Turtles Forever Make Anyone Sad?

Just got the UK release of TF and decided to watch it again. I had only seen the extended cut once so the cut scenes felt almost new to me. Anyway I notice that every time I get to the Mirage comic part I get a little sad. By the end when Kevin and Peter are talking it's even worse. Not like I'm crying or something it just hits me that TF was the end of an era.

There comes a time when people have to let their childhoods go and TF was pretty much it. The credits are even more of a reminder sporting the names of all the awesome artists who helped shape my fond TMNT memories. I look at all the new TMNT stuff we have and what's coming and I see a world that has no room for me. Even the new comic just isn't doing it for me. I guess watching TF reminds me of that. The 3 biggest incarnations of TMNT getting together for one last big hurrah.

The turtles will never ever be the same again and for the most part the people who helped shape who the TMNT are today will have little to do with it. Eastman working on the book and Rob doing a voice for the new toon are probably the most we'll get. Maybe it's just me that's saddened by this but TF truly feels like a conclusion to a 25 year long saga.

I feel ya Spit. While it's nice to have a TMNT book that comes out on time, it's not the original, ongoing story, it's "Ultimate TMNT". I'd rather continue the story Pete ceased as it ended on collosal cliffhangers, so I won't support this one no matter how good it is. As for the new Nick cartoon, I'll give it a go, but I've got a feeling it'll be following, not leading

Not for me as it was the beginning of "rediscovering" the TMNT and showed that the franchise has staying power! Since I was raised on G1 (pre-Next Mutation), it almost felt like a class reunion to me. Like when I first discovered TMNT when I was 4, I found this by accident and even though my grown mother was in my room, she didn't mind, considering I told her it was brand new. I could feel sad if I had followed the 4kids series more realizing that it was truly the end of that generation, and when I have the chance to finish watching that series, may very well feel sad about it.

No, not really. I mean, it's sad to see the franchise end as far as Pete's involvement in it since he won't be involved in the Nick show. However, I'm not going to be sad because we have a new show coming next year. Now, if that show doesn't do well, then I'll be longing for what once was and be sad. But if the new show's really good, then I'm not going to be sad about it. It may be the end of the Peter Laird era, but it's really not the end of things just yet. Dry your tears.

It was sorta sad for me to see the 2K3 turtles leave for the last time, especially with that music.

It was a little bitter sweet for me. I had only discovered the 4kids show on DVD. I picked it up more out of curiosity then anything. I mean I had grown up on the Fred Wolf cartoon and didn't know to years later that it was a comic. But by the time I found 4kids I had read all of volume 1 and 4. You could really feel Pete's involvement in it. It became my favorite toon show version of the TMNT.

Turtles Forever did make me feel sad. It still does. Not only did it feel like an ending for the cartoon but also a farewell to the TMNT being owned by Mirage. It felt like a goodbye letter from Pete to the fan's.

However we do have a bright future ahead it seems and that makes me happy now. I will admit when I heard Nick had the rights I really did try to walk away. I was angry and felt like as a fan I had been let down. But then I read his blog about things and couldn't hold it against him. Also I started to listen to what was being said about the Nick show. When IDW got the rights to do comics I was stoked.

The new comics aren't the original. They are another telling, a re-imagining. To have Kevin back on the title is great. You can see the big difference in tone the two have. I still have what came before, but now I have new things to look forward to too.

Turtles Forever was intended to close one door in TMNT history but open another one. We're not supposed to call it quits, it was a celebration of the first 25 years of the franchise.

Of course if you watch the Nick show and don't like it that's another story but I would at least hope you guys will give it a chance. Just look at Fast Forwards initial backlash but then later people realized they liked it.

The IDW series is shaping up nicely so far and as said its basically "Ultimate TMNT" where it's a reboot taking things from every universe.

And remember the Mirage universe isn't done. Image has been worked back into continuity and we may get a Volume 4 ending within the next 5-7 years.

TMNT is for us what Star Wars, Star Trek, Batman, Spiderman, etc. are for others, they basically follow the franchise for their whole life.

It was a very nice re-cap and close of the era, very cool how they brought the Mirage comic-verse, original toon-verse, and 2k3 Series all in line. A very awesome ending to a very awesome 25 years of Turtle history, But I really look forward to the next chapter, don't get me wrong, I'd be stoked if we could get a continuation of the Mirageverse, but the IDW comic has been awesome. A very fresh take on the Turtles which isn't meant to replace the original mythos but exist parallel to them. With IDW continuing the original Marvel run of the TF series now, I don't think it'd be a stretch at all for them to run a similar type of platform for a continuation of the original comic continuity alongside the IDW "ultimate verse."

I think the Turtles Forever was awesome and was as others say "End of a chapter" but it is the beginning of a new chapter as well. The only thing that kills me is that they made the OT look like complete retards.............:-? But still thought Turtles forever was incredibly awesome:D

Yeah I agree, I think they took the old Toon's Turtles goofiness a little too far, but they still had their moments of being very effective in battle like Mikey knocking down the fan and taking out the Purple Dragons, Donatello using the boulder to take out mass quanties of Foot Soldiers, and the exploding throwing stars at the end. My least favorite moment would have been when they got scared and huddled up like 5 year old kids who just had a nightmare, but overall still very enjoyable.

There was no "new chapter" undertones to Turtles Forever whatsoever and any you see are imagined. Everything about it from beginning to the end, with the Turtle sketch, was about closing the book on the whole thing.

Except that book was the first issue of the comic, with Peter and Kevin making that "I hope it sells" remark that is hilarious in hindsight. The title of the movie is Turtles Forever, after all, and the plot was about saving the entirety of the franchise. True; I don't exactly expect the 1987 or 2003 turtles to show up again, but elements from both probably will, shell; in the IDW comic they already have.

I also hear Playmates plans to release figures from past incarnations. Hopefully many are the same sculpt as the originals, as I missed picking them up on the 25th Anniversary and their price is back up, but I also hope for toys of characters we never got.

Yeah. I can't say enough great things about that night and everyone responsible for it... free drink tickets at an adult venue with an amazing bar (though I did not partake they even fed us... like limitless pizza and green popcorn, I believe), lots of TMNT fans I'd only talked to online for years, lots of TMNT alumni (Dan, Jim, Tristan, Ernie Reyes even showed up -- drunker than me, too, which must have taken some doing), and Turtles Forever playing on a decently enough big screen.

All I recall is that I was looking at a set or two as I came in with the movie in progress (Hun's "mutant turtle filth" speech) as soon as I showed up. I don't remember if there were more than two where everyone was watching tho. But, it seemed like they had a Wal-Mart Channel sorta thing going on with it.

It was a mix of emotions. I finally got to see "my" turtles again so it was a feeling of joy. There was also annoyance at the poor portrayal of the '87 turtles and the furtherest from the true Shredder claiming he was. The ending was well done though except for the "tickle ray" reference. I had been wanting Bebop and Rocksteady to get a little blood on their hands and Bebop apparently did albit accidently.:) : I give it a solid "B". It would have been an "A" if the '87 series was treated more fairly.

I think the word "bittersweet" really also describes how I feel more then sad.

I'm excited for the new Turtles and the changes, but I'm also going to miss Mirage and 4Kids and the years of nerdy fandom happiness they brought me. I think more then anything it's the personal memories I have tied up to this portion of the franchise, the cons I attended the friends I made that will make it even more meaningful for me.
