Peter hinted in the latest issue that the Mirage crew is going to redo #8 from the original series. Cerebus the Aardvark appeared in the book, and Peter can't reprint the original unless Cerebus gets cut out. Reason? Dave Sim (Cerebus creator) apparently has a policy of not signing contracts. So the book is being rewritten and redrawn, mainly so Peter can print Volume 1 TPB's. So... what do you guys think?

no firm plans yet but I think Peter wants to do it and the fans have certainly asked for them

I know Dave Sim has the no contract policy, but they were able to work around that for both the TPB from First Publishing and the Mirage published TPB. I would like to think they could work it out now, without changing anything.
But your theory is a good one .. I don't know why else they would be doing it.

Actually it's not my theory. That's from an e-mail from Dan Berger.

I wish they could print a new version of the old hardcover collecting #1-11. I so want to see that on my bookshelf...

Maybe we are seeing more of what Peter invisioned for the TMNT without Kevin....
Maybe it was Kevin's idea to incorporate Cerebus, and Peter just went along with it. Peter always did like using just their ideas in their stories.
Just a thought. Maybe just more De-Eastmanizing the franchise.

Yeah Peter also states that he will be changing the story around. It could be interesting to see how it pans out.

De-Eastmanizing? WTF? There has been no such thing. And don't even try to mention Venus DeMilo because Peter's dislike for that character has nothing to do with Kevin.

Allow me to ellaborate.
When I said "De-Eastmanizing" I'm referring to the fact that Eastman no longer has any rights to the TMNT. He sold them.
We all know the story of Venus and that was never mentioned.
My point was Kevin was always willing to go that extra mile, to add that extra twist. He was willing to take chances with new characters, new ideas and new possabilities.
Laird, at least to me, wants to take his time, play the whole game safe, and keep the characters closer to their original Design.
So in my term "De-Eastmanizing" I'm refferring to playing it safe. Removing all those chances taken. I'm not saying he's just taking out anything Eastman touched.

That still doesn't make any sense.

Yeah. Back then they wrote it together, now Laird does it alone. Of course it differs from what it used to be, but Laird isnt intentionally trying to "De-Eastmanizie" the TMNT. Thats whar I think.

God is gracious. You can buy several TPB's from the official site. There are seven original volumes, and they cover #1-29

Actually, I can see this remake being more of a tribute to Eastman since he helped out the first time around.
I kinda get the feeling this story will be told as a backflash in either Volume 4, or the new "Tale of the TMNT"

Nah, I think we get what you're saying. I just don't think it went down that way. Seems to me E&L are still cool.
But I know that "de-Eastanizing" is not in any case the MAIN reason (if at all) that Peter's doing the re-image, it's the Cerebus copyright.
