View Full Version : TMNT Podcast: What the Shell!

I just found out about this podcast at end of this TMNT toy review video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYEP1Iu175s).
Here's the home page for the podcast (http://whattheshell.podbean.com/). I thinks some of us should be guests if not semi-regulars. And we should get people who have actually been involved with the franchise involved, like Kevin Eastman, Michael Dooney, Jim Lawson, Mark Martin, Steve Bissette, Dan Berger, Hedden & McWeeney, etc (and that's not even getting into the actors and voice-over artists).

Your enthusiasm is great, but I think you should refrain from trying to manage someone else's podcast.

Cowabunga!:tsmile: Nice to hear the voice of OT Michelangelo once again. I also enjoyed the non-turtle figure Top 10 feature just before the interview. Its also neat to see how he would be willing to reprise his role for the Michael Bay movie even if he knows it would be a longshot, citing evidence how Bay also directed the latest Transformers movies with some of the G1 cast, and it worked out to be a good move. When you combine the GameToonZone.com interview, Michele Ivey's interview, and a couple more on youtube, there is nearly six hours of interview footage with this bodacious dude!

Hey guys!
I'm Dylan and I host the show. Glad to hear you're enjoying it so far.
@John Pannozzi - Love your enthusiasm, just be patient, we have a lot planned and not all the podcasts are up yet as we do one a month, unless there is major news, such as Michael Bay's announcements and the future cartoon.
@Gadget - Hope you enjoyed the interview, it was such a blast to do.
Thanks again for the support guys! Keep an eye on iTunes or our feed for future episodes :D

Discovered this a while back through the site that it originated on. Pretty solid little cast. Some nice discussion on recent TMNT matters along with some nice surprises. (Like the Townsend Coleman interview. His tone when talking about Canadian actors made me a bit uncomfortable, though. "They'll never be able to get the quality up there?" Really? Something tells me he's never seen Beast Wars.) Could use a wee bit more non-OT-related content and all around knowledge, though. When I hear the Utroms being called "The Ultroms" and someone being confused as to why Baxter Stockman is black, it's hard not for my little TMNT-obsessed brain to start shouting corrections at my computer screen. All in all, though, a really fun little show to listen to.

Glad you're liking it Mona Lisa!
You too Chaotix. We've got other stuff coming bar the original Turtles cartoon, don't worry. As for knowledge, we've all come to Turtles at different points and also going back to the original black and white comics, so there is going to be gaps in our knowledge. Ha ha. Apologies for the mispronounciation, that's probably me doing that. As long as you can have a laugh and enjoy the cast, I'm happy :D

No worries, completely understandable. I heard about the forthcoming non-OT related content from Suine, so I'm very much looking forward to that! Always nice to have some variety in the different incarnations discussed. Also, you can rest easy knowing that it was Chris and Mike who made the "Ultrom" flub, not you or Suine.

You know, I've always thought the Dromers could put together a really great podcast if someone took control of the idea. A lot of the best podcasts are built around a community of people.

Pleasure listening, Dylan! I looked around a couple of years ago for a tmnt podcast and was disappointed and surprised not to find one, so this has been a long time coming for me!
keep up the great work :D

Same here. There was some discussion in the past about starting a podcast, but it never took off.

@Gadget - Yeah we were surprised too. There are plenty of He-Man ones, and a couple of Thundercat ones, but no TMNT. Well hopefully w filled the gap in the market :tlol:
@Krang - Even though we've just started being Dromer's (I think Suine's been here a long time), I hope you still enjoy the podcast. This is a great positive community, ad is now on my regular forum list :tgrin:

Hey guys! Have an update, just been so busy I haven't been around.
We interviewed David Wise who wrote a lot of the original 80's cartoon, so why not check it out and let us know what you think!

Thanks for the interview, and I'd like to share what us fans don't know so I can post it here. The reason why David changed Splinter's origin was that he felt that it was nonsensical that a rat could learn ninjitsu. The origin of the names "Rocksteady and Bebop" came from David's look at the New York street culture at the time, where there was some hip-hop/punk group called "The Rocksteady Crew" and a person whose nickname was "Bebop". It was a Playmates' employee idea to create a Rhino and a Warthog for the series. So, David simply decided to mutate two punks that he created in the first scene, and that's how we got Rocksteady and Bebop. David also referenced the movie "The Crawling Eye" where some alien brain inspired him to give Krang's tenticles, eyes, and mind.

No problem. We had so many questions to ask him, but the line was bad, so we had to cut it short, sadly. Hopefully we can interview him again.

Over the last week I've worked my way through listening to each episode, it's really enjoyable guys! I'm particularly fond of the interviews and insider info such as the MCM London 2012 Q&A you covered.
I grew up with the 88 turtle cartoon and toys, so I'm always happy to hear discussion on those, but I'm particularly excited about the potential for more Nick turtles stuff on your pod!
With the new Nick cartoon, toys, IDW line of comics ad upcoming film, you guys should have a lot of material in the coming years!

Who keeps making the clicking or popping noises during the podcasts? Almost every episode has a couple of points where it will sound like someone is opening a soda or something, it's kinda distracting.

@Fugitoid Jones - I have no idea, it might be the quality of the line or the mikes. I'll have a word and find out. Usually its something relatively simple.
So we've got two new episodes for you:
1) We interview the lovely Michele Ivey of Cowabunga Corner, learning what makes her tick and how she got into the TMNT:
http://whattheshell.podbean.com/2012/07/25/episode-4-michele-ivey-interview/
2) We have a brief look at the news roundup, offering our opinions on the new trailer, theme song and movie news. We also get a review from Suine on both the new Nickelodeon TMNT figures and the Classic ones.
http://whattheshell.podbean.com/2012/08/08/august-bonus-episode-new-toon-figures-and-more/
Let us know what you think.
We also have a tumblr page as well:
http://tmntshell.tumblr.com/
I'm going to try and post as much fan art and photos on there as I can, as well as episodes.
Any questions, feel free to ask.

New podcast is up. The gang and Michele Ivey of COwabunga COrner do a commentary of the first live action film from 1990!!!
Myself and Chris Vint are slightly ahead, turns out the UK release was cut a little bit.

haha I loaded up my copy of TMNT blu-ray and listened along with you guys in sync :P
great idea for an episode
guess you need to do TMNT 2 next! (feel free to skip 3! just saying! lol, kidding)
if you decide to do commentaries of the OT that would be cool too. Especially episodes from season 1 or other 'tentpole' episodes
your pod is only going to get more popular once the new show comes on TV!
