is the best.
