I've watched some clips of some Russian episodes and I want to tell, which foreign VAs are the best in terms of portraying the various characters, specifically to the English counterparts? It stinks as in the credits for many of these they still show the English VAs. I hear their Shredders sound a lot like the Jim Cummings version. This can be quite a good topic to show which country had the best voiceovers, and in some cases if it is better than the English version. The best way to compare is to have two different video players open with the same episode side by side. Thoughts?

I grew up with the original cartoon in germany and this show remains special to me to this day as I still prefer the german synchro of it to the original...I found it to be very exciting and entertaining to hear the original audio version of movies and shows I grew to like, but the german voice cast of this show is so terrific that it is still so much more of a pleasure to me to watch it in german...also the opening and closing song by frank zander are special...I didn't understand at first when I found out that most people who grew up with the english audio track of the show absolutely favoured the ot's intro song, it still isn't zander's;)...
the voices of the characters are all special, leonardo had the strangest to my ears, but I liked that a lot, it was a voice you wouldn't hear anywhere else....raph had johny depp's synchro who at that time was known for 21 jumpstreet and mike had the synchro of the cooking smurf, way too cool!!!;)I love his voice the most as it sounds deffinately like an adult's voice....donny had a nice voice, too and they even gave him a 'nerdy' way to talk, he would often repeat parts of a sentence at the end of it in a restructured kinda arrangement....that is cool...shredder's voice always really sounded like spoken through metal to me which was a cool effect...
still have to laugh about krang's way to insult shredder everytime;)fitting voice, but different from the english one...

We had a thread awhile back that mentioned the Spanish and German voice actors here:
http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=31515
Here I'll post the French voices.
Leonardo: Loic Baugin (S1-4), Michel Tugot-Doris (S5-6), Marc Lesser (alterante S1-4, S7-10)
Raphael: Vincent Ropion (S1-4), Thierry Bourdon and Eric Aubrahn were Season 1-4 alternates; Patrice Baudrier (S5-6), Bruno Raina (S7-10)
Michelangelo: Alain Flick (S1-4), Bernard Demory (S5-6), Seasons 7-10 unkown
Donatello: Eric Aubrahn (S1-4), Denis Laustriat (S1-4 alternate), Bernard Bollet (S1-4 alternate, S5-6), Franck Capillery (S7-10)
Splinter: Philippe Ogouz (S1-4), Jean-Paul Coquelin (S5-6), Seasons 7-10 unkown
April: Laurence Crouzet (S1-4, 7-10), Laurence Dourlens (S5-6)
Irma: Virginie Ogouz (S2-4), Francoise Blanchard (S5-6), Sophie Arthuys (S7-8)
Vernon: Philippe Ogouz (S1-4), Oliver Hemon (S5-6), Michel Muller (S7-8)
Burne: Serge Lhorca: (S1-4), Seasons 5-8 unknown
Casey Jones: Philippe Ogouz (S3-4), Jean-Paul Coquelin (S5-6)
Baxter Stockman: Serge Lhorca, Philippe Ohouz (alternate)
Shredder: Daniel Russo (S1-4), Jean-Paul Coquelin (S5-6), Xavier Fagnon (S7-10)
Krang: Philippe Ogouz (S1-4), Patrice Baudrier (S5-6), Roger Crouzet (S7-10)
Bebop: Serge Lhorca (S1-4), Seasons 5-8 unkown
Rocksteady: Alain Flick (S1-4), Oliver Hemon (S5-6), Michel Muller (S7-8)
In addition, Emmanuel Curtil and Olivier Destrez did additional voices/alternates for seasons 1-4.
As you can see, NO CHARACTER had the same voice actor for the entire run for the French version! The closest was April, whose original voice returned in Season 7. I wonder if anybody knows any French people who complained of so many alternate voices; it really shows how fortunate the English cast remained intact for most of the run.
Also, were these voices also used in French Canada?
Denmark's Danish dubbing for its VHS/DVDs had only THREE VA's (similar to how dubbing was done in the 1930s-40s in the US)!
You only had:
Martin Miehe-Renard: Leonardo, Donatello, Shredder, Splinter, Bebop, Burne Thompson
Timm Mehrens - Raphael, Michelangelo, Baxter Stockman, Vernon Fenwick, Rocksteady, Rottekongen
Karin Jagd - April O'neil, Krang, Zack, Irma, Neutrinos
Really, it can be clever to show that there was so much more than you think in terms of making TMNT a WORLDWIDE success, not just in English-speaking countries! It would be cool if ALL the Leonardos who voiced and drew him met in the same room some day for instance. I feel sorry for all these VAs as most didn't get credited and they really have done quite a job.

I was just watching the Spanish cut of Turtle Tracks, and noticed there were a few spots where the English voices cut in, notably we hear English Splinter saying "Michelangelo, Master of the Whirling Nunchucks". Also noted are the "Ninja Dry Cleans... Ninja Dentist", all said by the English cast. A bit strange hearing two different people voicing the same character in the same episode! Enter The Shredder however is 100% Spanish. Sure, the English title screen appears, but the episode name is voiced over in Spanish (similar to other foreign cuts). Also, I like the voice of the Spanish Shredder! He's perfectly cold and sinister and is always getting your attention.
Here is the Italian cast for the OT:
Leonardo: Luca Semeraro
Michelangelo: Davide Garbolino
Raphael (It's "Raffaello" in Italian BTW!): Diego Sabre
Donatello: Felice Invernici
Splinter: Sergio Romano
April: Roberta Federici
Irma: Roberta Gallina Laurenti
Vernon: Ivo De Palma
Burne: Augusto di Bono
Shredder: Marco Balzarotti
Bebop: Stefano Albertini
Rocksteady: Marco Pagani
Krang: Paolo Marchese
Baxter: Giorgio Melazzi (human), Flavio Arras (fly)
I like how here each VA has their own part unlike the English version.

For Soviet/Russia version, three different sets of VA's were used. One for seasons 1-3 (and again for seasons 8-9), a second for seasons 4-5 (the European vacation is part of this set as it was aired in Europe first) and a third set for seasons 6 and 7. Apparently season 10 was not shown in Russia as the popularity may have waned too much for broadcast. I'll divide the three as "Cast A", "Cast B", and "Cast C".
Cast A:
Leonardo, Donatello, Krang, Rocksteady: Alexander Bargman, Jan Tsapnik (alternate)
Raphael, Michelangelo, Shredder, Bebop: Nikolai Burov, Mikhail Chernyak (alternate)
Splinter: ???
April: Svetlana Sheichenko, Helen Schulman (alternate)
Cast B:
Leonardo, Splinter, Shredder: Viktor Petrov
Raphael, Bebop: Alexander Klyukvin, Andrew Yaroslavtsev (alternate)
