If it took but one mortal Oroku Saki to slay the Tengu Shredder, why did the Turtles have to manifest into dragons in order to defeat the resurrected demon?

Because that one Saki was the most bad ass person alive and joined with the power of a Tengu demon he was essentially unstoppable. Plus the turtles were inexperienced and the Ninja Tribunal even with experience just barely beat him the first time.

Why does it bother you that the TMNT turned into dragons? I thought that was totally awesome! It's far better than turning into gerbils or hot air balloons!

That will always be a source of discontent for me.

At least when Raph became a frog during Superquest in BTTS, he was still Raph. When they became dragons, that's all they were.

No way even when they where dragons. They where still themselfs.

Yes, but I didn't feel their personalities shone through, which is what I love about the Turtles.

I thought the characters physical Features reflected the turtles persona
Such as raph dragon looking like a compact tank showing his toughness.
Leo looking the most like a traditional dragon reflecting his nobility as a leader ect...

The Turtles became Dragons, as the Tribunal did, because they are their spiritual descendants. The series was very prominent in showing the previous generation of this ninjutsu lineage as being parental figures to the next. Essentially we have Tribunal -> Ancient One -> Yoshi -> Splinter -> Turtles, kind of making the Tribunal the great-great-grandparents of the Turtles. Even though they were pretty much dicks to everyone, they most likely were surrogate parents to Ancient One (we never got to see their interactions when he was under their tutelage). I guess it's kind of the same reason Splinter manifested Yoshi's spirit in the same storyline?

Man, that's one messed up family.

I for one think the dragon idea is a little silly. Why didn't the just use their newfound abilities? Mikey's was speed. I can't remember the rest.

Because speed alone wouldn't have helped against the Tengu Shredder. He was too powerful for just that.

I wasn't a huge fan of the whole dragon concept. I was ok with it since it wasn't something that was an ongoing ability for the turtles. If the turtles would've still had the abilities from season five in the Fast Forward and Back To The Sewer seasons, it really would've brought the show down for me.

well they didn't keep the morphing power and it was the medallions that made it possible to turn into dragons. It was an one-time instance to defeat a demon

I dont think so I thought the madalion simply helped them manifest the energy, I thought they could do it on there own with more training, I jst thought the madallions were jst a short cut.

Just throwing this out there: If the medallions were needed for the transformation, then what were they gonna in the Shredder War...oh crap were they gonna pull a Future Shark and bring the season 5 Turtles to the future, with medallions in hand to stop the demon Shredder...again?

That's the one thing that got me about the "Lost Season" was that after conquering the Super-Duper-Powerful-Evil-Mega-Demon-Shredder what could the Turtles face that was even in the same ballpark in terms of threat to the world.

Then again...Ch'rell planned, in a previous season, to lay waste to multiple planets, where as Demon Shredder just wanted to destroy/rule the Earth. So...yeah. Don't you just love it when you punch holes in your own point...:D

Yea I don't think the medallions where the source of the dragon power. I think it was more of a training tool to help them bring out there new powers until the learned to do so on there own.

Woah woah woah. Hold on now. I think the medallions were definitely 100% the reason for the turtles enhanced powers/their ability to morph into dragons. If not, why didn't the turtles ever use those powers after the medallions were gone?

Well, they were and they weren't. The idea is that without the medallions, it would take decades of training before the acolytes would be able to do all the super-moves they displayed in that season. The medallions allowed them to speed up the process, but only as long as they were wearing them.

I always hated that useless Dragon Battle scene...
