I read it years ago and that introduced me to the Cerebus comic which I followed for a while. Has anyone else read the same comic or otherwise followed Cerebus?

I expect most of us in this section have read TMNT v1 #8.
As for the Cerebus series, I read the first 20 issues or so and enjoyed it as some amusing Conan the Barbarian parody but have not yet gotten around to the more serious subject matter tackled further along in its 300-issue run.

I've only read the crossover, can't say the character got me any interesting to check out some Cerebus issues

hi, I am somewhere in the first fifty issues, so in the middle of high society(which is the second and quite well liked one of the cerebus reprint collections lovingly called 'telephone books')....sim is a great inovator and skilled at humour and social parody and whatnot...somewhere in the thickness of the cerebus run it can get pretty hard to continue because he likes to drift away into loooong monolgues or simply texts....but then glimpse once and -booom.you're in the middle of something awesomely unique again...so to say I always regard getting through to that 300th issue one day as the climbing of the mount everest...people who think about reading through it face a long and dangerous adventure....

Well, truth be told, Cerebus effectively jumped the shark sometime during "Church and State" when it got less funny and too "deep meaningful".
I brought it up with this idea: I am an artist myself, if not on the level of others here. I thought of doing a TMNT and Cerebus "second crossover" picture, where Cerebus and the Turtles read the whiny letters that started being sent in to "Aardvark Comment" sometime in the comic's run, and they all laugh at them.
I brought this up because I wanted to make sure that there would be people who would understand the joke.

What were the whiny letters about? Cerebus becoming less funny and becoming too serious and abstract?

No, people writing in self-pity about their own personal problems, evidently inspred by certain events in the comic. Losing their loves, being sexually frustrated, that sort of thing. I'm not making this up.

And let us not forget the (http://www.flickr.com/photos/terrible2z/524202658/) time (http://www.flickr.com/photos/terrible2z/524202624/) Cerebus and the Turtles met up with the Miami Mice.

Why would anybody in the comic section be familiar with that?

Reading TMNT #8 never gave me any desire to care about Cerebus in his own series. If that was the intent of the crossover, it failed.
Hell I wasn't even too fond of either Renet or Savanti at first either.

The TMNT/Flaming Carrot crossover didn't prompt me to want to follow Flaming Carrot either. Nor did the Cerebus/Flaming Carrot crossover. Probably because the Flaming Carrot comics had dumb humor.
