How do you think the 4Kids series will be remembered?

It's been off the air a couple years so how do you think the 4Kids series will be remembered? I sort of see it like Batman: The Animated Series. Like a darker version of what has come before.

Ummm... not really. That show was a critically acclaimed show, and quintessential Batman in my book. I love the 4kids show but there's a LOT of people who don't even know it exists.

Most people never knew the 4kids series existed. However if Nickelodeon airs the 4kids series in reruns like they apparently said they would, it'll get a bunch of new viewers who never saw it before.

It might seem odd, but the 4kids series might become more popular after it ended because it would be airing on reruns on Nick, rather than an obscure Saturday Morning block.

Oh man. I don't think it will be remembered at all as the OT is. I don't know. In fact, it was not as big as Batman: The Animated Series. A lot has been made for that show. I don't think we'll be seeing the 4Kids cast returning for future movies as the same characters.

I like to consider the 2k3 series to The Batman, rather than Batman: The Animated Series because of it's popularity. To me, Batman: The Animated Series falls with the OT based on popularity. They were big shows in the 90's. No one seems to be talking about The Batman today. So I think the 2k3 series falls with that, too.

Besides, I think Batman: Brave and the Bold is doing better than the Batman. I'm not sure. Hopefully, the Nick 2k12 show will be just like that one.

I'm only doing this because of the decades and fame. Not so much by dark tones and lots of action. The Batman did have darkness and action back when it was on.

I think Batman: The Animated Series has become a classic as did the OT TMNT series. So I can't say it falls with 2k3's longevity. Plus, I enjoyed Batman. 2k3 turtles, not so much. I still hold a grudge for writers putting Leonardo in the stupidest situations. Sorry, that's just me.:tsmile:

As the truest TMNT series ever told. I know a lot people missed out on 2K3 but that doesn't mean it was a failure i think it was a success, i believe it was 4Kids highest rated show? I don't have proof but i think remember reading something about that.

Couldn't agree more. Even though I'm not a fan of the Shredder being an utrom, it would be tough for me to claim that it's not the best version thus far.

Even if 2k3 never reaches the popularity of the 87 series, I think those that knew of it will always remember it well. There will always be fans who think the original comics > all and to them the 03 series is like a love letter to fans.

Personally I enjoyed about 1/3 of the series. There were some really great episodes in there, but a lot of not-so-great ones too (much like the original series). I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the penultimate turtles experience to me that it was for others.

The fact he was an Utrom aside, I loved that Shredder was made out to be an Omega-Level Threat in the 2K3 show.

I think the 4kids tmnt would have given the OT a run for its money if they were aired on a major network, but it sadly was not.

I personally will remember it as my favorite show and a second chance to see TMNT after missing most of the OT. (bc I was so young)

Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation

Because 4kids never hit "super fad" status like the OT did, it is one that I find a "grower", much like newer versions of popular franchises such as Star Trek: The Next Generation and the G2 versions of other franchises as well. In fact, "G2" may be a popular way to describe the 4kids series with "G1" a good name for the old toon, but it will be more remembered fondly by the true fans, as most casual fans will prefer the OT (sans red sky) and the first couple movies. Plus, since the show aired only 6.5 years after the final OT episode (subtract a year if you include Next Mutation, the other show that aired that the poster below is asking), that was hardly enough time for "real nostalgia" when the show aired, so it sort of went under the radar. It usually takes about 20 years (hence the 20 year-nostalgia rule) after a fad/franchise peaks in popularity before fans can TRULY get nostalgic for the old to return, and that benchmark has definately passed now. Most OT fans were in college/starting their full time jobs when 2K3 aired. The OT is to the Beatles as was 2K3 is to Pink Floyd; the former serving both Pop and Rock, the later just rock.

But on another note I really liked the 4kids tmnt. Once im done getting all the ot dvd's ( need two more) I am going to start collection the 4kids show on dvd.

It definately did not have an impact on popular culture like that of the OT, but I believe the 4kids version of TMNT will be remembered by fans as a more serious approach to the material, one that had a good amount of success in it's own right (Toy line, video games, a ton of DVD releases), and ultimately kept the brand viable.

I was swept into tmnt hype in second grade by the waves it made in popular culture. It goes with out saying I was (am) a HUGE fan of the original.


However, when it comes to sitting down on a saturday afternoon with a glass of tea and nothing to watch on TV, I'll put in my 2k3 dvds WAY before my OT dvds.

It's more committed to the storytelling aspect, as opposed to random episode lined up next to random episode. I loved the first five eps of the OT for that reason, but then it sort of fell apart after the eye of sarnoth story.

I don't think it has to do with the fact that the 4kids series was more serious, I think it's just because I find myself able to take it a little more seriously.

Then I happened to catch a special they had one about the turtles going back in time to present day, and that whole mini series within the main cartoon was pretty badass, they had to deal with alternate versions of their villians from alternate universes. Thats the only thing I will remember the 4kids TMNT for.
