View Full Version : Speculation about Nick re-releasing DVD's

I noticed today on the official Ninja Turtles website that the 4kids cartoon has been completely removed from the DVD section.
The only thing I think this could mean is that Nick doesn't want people tracking down all the episodes because they want to put them out in their own boxed-sets.
Any thoughts?

Maybe... maybe...
Or they're very slowly deleting the NinjaTurtles site. First they deleted the home page last year. Just now, they slowly highlighted the TMNT DVD section and slowly hit the delete button...
But here's for hoping they are considering giving the series a release.

I would hope they'd either release it or give it to someone like Shout! Factory. I'd love to ditch my five-episodes-per-disc releases for season three and the first half of four. Ridiculous the way they released that crap. (Anybody know how I can rip the episodes and then burn them to my own discs without degrading the quality? That would make watching the episodes in succession much easier.)

I bet Nick wants the original cartoon too but Lionsgate won't give it to them. LOL.
As for the 4kids series, they should do DVDs eventually. And I imagine the uncut version of Turtles Forever needs to come out here.
As said, Shout! Factory is releasing a lot of Nick's older shows on DVD.

I wouldn't hold my breath, CyberCubed. Something tells me Nickelodeon is going to put the 4Kids series on the shelf for a few years so people will focus on the new show they're producing.

They paid $10 million to 4kids to purchase the show from them. How are they going to make back their $10 million?

I'm not saying the series is going to be locked away in a vault never to see the light of day again! I'm just saying the company is probably going to wait a few years until all the kids who grew up with the 4Kids series have forgotten about it and then they'll bring it back.
They paid $10 million to 4kids to purchase the show from them. How are they going to make back their $10 million?
By using characters exclusive to the 4KIDS series in their own show and selling DVDs of the 4KIDS series after ratings start to slide on their own show.

They paid $60 million for the whole thing $10 million of which went to 4Kids, not just because of the 2K3 show, but because 4Kids was also Mirage's licensing agent. Nickelodeon doesn't need to make $10 million specifically on the 2K3 show. The investment was for everything, and all current and future residuals pay back that $60 million investment and expand into further profit. The current licensing plan, next year's launch of the toys and CGI show, and the eventual movie will more than make up that investment.

that works lol
Nick also has the license to re-run 700 in continuity episodes of Power Rangers and chooses not to. I think its pretty clear that they don't want anything to do at the moment with 2k3, after all it wasn't a huge hit and it's no longer a new show. The best we can hope is some company like Shout! gets the license for DVDs or Nick dumps it on Netflix/itunes.
They also probably don't want to confuse people with TMNT on Nick that is not the upcoming version and also it takes a bit of the spotlight of the new show if the turtles aren't "back" since the old show is still technically on.

I find it nightmere to figure out wich dvds of NT to purse so I think they need to re do this in order and releease in my books 7 complete sesson sets, unlike OT the DVD handling of that is much clearer.
Or maybe in the mean time maybe some one should produce for this forum idiot prove buying guide.

I used this Wikipedia list to make sense of things:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_%282003%29_DVD_releas es
I printed out what episodes and seasons/episode numbers are on each disc and placed it in the Mikey's Christmas special DVD, heh. That way it doesn't take long to figure out which disc to pop in next.

As for Nick wanting people to "forget" about the 4kids series so people don't think the Nick series is a continuation, that's ridiculous.
That would be like IDW not collecting the Mirage series because they don't want people to think their series is a continuation. People aren't stupid, they know about different continuities.
My guess is they're waiting till the Nick series is closer to airing, then they'll start airing reruns of the 4kids series at some point and start releasing DVDs.

That sounds good to me
I am really hoping that this series gets re-released on DVD. I didn't get a chance to take advantage of them when they were released individually, although I don't like how small the seasons were chopped into. But I always wanted to pick up the Seasons parts 1 & 2, yet I see those are done too. I am praying that if/when this series is re-released a Complete Series box set would be ideal. And as mentioned I do hope shout! gets a hold of this.

While I don't see a re-release coming any time soon. If the day ever does come when this series is re-released on dvd, I wonder how exactly the seasons will be released. I could see this series getting released in 3 - 6 six disk sets. The first six disk set would feature the first two seasons. The second six disk set would feature seasons three and four. And finally the third release would feature the 12 episodes from season five, the Fast Forward season, and the Back To The Sewer Season. Just a thought.

its not unlikely. Shout Factory releases old shows on DVD and many old Nick shows as well.
Its not out of the question to see Shout Factory release proper TMNT 2k3 DVDs.

Agreed. I have noticed Shout putting out some old Nick shows so hopefully they can do this for TMNT 2k3. If they at least gave us some word that they will be doing it, that'll be enough to get me excited.

How does Shout release stuff? Season sets? Complete series? I think the only Shout released show I have is the Weird Al Show, and that's only a 13 episode series...so...

The release them as season sets. Usually they will combine seasons in one set if the seaons are short. Beast Wars:Transformers has 3 seasons and the first set is a 4 disc set of season 1. Second set is 4 discs with season 2 and 3.

Perhaps we should send an e-mail rally to Shout about TMNT DVDs.

Shout did say way back that they aren't interested in licensing the 4Kids TMNT Show - and as far as I heard, every show they say they won't release, they simply won't release.
Problem with the 4kids Show is that there were far to many DVDs in the Past, this was also the Problem, why the new half-season Sets from Funimation weren't selling as good as they were supposed to. (I heard that a few years ago from someone who worked at Funimation at the time the final (S2P2) was released.
If they were selling good it's pretty obviuos that Funimation would have released Season 3, 4 & 6 and maybe even Turtles Forever - but they disn't so...

What Nick could do is release TMNT on Netflix Streaming. That's what they do for most of their shows.

Now I realize that this quote is more than two years old, but... "I should note that Shout! Factory is NOT in talks with 4Kids or anyone else at this time. We are not pursuing the Turtles right now.

No longer need to deal with 4kids tho, so that's a game-changer. :)

That was two years ago, when 4kids still owned the show.
I fail to see how that quote is still valid. Now that Nick owns the 2k3 show, its a whole different story.

True, but without evidence that Shout is interested in the show, I see no reason to conclude that they currectly are.

Well the only basis we have to go on is Shout releases a lot of old Nick shows. They might do TMNT.
Someone should try to get a response from them so we can have an up to date view on things.

No. They own the 2003 show. Lionsgate owns the 1987 show.

Actually I think all they own is distribution rights. Fred Wolf probably still retains the other rights or some other company.

Since Lionsgate has released 90% of the original cartoon on DVD and we'll probably get Season 10 next year right before the Nick show starts, its not too concerning there.
The 4kids series might all be on DVD but its all in such a messed up order with all these multiple releases that we might as well get a proper set of it all. Not to mention Turtles Forever still isn't uncut in the U.S.

The thing about 4Kids is that Seasons 1, 2, and part of 3 are released with only 4-5 episodes, requiring a lot more space. This may create some confusion among buyers expecting the 1987 series, so this complicate matters further. I've season Season 4 as a boxset, but is hard to find. And since Seasons 5-7 weren't as good as the others, caution will be advised for releasing these, especially since so many have watched these episodes for free on Youtube and other places and was geared toward a younger generation who doesn't like DVDs as much as people my age. In the end, confusion and lack of demand and nostalgia compared to the previous series lean me against Nick releasing DVDs.
But I would support streaming services such as Netflix/iTunes/etc, especially if they can make Nick force to remove all the videos off of Youtube and force customers to buy them.

I personally think that Nick is going to air the new show and maybe several months into the thing when it isn't brand new anymore they will release 2k3 on DVD. But that is my theory, I hope they release the darn thing sooner.
All we can do it cross our fingers and wait..or grab the torches and pitch forks and head to the Nick headquarters!:twink:
