Seeing as the Foot wear red, as does the Shredder in the Mirageverse... and that Hamato Yoshi himself was a member of the Foot, from which Splinter, and in turn the Turtles learned their ninjitsu from... I suppose the all red bandanas do make sense in the sense of a 'clan'. But I also realized all the red could still have been homage to the fact that the first issue was a Daredevil parody. I wonder why they decided to give Shredder a purple outfit instead.

Purple is the color of royalty, and Shredder wants to rule the world (assuming you're asking about the old cartoon).

The Foot's color scheme appeared more of a burgundy to me.

Shredder wore red in the color pages of Mirage - at least all I've seen.

Yeah, I meant the old toon. Kinda funny how the first movie had Shredder in red to reflect Mirage and then purple in the sequel to reflect the old toon.

Again, it appears more burgundy/maroonish than flat out red.

Not fact. Both Kevin and Peter have publically refuted it as parody.

We should be honest here though, at the very least it's an unintended parody.
- The origin story using elements from Daredevil's orgin.
- The ninja clan "The hand" which becomes "The foot".
- I'm not sure if anyone else spotted other things, maybe Xavier and the
X-men

But hey, it's all good. It was a great story and without it we wouldn't be here today.

Besides those points. The master that trained DareDevil is Stick. And the Turtles master is Splinter. :D

You can always find parallels in comics, especially between the big 2 who copy each other more than you'd think. I'd say the Turtles definitely have parallels to the X-MEN being mutants and such and maybe you could stretch that the Utrom have parallels to the Shi'ar, but I don't think that they are a parody at all. One can always look and say "See these are similar" but that doesn't mean they parodied or copied and idea. I think any elements that are similar are a sign of the cultural times and may just be Kevin and Peter giving some little shout outs to the comics and creators that inspired them and what books they read growing up. But that doesn't mean its a parody.
