View Full Version : Do you think they will do a dreaded clip-show?

All TMNT TV shows have had a clip-show episode.
The OT had the episode "Blast from the Past" in Season 3, which basically was a clip show of the origin. The 4kids series had "Reflections" from Season 2 which was a clip show. Next Mutation had 2 clip show episodes.
Will this show do one as well?

I hate clip-shows, so I hope not, but I actually enjoyed "Blast from the Past". It was neat hearing Leo say all those famous Splinter lines.

Power Rangers recently had two clip shows forming two of the three "special" episodes aired in the fall. Not sure if that was on Nick's orders though.

I honestly don't understand why, in this age of season sets on home video, clip shows even exist.
I'd honestly rather have Splinter look at the camera in the middle of a fight scene and say "Hey boys and girls! Go buy season 1 on DVD at your nearest Toys R Us!", than put up with a clip show episode.

O_O DON'T BE GIVING NICK ANY IDEAS!! :x

Eh... Nick should just make a Youtube video and advertise the link to it on occasion.
Problem solved.

Not unless the show gets DEEP into its run. The show had barely been on for a year by the time "Reflections" aired. "Blast From the Past" was OK, but it was still fairly early in the OT's run. The clip show should be at LEAST three seasons after the basis for the source episodes first aired; as by that point, all but the die hards will clearly remember the events of those source episodes, and makes for a great time to reflect. But having a secondary conflict like in "Blast From the Past" is what I'd like to see to spice up such episode.

Maybe it's because my only memories of clip shows are from The Simpsons, but I don't get the hatred.
Simpsons clip shows work because there are just so many jokes per episode, it makes sense to put things with a similar theme from different episodes together.

Yeah, I love The Simpsons clip shows. As for TMNT, "Reflections" wasn't that bad for me. I liked it because it helped people catch up for those who probably hadn't been watching. But for this one, I'd rather wait until it gets deep in its run before they do something like that.

Maybe that can do a flashback like the did with Avatar: The Last Airbender. It could be like " Previously, on TMNT..."

Clip shows aren't that bad. I wouldn't mind if they make one for the new series, but it has to be well into the series. Maybe by the end of season two.
Ep 1 should be a clip-show.

Gargoyles did this, every episode... well almost every episode. The had the whole "Previously on Gargoyles..." then clips from any episode that pertained to the new episode. It was a mini clip show every week... well almost every week.

Yes, I remember watching that show on youtube. I wouldn't mind if they did that for the show, that way people are up to date in a few seconds, then we head straight into the episode. But only for the ones that focus on the main storyline.
I think all of TMNT's clipshows have been fairly well handled, the one in the OT had a nice story to implement the origin. TNM had two fun clipshows, one serves as a tribute to the character Venus and the other is a collection of Leo/Raph rivalry which is neat knowing in most media they don't get along very well. The 2k3 one is probably the weakest one but it's still isn't terrible. Now I'd rather not have a clip show but I'm just saying TMNT doesn't have a bad track record.
As far as to why clipshows are made, I've read from people in charge of Drawn Together and Power Rangers explaining that they have a certain amount of money per season and a number of episodes they have to make with it. So sometimes they make the decision to blow their budget in one episode and make it more spectacular only to make up for it by getting "rid" of one episode by making it a clip show. Is it a good idea? Who knows but you have a trade off, one where they have more resources into making that one episode have the budget it deserves or even the money out for each episode.

Like it or not, yes, probably.
The secret is, there's only about ten minutes of new animation in this series-the rest is clips from every previous show and movie, with numerous puppet shows and dry readings of comics by Kevin Clash...(in his Elmo voice). ;)

You better believe there will be a clip show. They are huge money and time savers for the companies, that's why they do them.
They usually make one if they are getting overloaded and need to buy themselves some time.

I decided to watch Blast from the Past after seeing this thread.
Leonardo's narration is almost word for word what was said in the pilot episode. They couldn't change it up a little?
As a kid I always wondered what happened to the other punks in Bebop and Rocksteady's gang, like the dude with the mohawk.

"Blast from the Past," I'm more forgiving, because there was an actual plot, even if poorly done. ("Raph is in danger, so why is Mike wasting time to talk about Krang?") Whereas, "Reflections" is full-on recapping, albeit with some nice banter. The ending is well worth it, when compared to the format.
Yeah, I wondered about the other punks, too, especially as the mohawk guy had a good lizard mutant design. Why couldn't we have seen more of them? Strange how we never saw them again after "Splintered." (I'm not counting Turtles Forever, though, it was nice to see the original punks there.)
I don't mind clip shows if done right, yet both TMNT animated series haven't been too good at them, frankly. Maybe it's a tradition?

I think the only thing that baffled me about "Reflections" (which I actually do enjoy ) is that like a quarter of the recapped information (all the Shredder and Utrom origin stuff) happened like an episode or two before "Reflections".
I am not completely against a recap episode in the entire span of a series and heck it was still better then either of the Garbageman episodes, but it seems to me they would have done better placing it in a different portion of the season so that you were getting recapped a lot of the stuff you watched like the week before *laughs*
