The theme song/type of background music you would like to hear

First off, we've had a thread about if we got a theme song that wouldn't stuff a while back:

Sure, we still have no idea what the soundtrack would be like, but I also want to address the background music in addition to the theme song ideas. For all you musical enthusiasts, this is your thread. I am a huge fan of the OT's background music that I have posted 10 video tracks of it on Youtube, and 4kids had some decent themes (though not as memorable). But the musical landscape keeps changing, and part of the reason that I hope drives the new show is the music/sound effects. Of course we're waiting for the new theme song, which can drive some of the background music for the show. There are obvious tones such as location, character and plot situation (enemy attack, Turtle attack, resolution themes) that help deliver a good soundtrack, provided that the musical compisition fits the plot/animation/character styles. Any suggestions on how the proper soundtrack can be delivered?

Hard to make that decision without seeing a few animation sequences first, to get a feel for it... But I guess hip-hop instrumentals.
The old kind, mind you. East coast early 90's boom bap kinda stuff, with the mood set by the samples.

I believe it was said that the music in the pilot was by Handsome Boy Modeling School and DJ Shadow.

If the music in the finished show is close to the style of them, I'll be quite happy.

Just NO rap; jeez, how did the Turtles get associated with rap when they came from metal roots?!

Not dissing the genre, but it is bewildering.

However, another way is to create a theme that features Japanese flutes, violins, DJ record scratching, and rock guitars to represent each turtle.

Still, I think I came up with a song:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! (Repeat 2 more times)
Turtle power! Cowabunga!

New York City, dark and gritty! Always has thugs sprawling the streets at night.

Until, one day, a green ooze fell on four baby turtles giving them the power to fight.

Now they've grown up to be invisible, never to be seen around.
There all strong willed and intelligent, and they kick butt throught the town.

Raphael's cool but rude! A hothead who throws a fit.
Michelangelo's a party dude! Such a clown, but still has wit.
Donatello does machines! Super genius with his gear.
Leonardo leads the team! He's got skills to use when the Foot Clan's drawing near.

What do you think? It's not really a big deal. Besides, it may need work.

Vanilla Ice, of course. Go Ninja Go! Honestly, I'd only want rap if it was appropriate, such as being associated with a gang. No rap in front of Splinter, of course! But how about some Shred Metal for Shredder?

I totally disagree. Not just because I hate hip hop but because they're martial artists. If it's not going to be traditional Chinese music then it should be fast and rocking.

Why should it be chinese? Everything in TMNT is influenced by the japanese.

I don't understand how rock is more appropriate for ninjas than hip-hop. They make about the same amount of sense to me which is not much.

Yeah, I meant Japanese. I was thinking of karate's origins. And with the music, I guess it's just personal preference. But when I think of martial arts, I think speed, and with speed I think of fast rock music.

People only make that association because the movies used that style. Rock and metal are what the creators actually listened to and it works just fine for turtles. Truth be told any kind of music will work with anything given the context of the scene. Something like say Children of Bodom is great for a fight scene because it's fast, in your face, and creates energy.

I personally prefer score to any kind of soundtrack. All soundtracks do is date things unless the music is already classic.

I'm saving the best for last. I feel Leo wasn't given more clout in the theme song. "Leonardo Leads! Donatello Does Machines!" You see how little that is? This time, there should be more than just "leads." To me, "leads the team" is a winner. Still, I'm going for an instrumental, too. Something that sounds like the theme from 24 or Criminal Minds would do.

Plus, the leader should be mentioned last because he's badass!:tcool:

I like that! Personally, I always thought 80s metal felt more TMNT-ish to me than hip hop.:)

If you watch Power Rangers Samurai, I've heard the battle theme from the MMPR era in a nice, updated form (listen to that show's credits!), and I feel it would be a good similar idea to use it on the new series. (And I've even heard the pink ranger say "Turtle Power"!)

I think a good theme song could be like a remix of the "Turtle Power" rap from the first live action movie.
