Was Browsing around ComicBookMovie.com and found this piece on the first Turtles film. http://www.comicbookmovie.com/teenage_mutant_ninja_turtles/news/?a=28472. Thought it was an Interesting article in that it considers TMNT 1990 to be the best comic book film adaption thus far. Out of alll the comic book films I have seen I would have to say it is my favorite. Anyone agree or disagree with the article?

I've always thought TMNT was one of the best adaptations out there....but I am a little bit biased.

Same here. I've been a fanboy for so long, and it was one of the first comic book movies ever for me, so it's hard to not show favoritism.

Even if you're unaware that it's based very much on the comic books, and just look at it as a kid's film, it's still way better than you'd expect. It remains watchable as an adult because it's self contained and is cartoony without going too far. Think of all the kid's movies based on popular franchises: Power Rangers, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh. Those movies get ripped to shreds because they were either too cheesy or made no sense unless you were a kid that watched the cartoon. The main complaint about the TMNT movie was that it was a part of the TMNT marketing machine. Even if the plot is weird, it still made sense to adults.

The idea for a TMNT movie was mentioned as early as 1986 when Stanely Wiater mentioned such a concept, so it definitely had time to build. I find this first movie a culmination on the original plan Eastman & Laird were seeking when they started TMNT; the source material was complete, the older (comics) and younger (Fred Wolf/Playmates) groups were established, and everything that the article mentions is true/mostly true with regards to their review.

I still think it's a solid third to Superman (1978 and Batman (1989), given the reception of those movies plus the box offices figures, and you just can't deny how popular those other two movies are, given those franchises were around for generations before having a Blockbuster movie.

As far as faithfulness to material is concerned, I would say the original Turtles movie is, by far, one of the best comic films out there. The only others that I can think of that come close are Sin City and Watchmen.

I love movies in general, and comic book movies particularly. The first TMNT film from 1990 stands to this day as one of my most cherished moviegoing experiences and favorite pictures. I would say that, as far as adaptations go, it's superb-a few great sources meshing well for a new whole that had a gritty realism yet maintained a sense of fun and yes-whimsy. (I'm a big fan of whimsy; I'd bottle it up and hoarse it if I could.)

Best TMNT film so far and in some cases is better than some recent heroes films, IMO.
