How do you feel about the Nick generation of TMNT so far?

We're almost a full year into the IDW comic series now, we're starting to get lots of solid info and screens from the cartoon, and we've seen the new Playmates toyline.

Considering this is the third official relaunch of the TMNT franchise, how do you feel so far? Do you think it will be as successful as the first generation? As the 4kids/Volume 4/4th movie generation?

I love the IDW book, and I'm very excited for the Nicktoon. They've got some great talent behind that. I'm very very worried about the upcoming movie though... that might suck.

Popularity? It'll easily be more popular than the 4kids era. IDW's already doing better than Mirage did in those days, plus Nickelodeon will bring way more exposure than the FoxBox ever did.

But nothing will ever be as big as TMNT was in the late 80's/early 90's again. Impossible.

I'm sure given how critical us fans are, that no matter what happens, it's still new TMNT. Whether it lasts only one season or ten, it still seems pretty encouraging at this point. Remember, us G1 fans, while are still very targetable for the IDW comic and classics line, aren't really the main target audience for the Nick Toon. Nick is a big media empire and as long as Eastman, Mark Freedman, Playmates, and others keep the ball rolling will bring a whole new incarnation for most everyone to enjoy. Pokemon, Power Rangers, Transformers, and even My Little Pony, all with a similar franchise history to TMNT, are still going fine. This was also part of the reason why I joined this forum, not only to reflect on the past but to embrace the present and future.

Nick already said new episodes are committed through 2015, which means at least 3 seasons. I suspect it'll go on longer than that though, so I am not concerned. I figure at least a 5-7 season run is expected, especially if Playmates wants the toy line around for a while and Nick wants to make back its $60 million + production on the new show/advertising.

There hasn't really been much of the Nick era to enjoy other than the comics, so it's hard to saw how I feel about it. I'm hoping for good things though. Probably won't buy the toys for the new cartoon though (they look ok, but not something I'd buy), definately gonna buy the classic turtles.

I read my friends copy of the first volume of the IDW series and I was really disappointed by it. I thought it was played too safe as a first volume, with a few references to the original sources for long time fans to be happy about, but those are just distractions really. And I felt like the art was unfinished? Like they just colored in the artists storyboard. To be fair, it's just the first volume, so I'll give it another chance when there's more to read.

I'm looking forward to the new figures and cartoon mostly because it's all new. I wasn't into the 2K3 series, but I think this new show will be more my speed. And the toys look fantastic!

Overall I love everything. I do feel the series is in safe hands. The IDW book could use a lot of work, but it could be so much worse. The art is amazing at least, so that's where it gets its credit. I absolutely adore the style of the new show and the toys are awesome. Can't wait for it.

Like the IDW comic, it at least has me hooked on the month-to-month for the time being and I'm excited about the new series more and more, especially hearing who is doing voices aside from the main cast.

A large chunk of DC and Marvel comic fans never watch the cartoons based on Batman, Spiderman, etc. So it is understandable.

I guess the only reason the TMNT franchise isn't like that is because here, most of us STARTED with the cartoons and then went to the comics, so we have a sense of fondness for them.

The 4kids series also went above and beyond expectations, especially when it was airing for the first time and we didn't know what to expect. The fact that it was the first time the Turtles had, "come back" also helped matters.

With the Nick show, the majority of us are now in our mid/late 20's, and this is the third relaunch, so some people may feel like they've finally gotten too old to be watching the shows.

You know, kind of hard to judge something without actually seeing it. So yeah...can't say much about it or give an opinion on it...but I am openly against the idea of April being a teenager for this version since I like the "big sister" role for her, but if it works, more power to them. With the Nick show, the majority of us are now in our mid/late 20's, and this is the third relaunch, so some people may feel like they've finally gotten too old to be watching the shows.I'm starting to feel old now. I'm turning 31 this year. lol

Overall, I am very happy.

IMO, IDW is killing it. From the story and art side, I'm loving the ongoing series. I'm glad they are releasing the older Mirage stuff in beautful hardovers too. I'm also very happy Kevin is so involved again with his creations.

With the new show, I can't say much, because I haven't seen it. But I do LOVE the designs that they went with and the voice cast is going to be pretty amazing. The animation is most likely gonna be smooth as a baby's bottom and will look great when they (hopefully) release the seasons on Blu-Ray.

The new toy line has also got me really pumped up. The main Nick line mostly. I have some nitpicks but overall I will buy most of the stuff they release. I like the ''classic'' figures and will buy them, but I'm not really ''excited'' to get them. I dunno, they just don't do much for me.

But yeah, it's a great time to be a turtles fan.

The comics, on the other hand, are something I've been following religiously since they started again. I'm liking just about everything about them. I'm even re-collecting the old stuff as it comes out and I'm not really the type to own things several times over.

The toys won't be something I collect a lot of, but I might pick up something here or there if I have the extra money lying around. I'll probably pick up the first wave of the Classics just because Playmates is promising more cool stuff from that line if the first does well. Hopefully they don't pull a NECA and keep their end of the bargain.

Ultimately, I hope to see at least one decent video game out of all of this.

I'm cautiously optimistic, at least for now. The IDW series I'm starting to really like (especially after issue #7), even though, my expectations were somewhat low. (In fairness, I have low expectations for anything made past 2010.) I'm quite curious about the new animated series and what direction they'll go in. If I don't care for it, I got plenty of other venues to go with, instead (OT, 2003, Mirage).

Not so much for the toys, as I have other priorities between OT DVDs and other essential DVDs. However, I do like the designs, and we'll see whenever they expand with other characters.

For me, it's a little too soon to judge everything properly. I'll find out, soon enough.

I agree that the Nick toon has more potential for success than the 2003 cartoon, based on the marketing power of Nickelodeon.

QFT! The Next Mutation/Image period was not a fun one for me. Though it could be said that it wrapped up the First era while the second relaunch and then after Next Mutation was canceled the First era was over.

As for the poll. Its too early to punch in one of the options. There things I like and things I don't like. Its just as time passed how much likes will there be weighing against the dislikes. So far its about even overall for me. I have a feeling it will not match my love of the first relaunch but I will appreciate it overall.

It's not just the pacing. The whole book is lazily written and feels pretty pointless...why should the reader care about a new continuity when the old one was left unresolved? Heaven help us even the classic Spider-Man continuity got closure with the niche but long-lasting Spider-Girl book, all despite Marvel ramming their "new" continuity down our throats, something small like that from IDW would at least suffice for the old-school fans who don't want to settle for JUST a fresh take.

At least when Archie were doing their thing, we had the MIRAGE continuity going at the same time.

I just got into the comics because they looked interesting, so now I have all issues except for the two I'm asking for in my signature. So far, they're pretty good (even though I don't do comics), and I plan on continuing to buy every future issue they put out.

When I first heard that there would ANOTHER incarnation of the Turtles, I wasn't excited. I mean, I didn't watch any of the '03 series, because I just couldn't get into it (I did watch the series finale, though). I did buy a few of the toys. I bought a toy that had 4 heads you could turn around, Movie Don for my stop motion video, Toon Shredder, and maybe one more.

I DID however, really like the '07 movie. I rented it one day just because I was wanting something to watch, and really enjoyed it. The battle between Raph and Leo was amazing. That was what, 20 years in the making (23 if you count the comics). I really hope they have one more epic battle in the next movie, or sometime in the cartoon. Done right, it could be one of most bad-ass moments in ANY TMNT incarnation.

Like I said, I wasn't excited about the new Nick cartoon, but after seeing the toys (which I honestly didn't like at first either) for a while, and warming up to them, I'm excited about the toys now (ordered a case of the regular line, and a case of the Classics line).

The cartoon style looks different, and though I haven't heard any audio or seen any video from the new toon, since I'm already pretty much deep in the toys and the comics, I will give it a shot. It may be weird for a few episodes to hear Rob Paulsen do another Turtles voice, though. (Why he did Donatello, I don't know. Maybe to differentiate the new toon from the original?).

Exactly. When you consider the vast number of people that Nick is trying to attract with their new incarnation of the TMNT, the fans that want a definitive end to the Mirage continuity is a very small margin of that audience.



I so far am really happy with all the new stuff we've been getting. I've really been digging the new TMNT comic (tho Dan Duncan's artwork isn't exactly my cup o' tea, and I gladly welcome a change in art duties), the figures for the new toon and the classics line look amazing to me, and I like what we know and have seen of the new toon.

And I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I am totally fine with Don's gap tooth. As someone who grew up with braces and other teeth related problems, it's nice to see a main character not have perfect teeth. Especially since he's supposed to be a TEENAGER, and lots of teenagers have issues with their teeth.
