Sorry if this was mentioned before. It's been maybe a good 5 years since I've posted. Are the masks some of the foot are wearing in issue 5 tengu masks. If so is that a throwback to the 2004 toon, with the sword of tengu. After shredder picked up his decapitated head at the end of season 1 I was rooting for him to be a Tengu demon, which I guess in a convoluted way the original shredder was. Anyways think there is more meaning behind these masks.
Oh and don't start hating on IDW for having a mystic Shredder before we know anything about it.

Then don't bring it up before we know anything about it?

Shredder could very well be some form of demon or immortal being since he existed since Feudal Japan.
In the 4kids series both Demon Shredder and Utrom Shredder lived for a long time like this.
When I was talking to Eastman last week, he was hinting that Shredder is also a reincarnate....

That would make sense. Perhaps he holds the key to the reincarnation?
How did you get the privilege of chating with Kevin? Talk about being jealous!:tcool:

I volunteered to help at the Staple! Independent comic expo here in austin. They emailed me saying he didn't have a ride and if I could pick him up. Ended up hanging out with him all weekend.

I see. I am surprised how he has gone to SDCC and NYCC and so many other shops and shows. He may have sold his share 12 years ago but he always shows a love for it and meeting fans. Kevin is sure to be a great guy to talk anything to whether its TMNT or whatever. We all know Peter's opinion about the originial cartoon and its character set that tends to get ignored or at least did. Has Kevin ever opened up his opinion? Whatever it is its respected because he is the man! Hope you walked away with his signature and a good memory! Thanks for sharing, dude!
What do we the fans want Shredder to be? Could this be the traditional human Saki and the origins crafted within the 2003 cartoon whether its Tengu or Utrom weaved together like Splinter being an actual rat and human named Yoshi at the same time?

Kevin told me that He and Peter had to give approval to Fred Wolf for all the cartoons. He said that when they agreed to the cartoon they wanted total control. He also told me the red bandanas were a accidental and first showed up on the cover of Volume 1 issue 5 (first in color) because he didn't know what else to do...

Thanks for sharing! Going back to the topic, I see alot of melding versions history. So a deal with a tengu called Shredder caused the curse which Shredder would kill Hamato and his sons reincarnation after another until Splinter is able to break it by getting to Saki first? Similar to Hawkman in that repsect might be what Tom,Kevin, and co. are going for. In the meantime Shredder becomes one with the tengu. Its just another crazy theory.

I really hope Shredder isn't reincarnated. It seems way to easy and repetitive.

I agree. Its just every way I look at it Shredder is reincarnated too. If he is not that then he is an utrom and perhaps Krang's enemy who has taken a centeries old rivalry to Earth? I am not a fan of Shredder being non-human(same with Rat King for that matter). If he is not an utrom or reincarnated what do you think could be left Jester other than waiting until roughly issue #12 to find out? Shredder I can accept more of a reincarnate while the turtles as human souls bugs me a bit.

Maybe the secret is that the Shredder mantle is a similar setup to The Dread Pirate Roberts gig?

I don't know, man. I just know what i don't want. :P

A mantle I could live with. I mean, who says this Shredder has to be Saki. But then again, would Splinter be so vindictive as to wage war with the ancestors of his long dead enemy?
It's a rough road how ever you slice it. Maybe that's why if I have one issue with the IDW series it is the reincarnation fueled origin. It over complicates things.

Perhaps it's all a sort of twisted version of the Dalai Lama? The Foot believe it's the same man reincarnated again and again?

Assuming the shredder isn't a tengu nor made a deal with one, any other ideas on the tengu? Perhaps just a nice little nod.

In my opinion Tengu (demon) Shredder is best left in the 4Kids universe.

The clone worms may just come into play. Its already a complicated origin story anyway. There is also the means in which Agent John Bishop born in the 1780s prolonged his life if technology of say the late 1500s can be explained to enable that or perhaps steal technology of Krang tbat has been on Earth that long.

But what if the Foot does nearly kill Leo in the new Micro coming out?? That to me would be enough to at the very least get the intensity of the conflict started between Hamato Clan and the Foot.
It could be a springing board to start a war.

Wouldn't his ancestors also be long-dead?

Not if every generation continued to have children. I mean at this point if each family was large enough the entire Foot Clan could actually be Saki's descendants at this point.

But why would the Foot attempt to kill Leo in the first place? Even if they somehow discovered they are reincarnations of Yoshi and his sons (to which we would definitely need an explanation), it's the same question of why would the descendants or successors of Saki be so determined to kill their predecessor's enemy, especially one who is currently on a "path of peace"?
Wouldn't his ancestors also be long-dead?
I think he meant descendants.

That's... still not how ancestry works.... o.O
I think he meant descendants.
This seems more likely.

I think we'll be getting our answers before long, probably before the end of the third arc. I asked Bobby on the IDW boards if Santoluoco would be doing anymore flashback pages and his answer was "Hmmm. Wouldn't that be lovely? Hmmm.".

Heck it could be something as simple as Leo is in the wrong place at the wrong time without us really knowing what is in store for us in the comic. Some odd cosmic kind of fate that Leo happen to stumble into the middle of some Foot operation or after the battle they witnessed with the French Martial Artist a few comics ago maybe he follows some Foot and ends up in over his head.
Don't know but I can hazard a guess that the Foot as an organization would be interested in giant mutated Turtles, especially if Leo does end up in combat with them and they see his prowess as a fighter. Saki/ Shredder whoever may not even realize they are the re-incarnation of his old enemy until later??
I don't know I am just throwing out possibilities.

I'm sorry I was simply bypassing the word misuse and just looking at it as Saki's descendants. I see I caused more confusion by doing so, my bad :tgrin:
