Do you think they should aim for that tone in the show? Tom Waltz and Bobby confirmed Nick has to approve of every storyline and character before the new comics see print. Thankfully they're not forcing IDW to dumb down anything which is a blessing.

Do you think Nick will have the show aimed at a younger audience or follow in the foot steps of the IDW series in terms of tone? Story wise we know they're going to be completely different, but I wonder how much of IdW's success influences what Nick might do with the show.

It'll probably fall in lines with the audience of their other action shows. Maybe similar overall plot points might be used, but I'm guessing plenty of goofiness will come through.

Nick are smart enough to know TMNT has several types of fans. Approving what is a niche comic book is low-on-the-totem pole stuff for them

It's not a niche comic. The IDW series is the best selling non-DC or Marvel comic for a few months now. Whether good sales will continue is anyone's guess.

Although I of course agree with you that more people watch TV than read comics.

I kinda really hope Old Hob appears in the cartoon. He seems popular enough and he could work in the show. Since the Season 1 scripts are far along he probably wouldn't appear till Season 2 if they decide to use him.

Ask anyone in the mainstream anything about comics, and they probably won't know much. I guess that the comics medium as a whole is a niche form of entertainment. But still, the comic seems to be selling well, so I'm sure Nick is keeping a keen eye on the book to make sure it stays in line with what they have planned for the property.

IDK Avatar the Last Air bender was aimed at a younger audience, but it was popular among the older audience. That show was awesome IMO and I hope for TMNT to have similar tone

They own the property so of course they're going to look over what happens in the comics.

Just be thankful that Nick is allowing Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz to pretty much do what they want, and they're not forcing them to dumb down anything.

We're in good hands with IDW. The future for TMNT comics looks quite bright.

It doesn't surprise me that they have to approve of everything but I doubt they're putting much attention or care much of what is going on, they want to add a mutant I doubt they'd care but if they want to kill off Leonardo or make April a stripper then they'd probably not approve it.

This makes me think back to the Power Rangers comics in the 90's. It's a good bet Saban looked over all the comic book stories, which would explain why the plots were always exactly like the formula of every episode. It would have been nice if the writers were given a little more creative freedom, but apparently not.

I'm just glad there's a company allowed to publish TMNT comics now. This time last year, I thought that TMNT comics might get the "Disney vault" treatment, except they'd never get re-released.

Part of the reason why I feel the 4kids series is a bit overrated is since it was based more on the comics, it meant less creative freedom with the writers (though they did a fairly good job given with the variations they used). I just don't want to see any plagarizing, and of course creative freedom is what drives a story forward! But remember, the 1987 cartoon only loosely took a very few elements from the comics at that point while possessing lots of creative freedom. With no Peter Laird involved, that also loosens restrictions. Ninja in general is riding a new wave of popularity as of late in the media, and with the nostalgia factor in full effect, the stage is set for a nice TMNT comeback soon.
