Ok so I have a question. I have some candy molds that I'd rather not ruin by using but would love to make candy with them. So my question is. Is there a way or something I could use to make replicate molds from my originals?

You could make a positive cast using something (plaster or resin), then make a negative mould from that cast that you can use to make candy. It'd be a fairly complicated & expensive method, and you might end up damaging the original moulds anyway though...

Simple, just go to hobby lobby or online and look for an easy casting resin, even cheap stuff should work fine like "AMAZING" casting resin. Mix the stuff pour it into the Candy Mold, then after about 5 minutes pop it out. Then you just make another mold using what you just cast.

The casting resin wouldn't hurt the mold? The mold I wanna copy is a prototype mold so the plastic is really thin. There actually filled with something to show what the finale product would look like. so I dont want to put that out to poor something in the molds but maybe I could make something poor the resin in and use my mold to stamp into the resin? I dont i will have to look in to the resin.

Don't you need some kind of "release agent" stuff to put into the original mold?

I know what you're talking about - I have a kind of thin polystyrene mold that I'm worried would be ruined if I put any kind of plaster or resin or even modeling clay. What about putting the release agent, then pouring in liquid latex and letting it dry? Then you could mix wet plaster in a thin tray and just kind of lay the latex mold into it and form your negative.

But I don't think you'd want to use plaster as a candy mold. So I'm stumped.

Might help if we could see the mold, but it seems most of the things that would make a copy would be just as hazardous as just making the candy.

You can try:

1. put inside one of them a thin piece of breakfast film
2. put inside plasticine
3. tak out plasticine and You should have a mold that you can then put in to the warm resin

should work...in theory...but it is safer to try this on some other not so valuable stuff :D
