Why would the first issue get a 3rd printing if the second printing isn't even out yet?

Wow, I guess issue #2 sold better than I expected!

The book is undoubtedly already at the printers and the orders for it have exceeded the number of copies being printed.

That means nothing. The sales of this book is mainly from people who never read a turtle comic before. It's selling be because it's promoted and advertised.

We TMNT fans likely only make up a quarter of it's sales.

Good, welcome to the fold new fans.

Are you being serious right now?

Even better. You do realize that is a VERY good thing, right?

I would like to know where you're getting this information from. How do you know what comics these people have read before?

Vol 4 and Tales were kept barely afloat by TMNT fans. The poor sales were because WE were the only ones buying the books.

It's fairly obvious all these IDW sales are coming from people who either gave up on TMNT a long time ago and checked it out, or new fans.

And that would be a good thing. Pretty much exactly what IDW was hoping for I bet.

Also how easy was it to get those TMNT comics? I'm not sure if my local store carried them (Heck I didn't visit my local store until the series was canceled.) but I'm sure there were plenty of shops that just didn't carry TMNT then. Now you can get the freakin' book at Hastings.

What exactly IS Hastings, anyway?

It's a store that sells books and movies...they also rent movies and buy and resale old books.

...and because they weren't really visible in much of the marketplace, and because they largely weren't available in much of the marketplace, and because Mirage didn't have the staff or resources to promote or distribute their books to the degree that IDW does, and a whole host of other reasons.

Look, many things are likely driving these sales. New fans are no doubt a part of it; as are former fans who have returned to the property. There are probably also a lot of other factors at play. For instance...
• The hype surrounding the sale of the TMNT and the subsequent whetted appetite of the market wondering what was going to happen to the turtles next.
• Increased visibility in the marketplace gained by the property going through a "front-of-the-catalog" publisher who promotes the hell out of the book
• Normal new-series launch hype
• New Nickelodeon movie/series/whatever pre-hype
• Incentive variants

And so on. Some or all of these things (as well as other factors) may be helping sales. The point I was making was -- we're speculating -- we don't actually have access to data demonstrating what exact combination is the key to the book's success. We can make some fair assumptions, but we're still speculating.

Seems like you forget that, CyberCubed. Don't make the mistake of thinking your speculations and assumptions are actual facts.

Do you have any proof of that? I dont believei it i am sure most poeple who buy them has been fans of tmnt sincet he 87 cartton. But since you mentioned it I have to tell something VERY GOOD THAT I THINK WE MUST CELEBRATE IT! There is a new tmnt fan now! Few days ago i conviced my girlfriend to start watching tmnt!! She saw few episodes of 20003 and 1987 carttoon and she like it! She has never been a tmnt fan before and she didnt new anything about tmnt until i talked her about them. Now she has started watching tmnt and while she is not fan of it yet she has told me that she likes.

So yes +1 to the tmnt fans thanks to me!!!:D:D:D

Another factor that may help the comics are that most of the core fans now are all out of college and have lots of debt paid off with some good full-time jobs, giving them more money to purchase items. Still, it almost feels like 1986 again, with the current new TMNT fairly underground in the media but with some good praise for those who have encountered it. The issue #1 first printing however I wouldn't hold on to since some have bought several copies and we'll likely see a supply of higher graded comics for quite some time. It simply won't have the nostalgia factor as much as the earlier series for quite some time. This is encouraging news from an industry that in recent years has taken a slide. It would be cool if we saw some commercials about the comics in the new Nick series; something that was missing in the earlier series.

It's great reading that the New Comic Series is running so good in America, sadly in Germany the only possible Publisher who releases IDW Stuff has said that they won't aquire the license to the new TMNT Series because the TMNT are stuff for small Childs.

And when told that the Comics are griddier:
"Even worse, so Parents would send Hate Mail why we release so brutal Comics"
