That's pretty much how I have it.
Curnow said he'd be posting his own timeline soon; dunno if he has yet.

02-09-2012, 09:19 AM
He said he'd do it in August/September, once they're a year in. I'd imagine the only confusion at that point will be the Infestation Mini's placement.
Bobby Curnow

Indeed, I will post a timeline after year one is complete, but this looks accurate. Infestation 1 & 2 happens before TMNT #7, after Donatello micro.
(though Infestation is extremely self contained.)

Cool, thanks for the heads up. Sounds like it takes those Mousers a little while to find Splinter and the guys, eh? It'd be neat to see Don hindering their efforts in his Micro.

The 2 orders for the events of mid/late January are due to a new, approved reading order by Editor Bobby Curnow. According to original editor's notes the April micro took place before the Casey micro and discussion at the time placed the Fugitoid micro in release order after #14. With hindsight Bobby has agreed that the story flows better if the micros are read before their respective thematic arc. There are no chronological problems with either order.

Cool, good job bud. I'd combine it with mine but I'd reach the max for a post real quick. If you just wanna keep your post edited, this thread's first page will be an even better reference for timeline stuff.

Thanks Nines! I'm sure between everyone in this thread we'll keep the timeline up to date and accurate as things go along (rather than face the massive task Dr Spengler did 25 years later!)

Lol yeah, as fun as it is to go back through old stuff and sort it all out, it's equally exciting to finally be ahead of the game on a TMNT book. Other than Tales (which doesn't really count) this is the first Turtles book I'll be able to read in proper order.
One awesome thing I realized from your time line though... the events that get things rolling from "18 months ago" take place in May 2010. The same real-world time that Mirage published their last book.

There's one thing I noticed here, I'm nitpicking really but I'm going to say it anyway.
in the Raphael Micro Leo orders the guys to only go out in pairs. Yet Michelangelo is out all alone in his micro. I guess it's reasonable to say he snuck out even though he doesn't mention any of this and no one seems to be looking for him.

I suppose it's because Leo's referring to their training runs, and Mike was just out at the movies and just used that excuse to be gone all day.

I'm quite sure Leo means they have to go out in pairs all the time. The point of his order is for them to be less vulnerable to their enemies when they go out, it doesn't really matter what they go out for.

Updated my post based on Bobby's new information on Hero Comics 2012.
I've put it last in the "between #6 and #7" adventures purely because it comes out after the others, but I've asked Bobby if he can clarify over on the IDW boards in case this is wrong.

Probably for the best. Bobby's just said straight after #6 but it really doesn't matter. I'm gonna move it there for now and if we want to move it again after reading it then we can.
So far my best guess is the guys, especially Don, wanted to clear their heads and get some air after speaking with Splinter. Rooftop race (which ther first page and title seem to imply) would be a fun way to do that.
Finally picking up #8 tomorrow!

Looking forward to getting into this series. Gonna buy some TPBs soon. Hope it isn't like the GI Joe IDW series (let's introduce a favorite character from your childhood, and 2 panels later - he's dead).
8/21/12: read the first 3 graphic novels last week on my birthday. Wasnt feeling he first change is constant volume, but really enjoyed the micro series 1 volume, and volume 2 of the main line. Looking forward to the future graphic novels.

I'm debating where to put the Fugitoid issue...
It's mostly a flashback issue, and when it catches up to "present day" it seems to run into the whole Shadows of the Past arc, but the plot points from it won't really pick up until #17. Any thoughts?

I honestly debate with myself whether or not the Infestation issues should actually canon to the series.
It's never referenced, not even when Donatello lists the different events that have gone on in the series, and I personally think, almost being devoured by an Occult God would be a really big deal. And I doubt it ever will be referenced again.
Plus, the story line just reads much more smoothly without those two issues between issues 6 and 7... =/

I really like the Infestation issues, but I agree. They don't fit well with the rest of the series at the moment. I don't know if they will ever tie back in. I hope they do. Tristian did an amazing job with those issues, and I'd love to see him come back.

Don't forget Splinter has brown fur in that issue, unlike the gray fur Splinter.
To be honest that issue felt like part of the 4kids universe to me. Especially with Raph hitting Mikey on the head like he did in that show.

The way I read Donnie's line of "3 out of 4 of the battles we've fought had nothing to do with anything supernatural", is that he's just further refuting Leo by not even counting his story about the Foot Clan. So the 1 supernatural battle out of the 4 total would be their throwdown with Shub-Niggurath :)
And the few days that make up the Infestation story line were Old Hob's training with controlling the Mouser's and trying to locate the lair.

I wasn't sure, either.
At the IDW Forums, Curnow's only statement about placement is that it sets up #17.
So for the time being, in the Turtle Tips section of my review at TMNT Entity, I stuck it between #16 and #17.
It may get shuffled once those issues come out and we see how the narrative flows, but that's just where I'm stashing it for now.

I really don't think so, Donny calls the Foot Clan mystical ninjas and paranormal nonsense, all in the same sentence. That, and the conversation was chock full of references to all four micro issues, I honestly don't believe he was talking about the Infestation issues.

Regarding Fugitoid’s place in the timeline...
In TMNT #5 it’s said Raph has been training with the guys for a month. As that issue takes place around Christmas time that puts TMNT #1-4 in November (let’s say 2011). That makes the “18 months ago” flashback, where April joins Stockgen as an intern, May 2010 and the “15 months ago” flashbacks (the break in, the mutation, Old Hob starting to work with Baxter) August 2010.
So TMNT #5, the Raph micro and the Mikey mirco all take place late December (a few days before Christmas through to NYE)
TMNT #6 picks up shortly after, presumably early to mid January as April is back in college following winter break. There’s a small narrative (few days/week at most), where Kevin Eastman’s short Hero Comics story, the Donatello micro and Infestation 2 take place, then TMNT #7-8, Leo micro, TMNT #9-12 (and Splinter micro during #11) all take place over one night!
There’s another short narrative gap (only a day or so based on events in TMNT #13, like Splinter still meditating on Shredder’s return and Baxter just regaining consciousness following Krang drugging him in TMNT #12) where the April micro takes place, then we have the Casey micro which leads directly into TMNT #13-14. So I think it’s safe to say we’re still in January at the moment.
The earliest the Fugitoid micro can take place is between TMNT #12 and the April micro, as Chet reflects on events seen in TMNT #9. If Bobby says it fits after #14 then that’s good enough for me (he posted the other day it could fit either before #1 as most of it is set in the past or after #14 as that's when it was intended to be released). It’s only a few days later in the narrative, and actually fits nicely with Shredder telling Karai she’s no longer second in command in TMNT #13 as she’s not by his side when Chet meets him at the end of the micro.
Working on Fugitoid’s “present day” being January 2012, that makes the events of two years ago January 2010, and the events of 20 months ago May 2010, so Chet must have joined Stocktronics pretty much immediately as that’s the same month April joined as an intern! The timing is a little tight, but there’s nothing in that first flashback that really contradicts this. By 18 months ago (July 2010) Chet was officially aware that Baxter was working for Krang and presumably working on projects like the mutagen, terrapin exo-armor and psychotropic serum (I say officially as I presume he knew before and that’s the reason he took the job, but by July 2010 he had been told the truth, or at least a verison of it, by Baxter as he was in the office with Baxter whilst he was communicating with Krang).
Just skimmed through pretty much the entire run to make sure all the details fit and I have to say it’s been a great ride so far, and whilst #12 was a climax of sorts, it feels like everything is still building towards even bigger events in the near future with the upcoming Krang arc and the Foot Clan mini series!

So TMNT #5, the Raph micro and the Mikey mirco all take place late December (a few days before Christmas through to NYE)
Just to clean up for the sake of the timeline, These three stories can't take place before Christmas, since Raphael gets his Sai's on Christmas and he has his Sai's in his Micro-Series. Though admittedly I didn't get a very December in New York feeling from the Raphael Micro-Series.

I never said they took place before, I said they take place from a few days before Christmas through to NYE :D
April is leaving on college for winter break in #5 so at absolute latest that's Christmas Eve (which admittedly works best for Raph getting his Sais for Christmas) but more likely few days before that.
The Raph micro then takes place in the week between Christmas and New Year (and I think Bobby admitted they goofed a bit with it not looking like winter back when the issue came out), with the Mikey micro taking place New Years Eve.

Right that was me being completely anal and saying that even the few days before would be pushing it. Though at the time I completely was forgetting that brief April interlude. Still since Christmas was on a Sunday, I could totally see her staying in New York until at least the 23rd especially considering her semi-job at Stocktronics.

Yeah, Friday 23rd sounds as good as any other date. With that in mind, you could even say that by the time Splinter got back to the lair and gave the Turtles their presents it was very early hours of Christmas Eve.

Still need to go back and add in the flashback dates for Fugitoid and 15, but I've updated the timeline with issues 15-16 (Blood Brothers) taking us into February.
I've put the Annual in October for now due to the Halloween reference but that's subject to change depending on events in the main series. Bobby said at one point it was set after 12/before 16 (so basically in the 2 week gap before 15) so I'm thinking it'll move there in the not too distant future, but we'll see how the narrative goes.

Yeah, but Feb is a bit too early to think a guy in a turtle "costume" and a guy in a hockey mask are trick or treaters rather than potential bank robbers or something! :tlol:
It's only a very minor thing, so I've no problem at all moving it back to Bobby's original placement of before 15 which I'm guessing is because the guys may be getting a new lair in 16

I think it's going to be a failing effort to keep individual TMNT issues on a calendar year. It's difficult enough to keep any sort of chronology intact! The only way the Halloween reference makes sense is if 8 or so months passed between Mike Micro/TMNT#5 before #6. #6-12 all happened in a short period of time, and I wouldn't say more than a month or so has passed since #12.
I actually thought about this when I read the Annual script, but it just felt wrong to strike the Halloween reference to keep some sort of hodgepodge dedication to a fictional calendar. I mean, of course we won't bounce around between summer and winter in the middle of a story arc, but generally, with things like micros and annuals... they will have to be looked at with a little bit of seasonal flexibility.
Chris

Thanks for replying Bobby :tgrin:
I think as time goes by and more issues get added I'll have to switch to a much more practical "Year One"/"Year Two" style timeline. To be honest, the fact that we've had 24 issues from multiple writers and this is the first continuity "issue" (and I'm loathe to call it that as it's so minor it's not an issue at all) is an incredible achievement and everyone involved should be proud that they've been able to maintain such a tight continuity without compromising the stories being told and still deliver what is consistently one of the best titles on the shelves.
DrSpengler

I figured it sort of had to fit between #14 and #15 no matter what, considering Casey is only shown staying at the Second Time Around shop and he's punished by Splinter for getting Raph seen on a TV camera.
It seemed to make sense with the whole "adopted by Splinter" thing that happened in #14. And since #15 starts a new arc, it'd have to slot into the narrative break between #14 and #15.
Yeah, the Halloween reference. But like Bobby said (n he'z da boss), you just gotta let comics be comics and ignore hard dates.

Certainly wouldn't be the first time we have a book with set in a debatable/vague point in time, no harm done. Only when there are real continuity bumps in the road is there cause for concern, I say.

Now that some time has passed, I feel tempted to just put each Micro before their respective set-up storyline.
-Casey Micro, #13, #14 (Sins of the Fathers)
-April Micro, #15, #16 (Blood Brothers)
-Fugitoid Micro, #17-20 (Krang War)
I know it's kind of goofy to have some of these issues released already and feel like a bunch that take place in between haven't been released yet, but it just feels cleanest this way to me, so the April issue doesn't leave us hanging for 3 issues before picking it back up. Plus, it restores the Micro numbering order and doesn't place #7 April before #6 Casey. Any continuity flubs I'm overlooking? I know Bobby mentions the continuity note in the issue itself that April takes place between #12-#13, but that might have been because of the timing of the releases more than where it really fits best. I asked him over at the IDW boards to see what he thinks. I know these things can get moved around after some time has passed and we can see the larger work at hand.

I know the main reason the April micro was put where it was was because of the editor's note saying it took place between #12 and #13, and the Casey micro leads directly into #13, so there was no other place to put it. However, if there are no actual contradictions, after #14 is where I will personally put it. The main plot point of the Blood Brothers story arc is that Casey moves in, but if I recall correctly, he's not even in the April micro.
I guess it's premature to say Fugitoid can take place after #16 since it's not out yet, but hopefully it works out!

Sorry for the double post, but Bobby has already replied! Sounds like it has his unofficial blessing. Works for me!
That all sounds reasonable. And your assessment is largely right: I don't want to say an issue takes place in between issues that won't come out for several months, especially when it doesn't make a real difference.
It's especially easy to figure this stuff out AFTER the issues are out... it's easier to see how things could possibly slot in. It's a lot harder to juggle continuity BEFORE the issues come out, and the future ongoing stories are even written.
I'm not thinking about it hard right now, but I don't see any reason why your placement wouldn't work, and i agree it might make things a bit smoother, when reading all of them together.

Sorry Matchy, but I like my way better. Main reason being, #15 refers to Slash's escape from Stockgen as "two weeks ago". Casey micro and Sins of the Father are compact enough to fit in between the April micro and Blood Brothers.
Verdict is still out on Fugitoid, but I'd say right before #17 is just fine. It could really go anywhere between that and #12 since most of it is flashback.

Moved the annual to it's correct placement before 15/16.
Regarding April - I think Matches is right to say that reading the book in arcs then April fits, thematically, before Blood Brothers. But chronologically Nines is right, the original placement between 12 and Casey is correct. All comes down to how you like to read your comics I guess. I'm going to leave the timeline with the chronological version of events, but either way is valid (same for the placement of Fugitoid).

I've moved Krang War from "Upcoming" to Feb 2012 as it follows pretty much straight on from Blood Brothers and Secret History to "Early 2012" as there's no indication how much/little time there is between the two stories (could be days, could be weeks) and I don't want to put a month on it unless it can be worked out/confirmed "in universe".
Also added the 7 issue arc to the "Upcoming" section.

I made sure to link back to this thread and give the proper credit to ToTheNines and Chris for keeping track of things (as well as Bobby for openly answering placement questions).
My version's essentially the same, except that instead of separating the clusters of issues by publication year, I did it around story arcs in the ongoing. For the titles, I used the trade paperbacks as a guide since the issues themselves are untitled.
Inquiries:
Was the 2-issue Slash arc titled "Blood Brothers" or "Brothers in Blood"? I can never remember.
TMNT #5 didn't have a separate title from the other issues in the "Enemies Old, Enemies New" arc, did it?
Any other arc titles I might have overlooked?

Awesome work as always Spengler.
As Snakeweed said, 15-16 was Blood Brothers. Regarding #5 - there was no separate title. The issue works equally well as an epilogue to Change is Constant or as a prologue to Enemies Old, Enemies New. I went with Enemies Old, Enemies New since that's where it's collected, but if you're breaking things up by arc you could just as easily group it with Change is Constant, a break for the first 2 micros, then the 3 part Enemies Old, Enemies New (plus Donatello, Hero Comics, Infestation, etc).
Quick question - how come you moved Fugitoid to between 16 and 17? I know it sets up 17 but I thought it was agreed that chronologically it came between 14 and 15? Just wondering if I missed something and needed to update my timeline!
Just updated my timeline with the Krang micro series. Since Bobby said it acts as an epilogue to Krang War I've put it after 20 (seems like there's a nice gap there with Bobby saying 21/City Fall is a month or 2 after Krang War and Secret History takes place at some point during that gap).

I've always had it right before #17 in mine. The only continuity clue we have is that it takes place after #12, it just seems unnecessary to place it away from Krang War if doesn't have to be.
All we see is Chet walking into a Foot building and looking up at Shredder, so there's nothing that jumps out and places it anywhere specifically.

I moved it because ToTheNines moved it, basically, but i felt his choice was the better one.
And looking back, I think it reads best as a prologue to Krang War (the entire story is basically a flashback and placement isn't set in stone, so it cans till go between #14 and #15, I'm just thinking in terms of how best it reads).
Chris
02-24-2013, 03:27 PM
No worries. I think, thematically, it does fit better just before Krang War, but in terms of strict chronology I still think it takes place between 14 and 15. Just because the dates are really tight between Chet joining Stockgen and April joining as an intern, and the few weeks between Sins of the Father and Blood Brothers could mess that up (I know comic time, have to expect a few things like that, but if its intended release order fits then no need to mess that up by pushing it back).
Plus I kinda like having the Blood Brothers arc between Fugitoid and Krang War. Like having Sins of the Fathers between the April micro and Blood Brothers, it just makes the world feel a little more real as all the related events aren't happening at the same time, other stuff is happening in between.

Probably.
The note inside the Micro #7 cover said it went between #12 and #13. However, Micro #6 ended right where #13 began. So in order to go there, Micro #7 would have to take place before Micro #6.
However, it actually reads better between #14 and #15, I think, as it acts as a prelude to "Blood Brothers" and doesn't require any counterintuitive chronology by having issue #7 take place before issue #6.
I love putting reading orders and chronologies together. I know it probably drives editors up the wall whenever people badger them about continuity and timelines, but I find that sort of stuff fun to work out. Like putting a puzzle together.

I feel you on that. However the flashback designations aren't hard dates, so you can round them without stretching things.
"Fugitoid" placement on either side of Blood Brothers is only like a 3 days difference anyways. The bulk of it takes place within like 1 hour, then the last scene is only the very next day.
Bobby just said over at the IDW Forums that Microseries April is a better fit between TMNT #14 and TMNT #15 despite what his original editor's note on the issue's inside cover said.
Hm. This troubles me.
I know Bobby's the editor, but he even admitted that he didn't quite remember where "April" was supposed to take place. And since he's surely more mentally invested in City Fall and the upcoming villain micro's right now, I'm more inclined to side with his initial thinking in his editor's note on the inside cover.

No one will argue that, but I've done multiple series readthroughs in that original order (April, Casey, 13/14, 15/16) and it flows just fine with "April" coming first. And like Chris said, it makes it feel more "true to life" when related events have other stuff going on in between them.
Plus like I said, #15 states that Slash has been free for 2 weeks. The Casey issue and "Sins of the Father" take place over the course of one night, no more than 2 hours time. They fit right in there easy peasy.

If I remember right, using the dates in Fugitoid (and those in Change is Constant) it works out that Chet joined Stockgen in the same month as April. Little hard to believe but there's nothing to say it didn't happen that way. So Fugitoid has to take place in January or you end up with Chet joining Stockgen after April.
Now this is comics and stuff like that happens but if the dates fit in January then lets go with that.
No real issue. I'd originally used the narrative gap and the "2 weeks" thing to put the annual and Blood Brothers in February since January was looking a little crowded. But pretty much everything up to 13/14 is early January, so the annual, Blood Brothers and Fugitoid could just as easily take place in late Jan.
Hm. This troubles me.

I know what you mean. My gut says to go with his editorial notes from when he was working on the issue. Having looked through the issue again tonight it does work either way. Leave this one up to personal preference and whichever editors note you choose to go with I guess!

The more I think about it, the more I think there's a "best reading order" (where Casey leads into Sins of the Fathers, April leads into Blood Brothers and Fugitoid leads into Krang War) which from the latest comments on the IDW boards seems to be the "official" order, and the originally intended chronological order (April before Casey, Fugitoid in release order between 14/15, etc).
Not sure which approach I'm going to go with to be honest. The new official order doesn't really create any problems as a chronological order, but the thematic groupings does detract a little from the sense of this being a living world for me. I was planning on re-reading everything when Krang War and Secret History were finished, so I'll probably decide then.
DrSpengler
02-25-2013, 06:45 PM
I suppose it really does boil down to preference, as neither placement necessarily contradicts the overall story structure anywhere.
But personally, I like keeping thematic stories together where it's possible, so moving Fugitoid to just before Krang War and April O'Neil to just before Blood Brothers works that out for me. And in the case of April O'Neil, it cleans up the counter intuitiveness of having #7 take place before #6.
But it's up to interpretation and it keeps our different chronologies unique in a way.

Basically when April came out there was an editor's note from Bobby saying it took place between 12 and 13. Because Casey leads directly into 13 that meant that April had to take place before Casey (Micro 7 before Micro 6).
More recently Bobby has said that the issue fits better thematically between 14 and 15.
Nines has kept the original, chronological, order for his timeline in the first post of this thread. DrSpengler prefers the thematic grouping of the stories so his timeline is in the new order.
For my part I've put both orders in my timeline midway down the first page of this thread.
Neither order is wrong, so read them in whichever order you find suits your tastes best.

No worries.
I think the behind the scenes answer is that all those issues were being written around the same time and hadn't all come out so Bobby may have been worried about a possible continuity conflict when he wrote the original note that appears in the micro. Now everything's out and he can look back on it more clearly and there is not conflict having April between 14 and 15 so he's changed his mind about the placement as April serves as a prologue to 14/15.

hey guys, is their any reason as to why the annual fits where it does?
I just read it, and I guess that is a good place for it, but the annual feels forced and somewhat out of place in the current story
you get karai, shredder, savates etc all in there, but it is supposed to be after 14 and appril, but before 15 right?
it does go well in there, I just can't find a link from 14/april to annual to 15
it really seems this annual was more of a "stand alone" story of sorts
what do you guys think about this?
tmnt enitiy states that this story contines from #14
DrSpengler

The Annual is a completely standalone story, so it's going to fit a little strangely no matter where you put it. I think it's fine where it is, as it drops into a clean narrative break between two arcs.

Hey guys, I was just wondering... I was reading micro-series #3 Donatello, and it says Baxter Stockman used Don as an experiment. Then it shows with an asterisks "see the ongoing TMNT - Ed". Can someone please tell me what issue that happens? Online it said that the main story arc issue #6 chronologically comes right before micro series #3 Donatello. And the Donatello issue follows right after. When does this Baxter/Donatello confrontation take place in the timeline? -thanks

It was referring to the origin, when the Turtles were experiments at Stockgen (seen in TMNT #1-2). The two characters don't have a "confrontation" until the Don micro.
As for the chronology, #6 is a standalone issue, so the Don micro could conceivably go before or after it (I place it after, personally).

The ongoing is up to #22 and the Villain Micro-Series is up to #2, both of which are accounted for in the timeline, so I'd say it's up to date with the current progress of the IDW comics. (and a bit ahead of the curve, as ongoing #23 and Villain Micro-Series #3 are already accounted for via editorial statements at the IDW forums)

was it stated anywhere specifically that the Alopex micro takes place between 23 & 24? I know the foot deserters at the beginning have a City Fall vibe, but that thread goes back all the way to the Savate being introduced in the single digit issues. Just seems strange that Shredder would take a trip to Alaska amid the building tensions - I've done that flight before and it is no picnic. :P How's
He going to seize New York when overcome with jetlag?! It would also play Alopex as a stronger character if she'd been plotting against Shredder for longer, biding her time for the best opportunity to take him out.

Shredder going off and doing stuff in the middle of City Fall is a little strange. But Alopex's Micro is almost a complete sidestory, so placement is a little loose. I just figured Shredder was keeping himself occupied while Kitsune was brainwashing Leo.
It *could* take place between TMNT #21 and TMNT #22, but I dunno. Alopex's promotion as Chunin doesn't seem to really be on display in #22 (she's as much a henchwoman in #22 as she's always been).
But if it goes between #21 and #22 then we get into the counterintuitive situation where Villains Micro #4 takes place before Villains Micro #3 and aren't they trying to avoid that?

I wonder if her role will seemingly change at all other than the name of her rank. I'm unfamiliar with what being "Chunin" entails. Is Karai Chunin? Higher? She seems to be mostly just a henchman as well.
But if it goes between #21 and #22 then we get into the counterintuitive situation where Villains Micro #4 takes place before Villains Micro #3 and aren't they trying to avoid that?
probably. maybe I'm still thinking in terms of scattered puzzle-piece Mirage continuity. This IDW stuff is too straightforward - give me some headaches here guys! ;P
If Shredder really wanted to make Alopex a Chunin (2nd in command), it would make a lot more sense, if this whole stuff is happened before he said to Karai in #8, that he wants Leo as a 2nd in command. It just doesn't fits into the middle of the City Fall arc.
Sure, they're talking about that a big war is on, but that's already been said by the dying Savate in #6. Btw, Raphael Micro (debut of Alopex and also human Bebop & Rocksteady who appear in the Alopex micro) is between #5 and #6 chronologically.
So, imo Alopex micro is between #7 and #8.

I'm going to re-read everything with Alopex in it soon before I make a call on it. However, you're a little bit off, Tazi. Shredder tells Karai he wants Leo as his second in command in #14, not #8. Karai didn't even debut until #9.
Also, I could be wrong, but I don't believe that Chunin necessarily means "second in command". It's just another rank up.

Regarding placement for the Alopex micro, Bobby Curnow was generous enough to humor me and give a thorough answer. (http://forum.idwpublishing.com/viewtopic.php?t=10128&start=2220)
He votes for between TMNT #21 and TMNT #22.
I think she was always of a higher rank than your average Foot soldier. "special assassin" maybe? I wouldn't know what the correct terminology would be. But she's never been a grunt.
But Alopex micro definitely doesn't happen a long time ago, like around #12, I would have specified that if that were intended to be the case.
So when does it happen, actually? That is a good question. As you'll see in TMNT #24, not much in-story time has passed between #23 and #24. I think it's maaybe possible Shredder and Alopex could have made a quick 24 hour excursion in that time (and Alopex, not knowing the plans for Leo, would still imagine him as an enemy during that first fight).
However, that all is a bit of a stretch. It's unlikely that Shredder would take the time at that exact moment to make the excursion to Alaska.
Here's what we do know: Alopex makes mention of things heating up, war-wise, and that's why those renegade Foot soldiers at the start are selling Foot secrets. Shredder also says things are getting worse, and they need to consolidate resources (the supposed reason for going to Alaska) So i'd definitely put Alopex after the TMNT Annual, when Victor takes control of the Savate and things between them and the Foot get worse.
But when exactly? I'm preferring not to officially identify— it's one of those things where the exact timing isn't crucial... but if pressed to identify a spot, i'd tentatively say before #22, as #22 -#24 all take place over a short period of time, a few days or so. So let's say between #21 & #22, for the time being.
Phew, long answer!
ToTheNines

Works for me. Like I said on the IDW boards, it makes sense for Shredder to want to pool his resources and get ready for war with Kitsune up and at 'em.

Based on Bobby Curnow saying that the Alopex micro fits in chronologically between #21 and #22, I'm more inclined to think a theory I have is right
The Alopex micro takes place at some point soon after the events in issue #21, the prologue to City Fall (really, it could take place at the same time, since they're in totally different places. All that matters is that the events in the Alopex micro take place before City Fall properly begins). In the first three issues of City Fall, only a few hours have passed so far. When the turtles arrive back at their home after realizing Leo is missing, the message from Hob is already on their wall. That means Hob already knew the events that were going to transpire. It seems to me that Alopex and Hob have formed some kind of arrangement. I think Alopex has become disenchanted by the whole Foot Clan, not just the Shredder, and has decided to ally herself with the other mutants. That seems to me to be the only way Hob could've found out everything he knows. I think in the future we may see Hob, Slash and Alopex (and possibly other mutants) form a kind of mutant/animal-rights team.

I'd say the Kitsune issue chronologically fits at the beginning of City Fall, but thematically fits where they've published it.

So after reading #26 and seeing that the last scene of #25 leads directly into it (the Foot brass on the rooftop with binoculars), that means "Hun" has to take place in between the "No more!" page and the last couple pages of #25.
Doesn't mess up the previous reading order, but worth noting.

#25 ends with them loading into a helicopter talking about attacking the Savate, and #26 opens with them jumping out of helicopters and attacking the Savate.
While it's possible that they flew away and came back a month later, I think it's more plausible to just say that there is a month time skip within the pages of #25.

Yeah, but Hun micro shows him beating up some Savate totally seperately. They're looking in Savate HQ in #25, from a roof across the way, then we see the helicopters flying in from farther away in #26. #25 was recon, #26 the attack. But again, all that stuff doesn't really have much to do with the Hun micro.

Ok. I just re-read #25, and it definitely is not the same night as #26. I also see what you mean with it taking place between #25 and #27. Everything in flashbacks through the confrontation with Angel is before #26, and the rest of the issue is after.

UTROM EMPIRE
TMNT: Utrom Empire #1 (review)
TMNT: Utrom Empire #2 (review)
TMNT: Utrom Empire #3 (review)
NORTHAMPTON
TMNT #29 (review)
TMNT #30 (review)
X-Files: Conspiracy - TMNT #1 (review)
TMNT #31 (review)
TMNT #32 (review)
Bobby just mentioned where X-Files: Conspiracy takes place, though I'm guessing on Utrom Empire (it doesn't feature the TMNT, right? Just Baxter, Krang and the Fugitoid, etc?).

According to Curnow on the IDW Forums:
Utrom Empire takes place during Northampton. You'll see some of the Turtles at the farm in the pages of Utrom Empire. (Technically Utrom Empire #1 takes place within the pages of TMNT #29... the notebook Don is reading at night at the end of #29 comes from the pages of Utrom Empire.)
So far as reading order goes, between "City Fall" and "Northampton" seems like the best place to slot it rather than stagger the issues out between chapters of the ongoing.

I have Utrom Empire (at least #1) taking place in between #29 and #30. That scene in UE with Don and Mike in NH has to be post #29.
EDIT: It has to be within the pages of 29, since the last scene shows Don reading Honeycutt's notes.

So far I wouldn't mind putting Utrom Empire between #29 and #30. According to Mikey's letter, there's a week break between the two issues. From a storytelling perspective that feels like a more natural place to scene wipe to the villains for a bit before returning to the heroes with a week passed rather than going heroes fleeing NY > cut to villains > immediate fallout from City Fall for the heroes > Week break > Next issue for the heroes. And if you look at the earlier arcs, there's plenty of precedence for side stories like the micros and Infestation filling in time periods during the looser story arcs.
If there's a break in time between #30 and #31 (which the placement of Conspiracy suggests), that might be a good spot for Utrom Empire too. Maybe there's a few days between Koya finding the family and the arrival of Foot backup. It'll be hard to say for sure until #33 comes out and we know 1) how much downtime there is during the Northhampton arc and 2) how much time there is between Northhampton and the next arc. For all we know at this point #32 could a cliffhanger leading directly to #33.

hey guys,
For my own benefit, I was looking on the last year of continuity. I think Villain Micro #4: Alopex, fits best after #24. So the following read order:
TMNT #24
Alopex
Karai
TMNT#25
My thinking is that Alopex is pretty readily participating in the actions of #22, and #23/24 happen shortly after that. There is a period of time between #24 and #25, where the events of the Alopex micro could plausibly take place (traveling to Alaska), and in #25, we see her start to question the Foot with Karai, something that would make sense to happen shortly after the events of her Micro.
Anyone see any reason that I might be missing that contradicts that placement?

It does seem to flow better thematically since, as you said, Alopex doesn't start questioning the Foot in the ongoing series until #25, so when reading chronologically the narrative feels tighter.
The trip to Alaska is a bit of a side story/diversion from the gang wars, but with Shredder already delegating so much of that work to his various underlings, I don't think it's too out of the question for him to find the time to make a day-trip. And with the whole point of that trip being to test Alopex's resolve as a potential Chunin, it does tie into what he was up to during the events of City Fall.
And aside from all that, it solves the counterintuitive problem of placing Villain Micro #4 *before* Villains Micro #3.
So hey, sounds good. Updated the timeline at TMNT Entity accordingly (http://tmntentity.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-idw-tmnt-continuity-timeline.html) (as well as updating the placement of Utrom Empire re; Northampton).

In Conspiracy he says that April was online, not himself. And he repeats as much in #31. Although... Conspiracy doesn't really jive with Leo's story arc at all. Its status of being canon or not is iffy.

You do two books per bag too? It actually works out better, since Old Hob share a bag with #23 and they take place concurrently. I can be OCD sometimes lol.

Yeah, I just chaulked the continuity errors up as irreconcilable.
X-Files/TMNT can't take place "during" #31 because of April's haircut. She has the long hair in X-Files/TMNT and reveals her new short do' on page 11 of #31. X-Files/TMNT can't take place between pages 10 and 11 of #31 because not enough time is passing (April is at the library while Don and Casey work on the motorcycle and Splinter gives Leo his blue bandana back).
There just isn't any "no prize" to reconcile the discontinuity. It is what it is.

Kinda wish they would have just done Conspiracy with no bandana on Leo. I know they try to be easy on potential new readers for these crossovers, but that might be just the kind of thing that makes them curious enough to pick up the main ongoing.
Either way. Infestation 2 has never been mentioned since its printing, so it's not a big deal to skip this one.
Toby Barrett
02-27-2014, 09:14 AM
Personally, I just don't read these crossovers as part of continuity. Infestation completely broke up the flow of Enemies Old, Enemies New, and this one is just riddled with continuity problems.
Just easier for me to consider them "extra" stories that don't really mean anything in the end.
DrSpengler
02-27-2014, 09:22 AM
They certainly seem to be written as "optional", which is why the main narrative never references them. They're just supposed to be fun diversions and that's perfectly cool.
Infestation 2: TMNT, in my opinion, was a great little story and with "Enemies Old, Enemies New" starting out with some disjoined one-shots, I didn't think it disrupted the story flow any more than inserting the Micros where they belong between chapters.
The Conspiracy one-shot, though, was just a mess that I'd sooner ignore, personally. So to each their own when it comes to these crossover events (which is a nice luxury, when you think about it).
Joey Kamikaze
02-27-2014, 02:43 PM
Yeah, I like Infestation 2 because it keeps the spotlight on Don after his micro and it makes sense for there to be a little break between issues while Hob's trying to find the Turtle lair. The heavy emphasis on continuity in the IDW book has meant there aren't a lot of one-off adventures in this universe. Not to mention it was just a plain fun story. Personally I feel like it fit pretty well into the ongoing series.
Conspiracy... I could take it or leave it. It feels like a "just because" cross-over.

Finally got to this batch of issues, and I'd say this placement makes enough sense for the meat of the Alopex issue, but if I'm nitpicking it probably works best as a pre-City Fall issue.
Mainly because Alopex is sure to bring a katana for her opponent and envision herself fighting Leonardo with the rest of the turtles in the opening sequence as well as on the last page. Granted, it's super easy to ignore, but if you think about it... it doesn't make sense considering Dark Leo had made his debut in #24.
Also, the longer Alopex was plotting Shredder's demise, the cooler she is.
Opinions?
Joey Kamikaze
03-09-2014, 12:10 AM
Just finished my re-read of the series thus far a couple hours ago. It's getting to be quite the undertaking. :tgrin:
I agree the Alopex micro seems fine between #24 and #25 except for the bit about the katana/Leo. That stuck out to me too. I'd say it still works because the katana is such a "default" ninja weapon (at least in comics), except she specifically imagines pre-Foot Leo wielding it. Maybe Alopex is as accepting of Leo's place in the Foot as Karai seems to be. She does express annoyance to Karai about them having become second-stringers to Shredder's new chunin...
Still, I'm satisfied the current placement. It keeps the issues in numerical order... which might be picky of me, but I like that. It also puts the Karai and Alopex micros back to back where I feel they work together thematically--here's Shredder's two most powerful allies outside Kitsune, and they're both rebelling against him in their own ways, both doing so because of Shredder's hubris and disregard for other people/lifeforms... and during the aftermath of Shredder's biggest victory at that point in the series (turning Leo to the Foot). But it could go in either spot and admittedly if it was Villains #3 instead of #4 I might be more apt to place it between #21 and #22.

Okay... Now that Utrom Empire is complete I'm wondering about bagging/reading order. Call me a nerd.
The first two issues and most of #3 seem to happen concurrently with the Northampton arc. I was happy putting it after #29 or #30. However, the very end of #3 seems to take place slightly after #32. Which throws a wrench in the works because the story on Burnow Island takes place over the course of a night and (in #3) the morning after.
So basically... does most of Utrom Empire take place during the night before #31-32, with the morning after being the same day Koya attacks and the turtles leave Northampton?

All of the current day events on Burnow Island take place around or right before TMNT #32. However the Turtle pages from Utrom Empire take place earlier— they are not happening at the same time as the Burnow island sequences. We're just telling that aspect of the story at the same time, because it makes the most sense to tell them in the context of Utrom Empire.
It doesn't fit perfectly due to this story telling method, but i'd put Utrom Empire #1 & 2 between TMNT #30 and #31, and then Utrom #3 after TMNT #32.

I'm really happy with everything I'm reading. I still need to pick up #32. Can't wait! That would be awesome if you print my letter in the back of the next issue with the others! Just saying! Anyways, great work!

Well, here was how I spaced it out over on my reading order at TMNT Entity (http://tmntentity.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-idw-tmnt-continuity-timeline.html).
TMNT #29
Utrom Empire #1
TMNT #30
Utrom Empire #2
X-Files/TMNT: Conspiracy #1
Utrom Empire #3
TMNT #31
TMNT #32
My rationale for some of the placement:
*As Bobby said, the Burnow Island stuff takes place whenever, but it's cut off from the TMNT's narrative save for that e-mail at the end. I'm looking at this in regards to the TMNT's pages in Utrom Empire.
*TMNT #29 ends with Don reading the Fugitoid's journal. He finds the journal in Utrom Empire #1, so Utrom Empire #1 has to take place during TMNT #29.
*Utrom Empire #2 has Don, Raph and Mike just chilling in the barn, so it has to occur before TMNT #31. I put it before Conspiracy, but that's just me.
*Utrom Empire #3 features the TMNT at two different points in their storyline. Page 15 has them chilling in the barn, so it has to be before TMNT #31. Pages 20-22 has them leaving Northampton (and April has her short hair) so those pages have to be after TMNT #32.
That's just how I have it mapped out. The timeline in Utrom Empire is on three different threads (Utrominon, Burnow Island, Northampton) so there isn't a perfect way to just divvy the issues out between the ongoing installments, obviously.
If IDW ever releases an omnibus in a "suggested reading order" as they have with their Transformers comics, I'd recommend having "Northampton" come first and then follow it with "Utrom Empire".

TMNT #29
Utrom Empire #1
TMNT #30
Utrom Empire #2
X-Files/TMNT: Conspiracy #1
Utrom Empire #3
TMNT #31
TMNT #32
I currently have:
TMNT #29
Utrom Empire #1
Utrom Empire #2
TMNT #30
Conspiracy: TMNT #1
TMNT #31
TMNT #32
Utrom Empire #3
I put UE 1-2 between 29 and 30 because there is at least a week gap (probably longer) between them. Also, #31 seems to take place the next day since Raph and Alopex are still getting to know each other, Alopex was absent from the Turtle's scene in UE #2, and Koya's reinforcements wouldn't take too long.
*Utrom Empire #3 features the TMNT at two different points in their storyline. Page 15 has them chilling in the barn, so it has to be before TMNT #31. Pages 20-22 has them leaving Northampton (and April has her short hair) so those pages have to be after TMNT #32.
No argument there, but I think final scene should take the cake as far as placing the issue chronologically. Like you said, suggested reading order should be Northampton before Utrom Empire, so I have the UE finale after the NH finale.

I'm guessing that the 2014 Annual and the Turtles in Time mini-series take place after the current arc (Monsters, Misfits, and Madmen, #33-#36), possibly during issue #37, since the focus of that issue seems like its going to be Krang and Shredder meeting up (and likely plotting to sabotage each other :trolleye:)
I think they will share the Earth between them 50/50 or something like.
That would explain some of the things in Shredder micro.

I feel like the Turtles would mention their wild adventure through time at least once in passing to either Casey, April, or Angel at some point in issues #33, #34, #35 or #36. That's kind of the thing you share with your buddies

Maybe it will make sense when the annual comes out?The annual was supposed to come out first and it introduces Renet to the IDW universe. She originated in Mirage's TMNT vol. 1 #8 back in the day. Long story short, she has power over space and time but tends to be a bit klutzy in her duties sometimes.
That said, Turtles In Time #1 begins in media res, and the turtles are just as confused as the rest of us. They don't know how they got transported to prehistoric times either. It's not a direct continuation of the annual.
I don't think there's any official word yet on where the upcoming annual and Turtles In Time fits into the chronology. My hunch is both will slot in after #36 unless they retroactively slide the annual in before #33, which feels increasingly unlikely thanks to the annual's delays.

Bobby has said that due to it being a Time Travel story, the Turtles will arrive back home from their Time Travel Adventures within seconds of when they left, which essentially means it could fit anywhere.
However, all of the Turtle minis to date, even though they stand on their own, usually tie into the main ongoing in some way, and after just reading the preview for #2, I would say that since a certain thing hasn't been addressed on panel yet in the ongoing, I would guess the whole Turtles in Time thing will take place in the timeline in a future issue.

We haven't had any untitled issues yet. The one other standalone issue was just labeled as a prologue, so maybe this upcoming issue will be either an epilogue or prologue

The last arc mostly dealt with Casey's portion of the fallout from City Fall while setting up whatever's coming next for the overall mythos through a few semi-standalone stories. My guess is #37 sets up the whole Shredder/Krang thing going forward for the next year in another semi-standalone, then we're pretty much on the story arc express again until #50 (which I'm assuming will be the big event with the Technodrome). So yeah, it's probably a prelude to that like #21 was a prelude to City Fall.

According to Bobby (http://boards.idwpublishing.com/3/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=10128&p=374392#p374392) the next arc is called "Territory".
I updated my timeline, though I still don't know where Turtles in Time is supposed to slot. I've got it sitting between "Monsters, Misfits and Madmen" and "Territory" for now, but it's always susceptible to change.

Yeah, i'd like people's input on this after the Annual comes out (next week, I believe!) as I may be missing something other eyes can catch, but I see the Annual taking place shortly before #33 (there's some references to the Turtles being newly returned to NYC), and Turtles in Time taking place at about the same time as #37. As #37 is all Shredder and Krang, that's an easy place to assign Turtles in Time happening.
How is the one-shot story called with Shredder/Krang? Territory: Prelude?
Hopefully we will have Annual 2014 this month so we will know when all the time traveling happens.
It's a funny thing: Time traveling and chronology, obviously you don't wanna go literally, and put the prehistoric issue before everything else. ;)

After reading the Annual, my chronology/bagging order for the past year goes:
Northhampton (#29-32)
Utrom Empire #1-3 (more or less coincides with #31-32)
Annual 2014 (bridges gap of return to NY)
Monsters, Misfits & Madmen (#33-36)
Turtles In Time #1-4 (more or less coincides with #37)
Territory (#37- )

08-21-2014, 02:18 AM

Annual
33-36+ Whatever happens at Harolds and Hob's in the upcoming issues
Then Turtles in Time when they return to the lair, with 37 in between.

Honestly I'm not happy with any of the chronology after Northampton/Utrom Empire. That honestly seems like the most rational arrangement, at least from what I can tell as a reader and not someone in the know.
Northampton was a definite ending/beginning point for a new direction.
Annual 2014 opens with the characters discussing their return to New York and the various measures they've taken for security since coming back.
MMM (heh.) likewise features the characters freshly back and in the swing of things.
TiT (HEH.) opens in medias res and isn't finished yet, so I dunno anything for certain, but it seems like it could fit in anywhere after Annual 2014. And with #37 having no Turtles in it, it makes sense that they're spending that time off on some crazy adventure in a miniseries.
It works for me, anyway.

^Same, with Utrom Empire in-between Northampton and the annual for reading purposes, which is how I'd suggest doing it in the omnibus someday. On re-reads the two stories work better read complete back to back rather than jumping from Northampton issues to UE issues and back again even if that's technically how the chronology works IMO. In retrospect, Northampton puts the cap on "City Fall," while most of the turtle appearances in UE tie into Donatello's subplot in MM&M (and presumably onward for a while); NH was epilogue, UE was prologue.

The annual makes sense before MMM because of Leonardo and Raph's conversation about what Splinter wants to do about the Foot. Then they talk about it in 36 Leo has his epiphany.
As for 37 and TiT, I think they read better with 37 coming first due to the last page of 36. Unless TiT #4 helps add to the suspense of what happens between Shredder and Krang (doubtful), it just makes more sense.
I know it looks cleaner when separating them by arc to keep 37 with Territory, but I'm just gonna lean toward reading order on this one.
Joey Kamikaze
09-10-2014, 03:30 PM
#37 feels like it goes before TiT for reading because Shredder was preparing for the meeting in MM&M. What's more, it marks kind of the "official" start of the Shredder vs. Krang showdown, and my guess based on the solicit is TiT #4 plays out a possible future outcome of that conflict (where Shredder wins?) and thus works better read after #37 anyway.
Of course I could be proven completely wrong when it comes out. :D

I have just started collecting the series of comics. Can I ask is there any difference in covers A, B or C? I mean apart from they are different cover I mean in rarity and value, number of copies etc
Mayhem
12-21-2014, 05:18 AM
Yes.
Longer answer. In the early days of the TMNT run, the A cover was standard, the B cover was 1:5 rarity (you had to buy five copies of A to get one copy of B). I think IDW stopped that after about 12 issues, so now A and B are both the same rarity.
Past that, most of the other covers are 1:10 and 1:25 rarity (retailer incentives). Some are only available to comic shops that have subscriptions with Diamond (the subscriber covers). Some have only been released by specific comic stores (retailer exclusives). Some have only been available to buy at certain conventions, and those tend to be the hardest to find.
Your best guide is Rich's blog imo, if you want to find the details of a particular issue and what covers are available for it.

Just made a minor change, but I noticed that Utrom Empire #2 flows better after #30. Don and Leo have their talk after he wakes up from his dream of Tang Shen and he gives Don his "one step at a time" advice in #30, then Don, exasperated over the Technodrome, repeats it in UE #2 to Raph.
Not sure if it was intentional or not, but it works great between #30 & #31.

Mutanimals starts on the same night, but they at least had the drive home. So for now I'm just putting Mutanimals #1 after #44. Technically I could put them next to each other with a slash in between like I do for concurrent issues but there's no real reason here.
this is where the distinction between chronology and best reading order becomes important. its not crucial, but understanding the difference helps avoid confusion
I think the best reading order, as already stated, is to read the entire Mutanimals mini-series after the Attack on Technodrome arc is concluded, issue #44, but chronologically Mutanimals #1 takes place at roughly the same time as #44, and the rest of the Mutanimals mini-series likely takes place in the few days immediately after their rescue of MM from the Null lab

Hi guys. Two questions.
1) The only Infestation stuff I have other than tmnt 1+2 is the ones that are just labeled Infestation #1+2. So these were part of the overall infestation 2 storyline, but not tied to the tmnt per se. I also do not have any of the other franchises issues involved with the Infestation story because, well, I don't particularly care about any of them other than TMNT. My question is.....the continuity written down here doesn't mention Infestation 1+2 at all. Just Infestation TMNT 1+2. Am I to assume those 2 issues I have do not matter at all? Can they fit in the IDW continuity? If so....where? TIA guys!
2) Similar question. The X-Files Conspiracy 6-part series. I am a big x-files fan. I have heard that the Conspiracy thing was generally disliked....but still....do the 6 issues fit in there somewhere? If so....where please?
I'm asking these questions because I have been collecting this IDW series since it first came out and have NEVER read a single issue. I know, I'm weird like that. But I want to start very soon...I just REALLY want to read every single thing in exact correct reading order. Thanks for reading my mini-novel guys!

Infestation #1-2 does not really have anything to do with the TMNT issues. You can skip them. I believe Spengler reviewed then at TMNTEntity if you want a run down though.
Conspiracy does tie into the Northampton arc but has a couple of continuity errors. However if you read the whole thing you'll see that the whole thing was rendered non canon to pretty much all franchises involved. Still worth a read if you're an X Files guy.

ToTheNines got it.
Infestation 2 #1-2 are pretty much unconnected, at least from the POV of the TMNT Infestation 2 issues.
The Turtles appear in one panel in a montage in Infestation 2 #1 and only on the cover of Infestation 2 #2. You really don't need those issues, not even for narrative purposes (TMNT Infestation 2 #1-2 can be read completely isolated from the other Infestation 2 issues and you wouldn't know they were supposed to be connected).
And yeah, X-Files Conspiracy: TMNT is full of continuity errors, but it doesn't matter anyway because the Conspiracy miniseries had a weird time reboot thing that made the whole miniseries and all its crossovers "not happen".
Likewise, the bookending X-Files Conspiracy #1-2 don't feature the Turtles aside from a small picture of one on a newspaper in #1 and not at all in #2 (not even a cover).

Thank God for this thread, ad thank you for the contribution everyone!
I just started reading again (after a long hiatus) and there's so many plots. Re-reading them again from the start in proper flow would be great!

So um, is 50 like the last issue for this run?
No, just the culmination of the original plot threads the IDW creative team outlined at the beginning of the series. The series will continue on with issue #51 with some new plot threads that have slowly been introduced in the first 50 issues

No. 50 was how far the writers at IDW planned out this universe. The run was essentially planned out to #50. Tom and crew has said they at this point have storylines and plots planned up to issue 90 or so.

Just mixed around the recent issues.
I have 45 and Mutanimals running concurrently since they're not long at all after Donnie's death. Then the rest of Mutanimals has to be after #47 since this conflict with Hun is still on the same night and Mutanimals #2 begins on the morning after.
The cover for 47 looks like continuity might get a little messy, with Hob aiding Hun and all. Hopefully there's some sort of time jump, or Hob doesn't actually appear in 47 (the Santolouco covers for Vengeance haven't all been issue specific, so that's possible.)

I Ctrl+F'd the previous pages for April and Casey - does anyone know where that should fall on the timeline yet?

Bobby indicated at the IDW forums that #47 would set it up. It evidently got published before it's split off point in the ongoing, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah, we know it's post-47, but that's it. The first panel is probably the morning after the fight with Hun, but it's like a 3 or 4 day trip to AZ/CA, so the main story is most likely taking place during or right after the rest of Vengeance.
Gonna wait and see for now so as to not make an unnecessary mess of the list right now.

What is "A Lot to Learn?" I read a description on TMNT entity but I'm still a bit confused. Is it a complete book? How can I find it?

It's a short story printed in a collection of other short stories, the 30th anniversary special. Every few pages was a new tale taking place in the various TMNT comic universes, Mirage, Archie, IDW, etc.

I think Casey & April mini series is before #50.
Didn't they left during/before Donnie's comma? Because of Rat King's comment about Donnie "being a shell of his former self"?
And where does The X-Files crossover placed in the timeline?

Yeah, Casey & April has been concurrent with the latter half of "Vengeance." I expect we'll see Casey & April back in the main book post-#50.
The X-Files crossover isn't canon. If it was, it would take place during "Northampton," but it contains several continuity errors and the events of the X-Files crossover essentially wiped out all the crossovers retroactively at the end. So don't worry about it. :p

I hear ya, I have all my issues in reading order in the box for when I go back through them. Also, Dr. Spengler has a nifty list of all the issues in chronological order here (http://tmntentity.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-idw-tmnt-continuity-timeline.html).

Well they left the same night that the Stockman swarm was unleashed, and it's about a 2 day trip to California (and that's giving them no hotel stops, no traffic, and very few food stops, breaking the speed limit the whole way), and the Showdown in 50 is also the same night.
So while C&A kicks off right after 47, the bulk of the story is post Vengeance.
And when did Rat King ever address Donatello?

While I haven't read #50 yet...

Basically, this.
We see April and Casey leaving for their trip in #47. A car-trip from New York to California is LONG. As ToTheNines pointed out, a 2-day estimate would be very generous and that's if they were singlemindedly booking it.
#48-50 all take place on the same night that April and Casey left, so none of those issues can happen after the Casey & April mini.
The only reason I wedged Casey & April #1 between #47 and #48 is because that issue had a prologue showing them leaving New York on the night of the invasion as seen in #47.
As always with these supplementary minis, even if their events can be distributed around issues of the ongoing, they're best read all at once after the main arcs they're written to complement.
I kinda hate having it the way I do, with the issues spread out, as it's a chronological order over a reading order, but I can't have it both ways so eh.

While the first page takes place straight outta 47, the rest of the book is the following day, so I just put it with the rest since 1 flows directly into 2.

As far as I try to keep myself out of spoilers, I recently got most of the volumes this far and I'm reading them acording to this thread timeline.
Thank you so much guys for all the chronology info here. Unfortunately there are no threads to discuss the volumes so I'll have to catch you up and leave coments later: it's impossible for me to get the volumes any sooner and I'm not getting the issues one by one...
Right now I'm done with Northampton and heading to volume 10, so another lot of comics should be orderer soon to keep good track of all storylines.
I'm loving these series as much as I thought I would, only thing that bugs me is I can't discuss it with you guys in real time. I hate so much living in Europe when it comes to this... :(

You know, if y'all who are new to the book want to make a topic for re-reads/first-timers, you'd probably get some of us in there talking to you about it. It's been a while since I re-read a lot of the older story arcs too. And I get the impression a lot of people have hopped on the book in the past six months/year.

I actually would like to know is a Utrom Empire #4 is on the works and therefore a subsecuent Volume.
It would make absolute sense acording to Turtles in Time and April & Casey beeing also released as a volume.
Also, when is Vol 13 coming out?
Cant afford to get all single issues and volumes are a very good alternative, but don't wanna pay for shipping and stuff right before the next main plot volume comes out...
BTW, I'm freaking loving this series. Secret Story of the Foot Clan is GOLD.

So in issue 51...
When April says to Leo "it's been a long month." Is that our hint that the TMNT have been running the foot for about that long? It didn't seem like that was the first time Harold had seen Don "in the flesh" given his attitude. So short timeskip then?

That was my impression. It seems to have been at least a couple weeks since #50. Considering everything from #41-50 + the Mutanimals and Casey & April micros happened over the course of a couple-few days, the book was probably due a time jump.

I've been ordering all the TPBs from Amazon which you can find by searching "idw teenage mutant ninja turtles". There is a list of them all on the wiki:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_%28IDW_Publishing%29# Collected_editions
I also just picked up the Annual 2012 and 2014 Deluxe editions from Amazon since they were never collected with anything else as far as I know, but those are hardcovers.

The annuals are basically TPB's themselves, that's why they aren't collected with anything else.
I think they will be included in those new deluxe hardcovers though.
