Yeah, I'll probably have to flip through it and see if anything entices me to buy it up again.
I already own it in at least six different incarnations, which is probably on the low end among most TMNT fans on this Forum.

Ah, my bad. I just saw a&c next to Eastman (and Laird's) name and thought he might be doing it himself. I'll be curious to see how it compares to the first two attempts to officially colorized this issue.

Wait, so this isn't the same colored version from 2009?
I'll... have to get this, if it's an all new coloring job. I don't know why, but I feel this strange urge to see how the coloring was done THIS time around (it'll be the third colorization of #1 of it is a new job).
I'm a sucker.

Ah, Spengs, you can always justify the purchase by saying its "for the blog" and thus, "for the fans!"
After all, you do need to write a "Mirage TMNT#1 through its various reprintings" Feature Article.

I wouldn't say that. TMNT Vol 1 Issue 1 is the one #1 Turtles-wise I don't own. I don't even have a collected book that contains it.

Am I interpreting it right that this is a series that will reprint Vol. 1 issues in colour?
If that's the case I could actualy be on board with this. Although it kinda makes the IDW series a more than a little redundant.

Yes, they will be doing the others in color. I'm not sure how many. And regarding the IDW series being ''redundant'', are you serious? I take it you don't read the comics.

No it doesn't. It's like apples and oranges.
I've always found that an odd phrase. They are both fruits so hardly the objects to highlight the major differences between two things.
Yes, they will be doing the others in color. I'm not sure how many. And regarding the IDW series being ''redundant'', are you serious? I take it you don't read the comics.
I count myself as a big follower of the turtles in comic form. After a late start I've caught up with all the IDW issues bar the latest. Thus I feel comfortable enough to comment.
Despite the new twists it looks like the upcoming issues will cover the same ground as the early Vol. 1 issues. Mousers, Splinter kidnapped, Leo ambushed by Foot etc. Now we have the original version of the stories being released at the same time. In a way it's kinda neat but in another it does make one redundant.
Jester
02-17-2012, 07:04 PM
Using that logic, the 4Kids series was redundant because it told the same stories as the comics, and also the 1st movie.

Good point but the 4kids series was not airing at the same time as the stories some of those episodes were based on were published.
Not to mention the 4kids series and the movies were designed to be watched by a larger and very different audience to those that had read the comics.
Here we've got two similar stories being published around the same time and in the same medium. You coiuld argue this would've happened anyway with The Ultimate Collection but that would be more expensive and being black and white would put a lot off so wouldn't step on the monthly book's toes.

Will this new color classics series print each issue in order, I wonder? Or will it jump around a bit like the Collections?
Jester
02-17-2012, 07:26 PM
The stories are different enough, though. If anything's redundant it's the colorized Mirage stuff, as they have been released before, and are even being released by IDW in the Ultimate Collections (though in black and white).

I'd personaly prefer they were a little discerning about which issues they print but I could live with them printing all the issues in the order they were published.
The stories are different enough, though. If anything's redundant it's the colorized Mirage stuff, as they have been released before, and are even being released by IDW in the Ultimate Collections.
I see your point but hopefully they reach "Return To New York". Who wouldn't want that done in colour? There's tons of Mirage stories from "Masks" to "Shades of Grey" and "City At War" that would be great to be available to a mass audience in the more appealing colour package.
ToTheNines

Here's to hoping they skip the Hedden/McWeeny stuff (as well as a few others).
Not really liking the acid trip color job on the cover though, hopefully it's not indicative of what the interiors will look like.
I see your point but hopefully they reach "Return To New York". Who wouldn't want that done in colour?
Me. The color would take too much away from the fu*king stellar inking jobs by Pete, Talbot and Kevin. They set the tone for each of their respective issues brilliantly.
Other stories would look really good in color though. "Masks" like you said. That would be the one I'd most like to see colored.
Crazy thought... if this is somehow super successful and they continue, wouldn't it be wild to see Volume 2 in black and white? I'd buy the SH*T out of that.
Also, I think the Image run would look good colored.
DrSpengler
02-17-2012, 08:05 PM
A whole series of issues in color, eh?
Yeah, I'm down with that. The First Comics collections petered off into "Easter pastel" territory and I didn't care much for them, so I'd like to see a "do-over" on those issues.
After this comes out maybe I will do an article at TMNT Entity regarding the three different color jobs. I don't own enough printings of the black and white to do a proper edition comparison. For *that* article I'd need to buy the PBBZ reprint and my answer to that is NEVER!
Anyway, I'm excited for this. This is something I doubt I would have bought in trade form, but as a monthly release I'm oddly titilated. Dunno why.

Am I the only one disappointed by this? Instead of IDW putting out a new monthly series, like IDW's versions of Tales of the TMNT, we're already getting rereleases of stuff from the ultimate collection.
I know color is interesting to some, but what about the Archie and Image reprints we're all dying for? I'd hate to see low sales of this project wind up killing any hope of Archie and Image releases.

The first colored one. He really did a style of coloring that matched the detail and feeling of the art, something the 2009 reprint totally flopped regarding.

Casual fans will probably pick up 2-3 issues and that's it. I really don't see why they would release Volume 1 monthly in color.

It's probably a long shot, but I wonder if the first 4 will be released in oversized magazine format...
Also, they're only doing colorized single issues for the Ultimate Collection ones aka Eastman/Laird issues. So that's only about 30 total. The rest of the colored issues are going to be released in trade paperbacks.
Depending on the coloring job, seeing Return to New York and City At War in color could be really cool. The digitally colored 09 issue didn't look too good, so let's hope for a coloring job that actually matches the gritty underground feel of Volume 1.

I really don't undertand this. This is IDW's turn to release these comics. Tmnt is clearly selling very good so they figure why not do this? It's gonna sell. I for one am pretty darn giddy about the fact that the original Mirage issues are going to be released monthly with an all new coloring job. I don't own any of these stories in a colored format so it'll be nice to read them again in color.

Probably the same reasoning as Walking Dead Weekly.
Sure, there are Walking Dead trades available for around $15 each. But people might instead decide it'd be better to only spend $3 at a time to see how much they like the series. It might be a way for people who haven't read Mirage before to try out the series, when they normally wouldn't because the hardcover is expensive.
Putting the series in color will give incentive to the hardcore fans who don't mind buying the same comic again.
I like color and unless the coloring doesn't look nice I'm all over this. Though I'd prefer to be getting in trades which I think could happen if this proves to be popular, I can also see this becoming more popular than the actual IDW run. I actually think the chances of this "on going" reprints to get more of Mirage's universe re-printed than the ultimate collections.

I'm content with my first four graphic novels, even though this has better coloring. It will only make the originals more valuable as new fans come in, plus it's added promo. It's basically targeting in a similar vein to the Playmates Classics line for the figures. I wish they did Book V (#12-#14), Book VI (#15-#18, Book VII (#19-#21 AKA Return to New York) and so on as a continuation of the graphic novel series that I recently aquired for under $15 total.

These color classics are aimed at new people who never read a turtle comic before. We have the ultimate collections so I don't see the point in whining that the color will overshadow the origin toning or inking.

Wow, impressive!
Dooney Turtle is always beautiful. Even more so since I didn't think we'd ever see "official" Dooney work on TMNT titles.
I was thinking the kid is supposed to be Dale Evans McGillicutty.

Dooney cover is cool, but it just reminds me of one of his prints he makes for conventions.

Ha, yeah that's so true! Now that you mention it, I can totally see the resemblance to this piece, of which he did about 3 different variations!

Indeed it's good stuff.
Are we sure this is for the color classic series and not for the reprint of the Mark Martin issues?
New covers by Mirage alum would actualy seal the deal in me actualy buying these and not just waiting 'til they get to a story that's never been coloured.

I don't understand.
So this is supposed to be the cover for the color reprint of the Volume 1/Number 1 issue, the one that started it all? How is it relevant?
And two, yeah, I've said it elsewhere, I love Dooney's art, he's one my top three artists, but he doesn't seem to like variety.

It's absolutely unbeatable. But man, it reminds me of how much I miss Mirage.

It's collecting 13, 18 & a handfull of shorts/backups.
Plenty of Dooney content inside.
That would be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classics. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color Classics #1 is a reprint of the first issue.

So that is the cover of the volume containing the issues not done by Eastman and Laird then, right?
It just seemed like everyone was saying it was the cover to the Color Classic #1.

Nice to see some new Dooney art. Wasn't gonna go for any collected books, but I may have to cave on that one.
That Dooney cover is actually from TMNT Classics Vol. 2.

Deja Vu much?
Yeah, well I thought it was for Vol 1. The cover makes much more sense for the Mark Martian trade.

Gah, I'm all turned around again. That's weird though, no Dooney art to be found in the Volume 2 trade.

This cover is Awesome! I really like Dooney's work. I'm a little confused on where is this going to be available?
