View Full Version : There were some CBS affiliates that pulled TMNT during the Red Sky era for local

I've read stuff online stating that some CBS affiliates during the red sky seasons either moved TMNT to a late night slot or axed the show altogether during this era. Some felt that it was "too violent and dark" for a Saturday morning show targeted at kids. This started as early as Season 8, where the Baltimore CBS affiliate at the time, WBAL-TV, instead broadcasted FOUR HOURS of local news! I was like at the time, "I thought we should see Channel 6 news reporting!" It did return in reruns in January when the CBS affiliate moved to WJZ, but it definately gave me a "What happened?" feeling when I finally saw the red sky episodes.
Meanwhile, other local CBS affiliates may have done other rescheduling/cancellations. Please post what you can recall.

Hmm, interesting. It aired in the Chicago, Illinois market where I'm near. And I loved watched the episodes every Saturday morning. It reminded me of being nine years old again. Waking up on Saturday mornings, having donuts, and watching TMNT. Ah, memories.

In my area, the local CBS affiliate decided to stop airing cartoons right before season 7, so I remember being unable to record those and had to wait until they aired on USA. For seasons 8-10, our CBS and FOX affiliates switched channels, and TMNT started airing again.

They never aired here in North Texas. I never even knew they had those seasons until about 5 months ago when I got back into my old turtles stuff.

I live in NY where seasons 8-10 all aired. Man, I must have been 11 or 12 at the time. :)
During S10, I had two CBS channels: one from Baton Rouge and the other from New Orleans (about twice as far from me). The B.R. station gave up on TMNT after S9, so I thought I was safe. I remember watching "BEGINNING OF THE END" (I think it was) the weekend before I left for my 10-day tour of France & Italy over the christmas holidays. When I got back, the N.O. CBS was gone, and I had no way to see the end of the series until I got this thing called the internet 5 years later and found those horrible-quality encodes. The wait was totally not worth it. :tgrumble: Even with Shredder & Krang making a return appearance!

I was in Chicago and never remember them showing TMNT anymore during the time they started airing Sonic the Hedgehog. I never saw that last pre-Red Sky season where Shredder had a new voice through most of the season.
