View Full Version : How would you want volume 4 finished?

I'm thinking graphic novel. At the pace Pete wrote Vol. 4 in, that'd probably be the best received way to conclude all his plot-lines.

If PL decides once and for all he will never finish it, this is what should happen:

He gives his story ideas to IDW so it's still his vision. IDW hires Jim Lawson for the art for consistency. Vol 4 is produced in short specials and then collected into IDW's inevitable Vol 4 trades.

So we get a conclusion, it's still PL's story ideas and plots, only IDW actually writes it.

I like things traditional. So my vote went to single issues. I don't want anyone from IDW touching vol. 4 though, as far as adding content is considered. It started as Petes baby & it should end that way.

Plus if IDW did start doing their own version of a Vol. 4 conclusion... Peter Laird still has his 18 comics a year clause with Nick/Viacom to do Mirage TMNT, so he could conceivably just paint right over what they end up doing one day (in fact, seeing IDW start doing one might just get him fired up enough to continue Vol. 4).

Or vice versa. Either way, I doubt it'd make for good feelings between either camp.

Individual comics would be great, I wouldn't mind graphic novel/novels Pete writing and Jim on pencils is the way to go. Also love Michael Doony's covers :)

I'm a fan of keeping it old-school with individual issues, but I have to feel like Vol. 4 would and could only truly end if Laird himself completed it, and in single-issue form that would likely take another 50 issues which would cost $14.95 each, so for the sake of sanity I'd prefer a nice chunky graphic novel to jush finish the whole thing off and so everyone has a chance to see the ending. I'm still pissed I missed the last few issues of TMNT and Tales, because I couldn't afford/find them at the time.

However if IDW or someone was going to complete VOL. 4 in a more timely manner, I'd support single-issues, as long as they were reasonably priced. I too feel that it really should only be Pete finishing it but if the choice is between any ending and no ending, I'd just like to see an ending, not an eternal "What If?" like Forever War. I'm sorry, until it sees the light of day in an official capacity I will never, EVER forgive them for that mess.

I'd like individual issues, but I understand that's not financially viable.

So what I'd be perfectly pleased with would be collected editions of Volume 4, with a conclusion added as a buying incentive for the final trade. If Laird doesn't want to/is unable to write the full scripts for the conclusion himself, then I'd be cool if he passed the summaries onto Lawson, who is a perfectly capable author in his own right.

I prefer individual issues. It builds some hype with all the waiting in between.

If PL gives his story plots and/or ideas to another writer, it would still be his vision. He flat out said on his blog he was considering posting quick story blurbs of how he wanted Vol. 4 to end, but for some reason never posted them.

I think he's reluctant to post how he wants it to end just in case he does change his mind. Otherwise I am sure we would have all read outlines of the end of Vol. 4 on his blog by now.

I also like the idea of Jim Lawson writing the end of Vol. 4 based on PL's ideas.

But anyway, there is no shame in IDW finishing something like this. Especially considering the Mirage universe is over at this point, Volume 4's conclusion would give the Mirage Turtles the sendoff they truly deserve.

Dude, there is no way Laird would let IDW do that. If he wants to finish it, HE will. Peter is sort of a ''it's mine'' kinda person.

Which is why if he decides to never do it, but posts the story plots for the end of Vol. 4, I'd rather see it produced.

Otherwise we'll have to rely on Andrew for a Vol. 4 conclusion in another 5-10 years from now.

I'm pretty sure Peter Laird has no power to tell IDW what they can and can't do. He gave that right up for $60 million.

But he didn't give up the right to do comics. IDW wouldn't step on his toes and decide to finish it themselves, it's his baby. That's all I meant. If and when he decides to finish it, I think he will. Not IDW.

Laird only has the power to do single issues but I'd like to see a graphic novel. I'm sure IDW would print one for him like they have with the past Mirage material. If he's truly an artist he won't be finishing it for money he'll want to finish it to finish it.

As for how, I'd like to see it conclude on the event that lead to the Earth being like it is in the future issues.

Ideally individual issues but it seems even getting it printed would probably be a hassle he doesn't want. I think most fans who would care to read a Vol. 4 conclusion would take it in whatever form it came in.

It's unlikely that IDW would want to conclude Vol. 4 itself but since in the first issue of the book Peter said he'd be using ideas he and Kevin worked on together. It'd be interesting to see which specific ideas these were by working them into the IDW series since Kevin himself is involved.

Unlikely but it could happen.

It's true that he still has the right to make comics himself, but he can't stop IDW from doing what they want, including finishing volume 4. Are they likely to? For several reasons, no. But the fact is that they could.

Where's the "I wouldn't" option?

That's the one I would choose.

Add my voice to the numbers saying individual issue conclusion.
Is it a possible scenario? Totally.
Is it a probable one? Highly unlikely given the current climate.

But a girl can dream

It depends on if he'd be willing to make vol. 4 actually interesting before I could make a proper decision.

i'd prefer individual issues, though i'd gladly read them in any format they were released. even if pete etched them on to rolls of toilet paper with red crayon.

Single issues for the sake of consistency. And after it's finished IDW can collect it in TPBs/HCs.

Individual issues, and published by Mirage. I would prefer it to be written by Peter Laird, but wouldn't mind at all if he gave his ideas to Lawson. And I really hope this actually does happen at some point in the future, because I would hate Volume 4 to remain unfinished.

Anything but digital, since this volume began in print, plus it makes no sense for a volume to be interrupted by a format change. I wouldn't mind a re-release of earlier issues via TPB if TMNT becomes big again thanks to the new show. Since there was that Archie series running alongside Mirage back in the good old days, it would still make sense for that "alternative" series to sell. I honestly don't care who publishes it as long as it has good continuity.

I would like vol. 4 to never end and just keep going telling the lives of the turtles as they live and grow. Sure I'd like to see some current questions and stories tied up, but then it could continue to other adventures. It would be like keeping in contact with characters we've known for years instead of just wrapping up the story we have now and leaving us with the happily (or saddily) ever after ending not knowing how the rest of their lives went.

We know how their lives went. We have all the Future Turtle stories.

That's why it doesn't make sense to me why people say, "Oh let's just leave it be so we don't know where their lives go," but...we DO know. Tales #69 pretty much already gave us a near conclusion to the Vol. 4 story arc without telling us exactly what happened.

What needs to be wrapped up:

- In the Battle Nexus, there is an Oroku Yoshi and alternate Splinter there. I would like to see how Leonardo interacts with them and how it goes. Also is the Karai on Earth an alternate one?

- Raphael needs to de-mutate back to normal, as well as Don returning to his normal size. (Gee, sounds a lot like Image, eh?)

- Mike and the Triceratons were waging war against the Styracodons and The Regenta. This has great potential.

Everything else is pretty much wrapped up. We know how the Xihad extremists groups end, we're seeing April return to her family of Shadow and Casey, and the vampires/aliens that mutated Raphael have been arrested.

If anything Vol. 4 is already nearing its climax.

I would say single issues and Peter and Jim finishing it. I don't plan on going anywhere so I can wait.

I think any future perspective we've been getting so far just represents a possibillity...much like the characters introduced in the battle nexus tournament reality it is only a piece of the truth...
I would love to get single issues and have pete and lawson of course telling us the way of things...but a 40something pages story by lairdman would be the green diamond for me in terms of collabos;)

I would like a graphic novel by both Eastman and Laird. Let those who started it also finish it.

I too want soemthing like this. The two had plans for this back in 1992 for a middle aged TMNT graphic novel. Kevin and Peter had it mapped out, Kevin said he had the notes somewhere. I'm sure if he doesn't have those anymore they could still hammer out the plan. The only thing that won't work is Splinter's death. I remember emailing Peter when the TMNT was in its "dormant" times before the 2003 cartoon/merchandise revival. He implied to me that Splinter's death was among the ideas for the graphic novel. So this won't be in that ever such book. It'd be great if this could happen again. I mean yes let Kevin and Peter have one last go or finale to the TMNT (not like their doing much comics these days). Let IDW publish it (one less thing for Peter/Mirage to not worry about). They could always slap the Mirage name on it. I'm all for this if they can ever get these two back together.

Individual physical issues for me. Doing a graphic novel format to me would imply altering the content to keep a continued flow. I'd rather things stay the same as they were, and be finished in a like fashion: Peter Laird doing the stories, Lawson the art.

And I'd like it published by Mirage, if that's still possible by this point. (They don't seem to operate as, well...much of anything besides selling old comics.)

Also, reading stuff about giving the basic plot points to someone else...I don't want that. It's Peter Laird writes the whole thing or I don't wanna see it at all. He pulled me in with his vision, and I wanna see it end the way he would have in mind—his words, all of it.

We know how their lives went. We have all the Future Turtle stories.

You're right. We do see some future stories, but I think there has to be some things untold that happened between their mid thirties and their death. That's a long time, more than half of their lives. Anyway, I just wish them comics would never end. I like 'em!

Oh, I forgot to say in my last post that I would rather have individual physical issues, but a graphic novel would be alright.

After the reveal at the end of Issue #31, I really want to know what happens...is it Splinter's double or could it be Splinter as the Rat King (he might had accepted the role just before his death)?

What if he's an evil Splinter?
