Probably will get the TPB as well.
In addition to Usagi Yojimbo, IDW TMNT will be the 2nd comic i buy both the issues and trades since some time. ( for a current, new run that is )

IDW really knows how to milk a fanbase.

I really want to avoid questioning a project before it's time, but to release a first tpb with only 104 pages length seems a bid odd....maybe thaht bonus content is intriguing..

I notice this is a paperback, this might be how the rest of the Mirage comics are collected.

This is a comic book. It has to be released as a trade sometime.

It isn't milking. It is how a comic book publisher works.

26*4 = 104

22*4 = 88

Perhaps the additional content is a gallery of all of the variant covers?

Ha! 16 pages wouldn't be enough!

It is milking. Five + variant cover per issue = milking.

That is one example of milking.

A trade paperback is not.

That's irrelevant. The TPB is almost standard in the industry. It will likely include all of those variant covers in some fashion.

I'll buy it only because it makes it easier to go back and read arcs without digging out single issues.

Yeah, trade paperback collections are an industry standard and an alternative to floppies for those who prefer them.

Likewise, variants are just an option, allowing consumers to choose which cover they like best; giving them variety.

You don't need to purchase every variant to get a complete comic, nor do you need to buy the trade paperback if you've already bought the floppies in order to get the whole story.

It isn't milking, it's variety.

Now, IDW *has* done milking in their trade paperback releases before, which I find repulsive. For the Transformers Animated: The Arrival miniseries, they released the first five issues individually, solicited the sixth and final installment, then changed their mind at the last minute, making it an exclusive for the trade paperback collection. So if you wanted the concluding chapter to the miniseries, you HAD to buy the trade paperback collection (and basically issues 1-5 a second time) in order to get the ending.

That was a positively scummy business practice and the last straw in making me drop my IDW Transformers subs. THAT is what milking between floppies and trades is.

Thankfully, it is not the norm with IDW and that's the only example of them pulling that crap I can think of (Slave Labor Graphics did a similar tactic with their Gargoyles comics, though).

That WASN'T SLG's fault. That was Disney pulling crap!! Disney was SLOOOOW to do the edits and all sorts of crap. SLG got tired of it so they broke their ties with Disney which forced the cancelation of the book. So don't blame SLG, blame Disney. Greg Weisman had those issues ready so for the sake of us fans he put the rest of the chapter in with the TPB of the issues that were released before the book's cancelation.

TPBs and HCs are not milking. they are standards in today's industry.
I mostly buy collected editions for nearly all my comics since some years.
There are just a few comics left that i HAVE TO read as soon as each issue is released, like Usagi Yojimbo, Spawn, Savage Dragon. So i buy the issues of them too.
To be honest when IDW turtles were first announced i thought i would buy the TPBs only cause IDW really releases them so quick. But then thought again and said. Crap... this is Turtles Dude. you have to read them in issue form.
for me after reading a certain issue and that one going into the comic box, it rarely sees light again. so TPBs and HCs are the best way to read them again and again on cold winter nights.
Also they look handsome on shelves. I do not like the scene of comic boxes much.

As long as they are eventually collected, that's fine with me.

Depending on what the bonus material looks like, I might pick this up. TMNT is one of those franchises I will double dip for in order to support the series.

You'd think people would be happy the new comics are being collected right from the beginning along with the old Mirage stuff. I was actually wondering when they'd start collecting their own comics.

Only collecting 4 issues is a bit disappointing though, but that's all there is so far. I assume they stop there because its the first arc.

Seeings how we don't get the single issues here in Blighty, this is good news to me as it means i dont have to pay shipping costs for every issue, although it does mean i have to wait until it is released :( im so goddamn impatient!

Great job not having all the facts. IDW didn't "change their mind," Hasbro did. Hasbro saw the issue would've been printed months before the Safeguard pack which with the exact same comic was release. The 2-pack promised on package that the comic was exclusive to the set. Bottomline: It was Hasbro's doing, not IDW's.

Not milking? Really? It's $17.99 for a 4 issues! Marvel's Get Mystique, for example, was $10.99 for the same number of issues (lacking extras but still). I'd rather them wait another 4-5 months and make it 7-8 ishs per book or at least add Raphael solo... though I suppose that'll be another trade.
