Some of you really should read Laird's blog more often:

Where did the name Stockman come from? I don't think it's really a common name to just choose out of a hate, so to speak :)

Neil, I was going to question your seemingly odd phrase -- "choose out of a HATE"??? -- but then realized you meant "hat", not "hate".
Stockman's last name was inspired by a particular type of paper upon which some comics were being printed around the time the first few issues of the Turtles were published. It was prized for its bright whiteness and quality feel... and its name was "Baxter Stock". -- PL
Mind blown.

Interesting. What I find even more interesting is the fact that Laird keeps updating his Tmnt blog with new material but has yet to comment on the new IDW series. I mean, you know he has had to check it out.

Names are always difficult to come up with, it's fun to learn where they come from

I've noticed that too. Its obvious hes still got a lot of love for TMNT. In fact I'm hoping it will be the driving force for him to publish some new turtle material under Mirage.

He's said many times that if he ever does new comics again, it would only be a Vol. 4 conclusion, nothing else.
And that's fine with me. Give us an ending to Vol. 4 and the Mirage universe can have its true finale.

Wow, that's pretty neat! I love little explanatory tidbits like that.

I'd love to think you're right but I figure he keeps up with the blog moreso for his loyal fans rather than out of his own passion for it.

I agree. Somebody has had to have given him the comic by now.

Why? If he doesn't go to comic stores (he flat out said he doesn't read ANY comics anymore), and didn't buy it online...where would he get it from?
I don't assume IDW is giving him copies for free or a random fan isn't knocking on his door and saying, "Hey, did you see the new TMNT series? Bebop and Rocksteady are back!"
Its actually quite likely he hasn't seen or touched any IDW TMNT comic aside from the Mirage collection, as he contributed to that.

Are you an idiot? Do you live with Peter? The guy is the co-creator of the turtles. And Lawson and Murphy have both checked out the new series so it's a little hard to believe Pete hasn't seen anything.

Very cool. I cant say ive ever really wondered about the origin of the name, but finding things like this are always interesting :)

Are you joking? This has been asked on his blog a few times, and Peter Laird said that he might "look" at the comics at some point, but that he probably won't read them.
Have you completely forgotten that Laird has wanted to distant himself from the Turtles? Or do you not read his blog?
Where did you get the idiotic assumption that Peter Laird is actually going to read each and every IDW issue?

Um, when did I say he was going to ''read each and every issue''? Read slower, post less.
Again, stop assuming you know everything. Just because he says one thing on the internet doesn't mean that he doesn't do it in his off time. He may have ''distanced'' himself from the turtles but that doesn't change the fact that he still updates his TURTLE BLOG quite often. So his life really isn't rid of the turtles. Never will be I think.

I've been reading everything PL replies to on his blog and a few people did ask him already if he picked up the IDW series around the time only #1 and #2 were out. At that point he hasn't read or even looked at either them.
It is possible things changed from then till now, but until he says something in his blog, I'll assume nothing change.
Peter Laird even flat-out said there were some issues of Tales V. 2 that he never read after he approved the script for them, (meaning, he never read the completed issue afterward), and this is Mirage stuff no less.

I think Samhain took care of this response for me.

PL can claim to be rid of TMNT all he wants, but fact is (like has been stated) he updates his TMNT blog almost daily and I guarantee you somebody has shown him or mailed him at least #1 of IDW's TMNT. Nobody said he's keeping up with the series. It's his creation, for god's sake. He may not go to comic shops or read comics regularly but the guy still has friends who are involved with TMNT - friends he keeps in touch with, I would imagine. I would be incredibly shocked if he hasn't seen any of IDW's TMNT, despite what he might want people to believe.

If you guys are so concerned if Peter Laird has checked out the IDW series or not, why don't you directly ask him in his blog? He responds to most questions there, even if you ask him it in the totally unrelated 4kids script posts.

Baxter Stock was prized for it's bright whiteness, huh? Hilariously ironic that Baxter Stockman ended up being portrayed as a white man years later haha.

Ive read that, but the side publishing deal he made with Viacom certainly leaves a lot of wiggle room if he ever changes his mind.
Im almost expecting him to release an end to Vol. 4 and fingers crossed hoping he goes beyond even if its just one shot or a TPB he does for that nostalgic feeling every couple years.
I guess Im just not fully accepting that Peter is walking away from the Turtles forever excluding the vol. 4 ending of course.

Vol. 4 should definitely have a conclusion but only if Peter Laird does it, nobody else.
Although, given the work done on Image 24 and 25, I certainly wouldn't mind if Andrew writes a Vol. 4 conclusion some 10 years down the road if PL truly never concludes it by then.

Pretty sure it's due to the fact that a conclusion would represent the end of the Mirage era for good. Without one, it's left open & gives you that "one day..." feeling. Hope, I guess. We all want to know what happens, but nobody wants to lose Mirage in that sense.

really interesting blog post, thanks for posting it. I also found it cool how PL actually still takes the time to answer questions in a comment section. Until visiting this site I had no idea he was still so actively involved with the Turtles up until selling it. Even after apparently.

Yep. Nailed it. Besides, we all know how it "ends": the guys die. While naturally a part of life, the Turtles are also shown as being extremely long-lived so the have many many more adventures to go on before they completely separate and apparently become estranged from one another.
Of course, Renet could set all that straight soo...?
