View Full Version : New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie Set For Christmas 2013!
Its official, Jonathon Liebesman is directing, and they describe it as being a “live-action-CGI combo”. Guess the Turtles and Splinter will be motion-capture, just as I thought. After Planet of the Apes, this is a good decision, IMO. Don’t like the idea of putting it up against The Hobbit part 2, though. That’s a bit iffy. I would have thought TMNT would lend itself to the summer season perfectly.
Oh well, at least we know now it is official. Start getting excited!

Glad to see something is finally on the ground running after changing release dates and writers and over all plot. It all seems promising so cheers to the team and looking forward to more screen time for the Green Team!:D
So now lets start guessing the chances we have of Shredder being involved! I always perferred to have the big bad in thier at least to some capacity.:tcool:

It's hard to believe that they've finally got their act together for a new film.
I wonder if they'll use the "live-action" turtle costumes in the picture!

I just read this at Superherohype.com-although they said that the director wasn't confirmed... In any event, this is AWESOME NEWS!!!!!!

The 2013 date will hopefully hold. By that point the Nick cartoon will be in its second season and the IDW comics in its third year....perfect time to kickstart the height of Nick's TMNT era.
Hopefully the movie does well and brings tons of fans to the comics and shows.
Yes, it's good to hear that the "lightening" of the script has been completed to everyone's satisfaction...
I've heard of this "lightening" thing before. Care to explain it/who said it? Was it originally too dark?
Also, I read the same story over at Hollywood Reporter and Variety. They also both said it will be a combo of live-action and CGI and, more importantly, they both said that the budget will be 100 million dollars. I must say, for this day and age and for this type of film, 100 million dollars is pretty moderate. Still, it will be easier to make a profit and ensure a franchise this way.

Why do I even bother reading threads when I see the last poster and can tell what was said.
Example: I saw that Andrew was the last poster in this thread (at one point), so I knew anything said would be about how the movie isn't Mirage and will therefor suck.

No, not really.
Look, I'm not trying to be Negative Nancy here, but when a person of whose opinion is absolutely paramount in this franchise reads the script and goes, "it's the best Turtles story I've ever read anywhere, period!" and then a few weeks later you hear, "It's being completely rewritten to be lightened up" (when it was already in a PG/barely PG-13 territory)... that kind of gives me cause for concern.
It may be for nothing. It's very possible there's a new vision being brought to light that's even better than before. I hope so, I really do. There's few things that would give me greater joy on the big screen than sitting down with my popcorn and flask (hey, it's like they say: it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it, and watching TMNT movies is a bit like playing Russian Roulette by yourself with like 3 bullets already in the chamber) and watching a truly awesome, definitive TMNT movie.
No. Not really.

It really sucks that it was rewritten from what was rated so highly by Kevin (that's who said it right?), and that gives me cause for concern too. I just don't understand why they can't do a spin-off of a TMNT movie 1 feel and still please the kiddies. Maybe they are, I dunno. I'm hopeful and just glad this news has been made official, finally!
Question: what does this mash up of CGI/live action mean? Will there actually be guys in costumes or not? I don't understand this in between stuff. Is it like Gollum in LotR?

Given the budget, I'm thinking guys in suits with CGI assists for eyes, lip movements and possible ALL-CGI for quick bits of action that would be awkward/cumbersome/damaging to the costumes to have guys in suits do.

Given the budget I'd be really surprised, even shocked if the TMNT we see in the movie the whole time are CGI. Real costumes with CGI assists mean they can save on CGI rendering and save (pretty much entirely) on animatronics while leaning on CGI only where absolutely necessary.

Assuming there are no other mutants in the movie other than the Turtles/Splinter, (and there shouldn't be), I don't see why they can't do it similar to the first live action movie.
CG would be used for the Turtles jumping on rooftops or aerial battles that the costumes couldn't do.

But the expense of creating the costumes (animatronics not withstanding) might be just as hefty as just removing the mo-capped people and replacing with CG....
But then again, I don't rightly know. I'd assume the suits would need to look pretty real, aside from the faces, and they'd probably be put through heck for stunts.
I guess one way would be to look at the budgets of a CG-assisted costume film vs. a fully CG mo-capped movie.
EDIT: How was Where the Wild Things Are produced? It cost 100 Million, where as Rise of the Planet of the Apes was 93 Million, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. The cost is similar.

Not really. You introduce fully CGI characters into a live-action set interacting with live-action actors and actresses and it's to be believable, you're introducing a million variables and millions of dollars in man hours. Light sourcing, 3D mapping onto live action landscapes, and then actual people too? And it's not even in a blue/greenscreen environment that can be manipulated with layers? That's about as painstaking to produce as it gets.
EDIT: How was Where the Wild Things Are produced? It cost 100 Million, where as Rise of the Planet of the Apes was 93 Million, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. The cost is similar.
Where the Wild Things Are is probably the exact template this movie is following. That was all real suits with CGI assists for facial/lip movement. I bet that's what we're getting here, along with maybe a few high-action scenes where they can afford to insert some fully-CGI TMNT going crazy with ninjitsu in a way you just can't if it's a guy -- no matter how capable -- fumbling around mostly blindly in a suit.
Nice to have a date, I think we all wanted summer time but there is always tons of competition then, though that would've meant they were taking it more seriously, I thought they wanted TMNT to be their next "Transformers" but who knows if that's what they're still planning. Christmas 2013 really isn't that far away, about a year and a half away, we should see a teaser poster of some kind by SDCC.

Well all movies have competition. If they rushed it and went with summer 2013, it'd be up against Superman, Wolverine, etc. And if they held off until summer 2014, then that runs into Paramount's very own Transformers 4, and whatever else pops up there too (probably the sequel to Amazing Spider-Man).

I agree with you there, dude. That would be awesome.
Quite a few reason's they can't do that though. TMNT is marketed as a very kid-friendly franchise, and kid's love color.
Oh, and yes, I'm stoked to see this moving forward!
Andrew, in the last Kevin interview I saw he discussed how they had a dark script, tried to lighten it, and were now kinda taking it back to the original script idea. So, there is some hope there. Did you ever get a chance to read the first proposed script?

I feel a Christmas release may benefit Playmates more since it will encourage more to buy the toys in addition. But like the 1990 movie, we need a good first couple seasons of the cartoon to build some hype for this movie. It's nice, but since its down the pike, I'm still more anticipated over the Nick series.

But, wait a second! It says that the video was uploaded in November. Unless I missed it, Kevin doesn't clarify when he read the script. It sounds very possible that he read a fairly recent draft and thought it was "...excellent"
Thanks for the Link. I must have missed that if it was posted here last year.

Just saying, Rise of the Planet of the Apes had a budget of 93 million dollars: http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=riseoftheapes.htm
Full motion-capture for the Turtles and Splinter can be achieved no problem on 100 million. Where the Wild Things Are looked bad, IMO. Their faces were very well done, to be fair, but the body movement was horrid. They all moved like Big Bird. They just looked like men in clunky suits, which is what they were.

I am just hoping one get's released towards the start of the month and the other towards the end. That way the wealth can be spread out a little bit more between them. At least hopefully Turtles and Hobbit should be close to it for action/ effect films at the time hopefully, since Harry Potter's done and I think after the last film Narnia is pretty dead in the water and those were the only other Holiday franchises I cant think of.

Good thing is that films that come out in December have the strongest holds. In a lot of ways, its one of the best times to release a movie. If the budget of TMNT is a mere 100 million, you can bet your life that this is sure to spawn a very lucrative franchise. The TMNT brand still holds a lot of weight around the world.

Nothing of note other than this sh*t-head's comment:
The only way I go see TMNT in theaters is if it's nothing like the Archie comics version of the turtles and more like Eastman & Lairds orginal storyline. For example Shredder was renegade Krang in the comic, and the other Krangs were actually quite peaceful.

I was so excited when this was going to be the 25th Anniversary DVD. The idea of having the actual first issue as an animated movie seemed to good to be true. And like they say if it sounds to good to be true it is. As we saw it didn't happen. I'd love to see it happen someday though.
Then again one day I'd love to actually see Eastman and Laird's main story done as a set of DTVs. I think having their story as they originally told it would be amazing.
That said I know that isn't what this new movie will be. However I'm still excited to see the TMNT on the big screen again. I'm going to hold off trying to guess what we will see for the moment. Whatever it is I hope they spend the time and energy to give us something that old fans and new can both enjoy.

You're really not seeing the bigger picture.
A super successful TMNT movie in 2012 (or 2013, or 2014, or whatever it ends up being) cannot be "for" any existing faction of the fandom. It will not become a blockbuster on any sort of virtue of "nostalgia," be it for guys like me who only find a lot of merit in the source material or the clusters of people who replay Fred Wolf episodes every couple of weeks or so.
It needs to be provocative and exciting for brand new viewers in modern demographics that make quirky martial arts actioners successful. And focus group limiting things to what children of a certain age are supposed to like is falling into the same age-old trap that a lot of would-be franchise makers fall into. C'mon, think back a bit. Kids aren't entirely stupid... when they're kind of told "This sort of thing is what you should be watching," they kind of become hip to it. They resist it. Kids like to know they're watching something with a bit of an edge, something a bit above what society tells them is above the cut of their jib... it's what makes it provocative.
And we're not talking about an R-rated Turtles movie... I'm talking about a pretty hardcore PG-13 Turtles movie that would strike a perfect balance of demographic vs. faithfulness to the source material, something that's never been tried before.
Awesome, awesome, awesome!! So excited!

It's not that I don't agree and it's not that I don't see what would make a really cool TMNT movie that's supposed to make people see TMNT in a whole new light. It's just that, after how the average person responded to the 2007 film, I have no faith in said average person "getting it" when it comes to something cool and provocative in the TMNT sense. I can see kids getting into something new and a bit edgier than what their used to in the same sense that I got into the original TMNT flick and, several years later, the comics once I saw the connection between the two. I just don't see fully grown adults accepting anything that "OMG IT DIDN'T HAEV THA THEME SAWNG!!!!!111"
In short, while the kids would fall in love with something like that, I'm extremely cynical on what the average adult will accept in regard to a TMNT film.

Yeah. you have a point. But if they get the type of direction Nolan had with Batman. Fans won't care there wasn't the theme song. As long as they don't try to reinvent a theme song. Just get a good composer to score the movie.

All I want is something that truly defines and explores the characters. I enjoy some good action, but for me, a great movie is more story driven and even more character driven. I want a film that doesn't just say "ok audience, Raph is the hot head," for example. I want a film that takes time to delve into it and explore it.
I think if you make a film that creates real, believable characters with a story that connects with them, then you can overcome the audience predetermined expectations. I think that's what ultimately comes down to how the Nolan Batman films changed some people's perception of Batman.

I think the only thing the 2007 film proved was that general audiences won't go and see a horrible TMNT movie and nostalgia won't fill seats. I could've told them that beforehand and saved them a lot of money.
In short, while the kids would fall in love with something like that, I'm extremely cynical on what the average adult will accept in regard to a TMNT film.
The adults would and could only be the icing on the cake of any super successful TMNT movie... it's the teens that will fill the seats. They have to. And if it's not insultingly kid-pandering as, say, a PG TMNT movie would be (Teenaged Ninjas... but it has to be completely pasteurized for pre-teenagers? why?), then it wouldn't keep out adults either.
I guess my point is that there can still be a PG-13 movie that's awesome and intriguing for teens and youths that still has enough teeth that, 1) It'd be faithful enough tonally to the source material, 2) A "Children Only" flag won't go up for adults. But #2 doesn't even matter in the big picture of box office, I'm just saying that in this case, we can have our cake and eat it too so why not?

You read my mind. I think it makes complete sense to age the Turtles into something more mature. I can easily envision a film where they're in their early 20's and have more life experience. The TMNT fanbase has grown up, so why shouldn't the Turtles?

Of course, I understand there's a kind of a kitsch charm to the full "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" title but strictly speaking personally I like the idea of just "Ninja Turtles" for a variety of reasons, but largely for the greater emphasis that gives on the "Ninja" aspect of the TMNT.

I suppose that because turtles are such naturally long-living creatures, they can say that they may be “teenagers” in human years, but they’re really in their early-to-mid-twenties in their own years.
Honestly, though, I think they’re probably going to stick fairly close to each turtle’s characterisation that people have known for years. Michelangelo will be the “comic-relief” one, for example, whilst Leonardo will be the serious, sensible leader and so forth.
And yes, I do like Ninja Turtles as the title. I still think they're going to go with the full title, though, seeing as their "rebooting" the franchise, so to speak, and starting from scratch.

http://blog.viacom.com/2012/03/scenes-from-the-nickelodeon-upfront/
This is what it says:
After an earth-rattling sizzle reel of his greatest hits – from The Rock to Pearl Harbor to the Transformers trilogy – Michael Bay gave the crowd a first look at the previsualization – filmmaker speak for a 3D, digitally animated storyboard – for Ninja Turtles, Paramount Pictures’ live-action reinvention of the franchise set to hit theaters next year. “We want this film to have the impact of a Transformers one,” said Bay. If the stunning previs is any indication, Bay is making good progress against that lofty goal in his role as producer. Another tidbit he offered up is that the Turtles origin story has been updated, from the decidedly 80s radioactive waste accident to an alien planet.

I hope we get to see an adaption of the "Turtles in Space" storyline in this new film series.

Well... Utroms come from an alien world and it's their waste that originally mutated the Turtles. I guess some greater emphasis on their world to start with wouldn't be completely apocryphal.

That the first bit of real news on the shooting script we get is "alien planet," though, seems to torpedo the hope that they'd begin things fairly down-to-earth.
But it might just turn out to be a small thing. Like, think the Jor-El on Krypton beginning to Superman: The Movie.
Killer Moth
03-16-2012, 08:27 PM
Interesting they'd drop about the alien planet. It would make for some interesting pacing if they went there, throw in some aliens (Utrom, Triceraton) and a ninja battle with Shredder in the same movie. The tone shift can be tricky but not impossible. Unless they don't opt for the latter, of course, but with a new revamp film, I can't see it without Shredder playing some role.
"Turtles In Space," eh? Well, we're due for a Triceraton movie appearance and the 2003 series ensured modern audiences should be able to split the difference between Krang and the Utroms. Or, maybe, we'll finally get the 'Secret of the Ooze' premise that was meant to be done, but couldn't be done in '91 for reasons that has since been discussed.
Edit: In case we do get the "Turtles = aliens" plot treatment, as some are inferring, hoo boy. If so, expect a lot more Star Wars references. Ugh. I won't be looking forward to that, and I was an ex-Star Wars fanboy.

I know I'm gonna get a "But the Turtles aren't *insert hero here*" response but how much was Spider-man's origin changed for his movie? Or Batman's? How about Superman? The Turtles also have an "iconic" or at least really simple and straight forward origin story. Why does it need to be made complicated and convoluted?
Funny you should mention IDW, Nines, because I'm not 100% thrilled with the reworking of the origin. I think reincarnation muddies the waters and over complicates things. Besides, shouldn't there other "pasts lives" for Yoshi and his sons, or did they die, and then wake up as a rat and 4 turtles? I don't think reincarnation works that way... though to be fair, I don't really know how it works.

Maybe. We got a Transformers movie from Bay's stable where the humans got more focus than the Transformers... and those humans weren't even pre-existing characters.
No matter what happens, though, I'm sure the Turtles will still have been normal turtles from Earth who get mutated humanoid. Whether that happens on an alien planet or via their ooze or some kind of intentional experiment or project, who knows.

Something like that might actually work for a movie about Ninjas, though. Spending a lot of the movie going unseen or barely seen in a Dreamwave kind of way would really be awesome if done right. In the case of Transformers, you had these huge battles between giant robots going on and a lot of what we get are shots of them fighting in the background while the main human characters dodge debris or something. With the Turtles it could at least make a little more sense to play it up like the earlier parts of Ninja Assassin while not giving them a full reveal until much later.
I'd prefer the Turtles getting center stage, but I could see the humans getting center stage if done right.

I really hope that when he says "these Turtles are from an alien race" he's really refering to the Utroms.
Why would Nick/Viacom approve of such a script? They approved of the IDW origin where they were from Earth and the Nick show will probably have a normal origin as well.
Why the hell would they want the movie origin so different, if they want fans of those to see the comics and cartoons?
Because they don't care about fans, and are aiming this at kids who never heard of the Ninja Turtles.

when he says "these Turtles are from an alien race"
Technically that's true, though, isn't it? Even in the Mirage material, they are technically "from an alien race." Specifically "from the byproduct of an alien race," but still from an alien race.
Why would Nick/Viacom approve of such a script?
Because there's no longer any Kevin Eastman or Peter Laird to veto bad story/script after bad story/script.
Which isn't to say it'll be bad. If there's a larger than we're used to alien influence in the Bay TMNT but the rest of it is pretty badass and tonally faithful... should we throw the baby out with the bathwater? No, probably not.
No matter what, though, it's still really got me scratching my head that literally the first thing ever publicly released about the story of the new TMNT film is something that -- on the surface -- appears to completely fly in the face of everything people know and identify with in the Turtles. They want this to be the first nugget they throw out there, really? It just seems bizarre. I don't believe they'll not be mutants but it could definitely be read that way, but either way it's puzzling from a marketing standpoint... I mean, "they're aliens, folks!" is supposed to get people excited? It's a meaningless announcement to make to non fans and only serves to piss off existing ones.
They approved of the IDW origin where they were from Earth and the Nick show will probably have a normal origin as well.
Why the hell would they want the movie origin so different, if they want fans of those to see the comics and cartoons?
I doubt Nick/Viacom quite puts the same stock or care in what IDW does with the comic book they licensed as they do with what's going on in their movie and cartoon -- those, and toys, were always the two focal points for Nick/Viacom. More comics were just something they said "OK" to.

Hm. I think it'd be best to just wait to hear what others involved in the film say about it. Previews, trailers, interviews. Until then, I'm just gonna wait.
No use in pulling out hair before you know the big picture.
Why would Nick/Viacom approve of such a script? They approved of the IDW origin where they were from Earth and the Nick show will probably have a normal origin as well. But aren't they reincarnated humans in the IDW series?

Since I skipped the 2007 movie, I will make a serious attempt to see the 2013 film. Or, just get it on DVD, as that's my preferred choice. Either way, I'll see it, but with tweaked expectations (more than usual).
If the fandom can survive the revisions of "tried to destroy Yoshi with that mutagen," Venus' sudden appearance into the origin and Shredder as an Utrom, this will be no different. Furthermore, maybe the producers figured since the 2003 series made Shredder an alien and people eventually accepted it, they figured, 'hey, why not?'
It's best to wait until the writer chimes in, whenever that is. At least, we're not wanking it up too much, right? Meanwhile, I'll go laugh at Goongasnootch's sig.

Yeah, but that was back when Mirage owned the turtles. Peter and Kevin were involved in the making of that movie so it's no suprising it came out ''darker'' than what kids were used to. But Nick is different. They paid a lot of money and I don't think they are gonna screw this up.

This all could be academic, anyway, as if enough people female dog about this, they will probably scrap the alien angle and go back to square one. With the internet age, everything is more fluid, including instant retractions or revisions. It isn't like the script is finalized or anything else, so there is time.

I just think you need to have slightly more information before you completely write everything off.
You are making a lot of assumptions about one sentence and then here-say from a few other sources.
And you know what at this point this might be the best or the most terrible Turtles film ever made, the simply fact is we don't know enough.
I mean before IDW started their comic line you have to admit if some confusing bit about reincarnation had gotten out instead of us all being introduced to it within the context of the story people would have been flipping out most likely as they are now. Perception is everything.
Just let things play out for a while longer see what is actually going on. Once you have concrete proof of something if you want to flip out then by all means please do.

This is probably the most cogent thing I've read about the whole issue. Not that it makes my mild righteous indignation at this rewriting of the origin, but it remind me that despite my initial balking, I'll be sure to keep up with the updates to see if they redeem this idea that at face value makes me want to do this:

Another tidbit he offered up is that the Turtles origin story has been updated, from the decidedly 80s radioactive waste accident to an alien planet. The “teenage mutant” remains intact, however, for the brand-new CG-animated TMNT series debuting on Nickelodeon this fall
All the article says is that the Nick cartoon is still "teenage mutant" meaning that the Turtles are definitely mutants. The movie is going in a different direction.

If he had said the aliens comment as one of many things in a blurb about what they're doing with the Turtles in the movie it might be easy for me to do what I instinctively want to do, which is say, "Oh, we're misinterpreting him" (i.e., my early theory about, "Oh, he just probably means aliens/Utroms play a bigger/direct role in the Turtles' mutation"). But it's really the only thing he's throwing out there in that blurb, and rather playfully so, so objectively it does seem pretty damning to that end.
That said, the more I think about it, the less I'm willing to condemn the movie if it turns out they're aliens. I won't like that aspect, I will think it's lazy and maybe even a bit disrespectful to the core concept of the Turtles... even displaying a kind of cavalier attitude toward audiences a bit like "Aw, who even cares about the Turtles' origins"... and at the very least, it's getting early hype about the movie off to a truly awful start... but...
If at the end of the day Bay and company deliver a movie with ass-kicking Ninja Turtles at a level that has never been seen before on the big screen... I think I'd be willing to forgive a lot.
But then there's that comment about making the Turtles "loveable"... screw it, where's my pitchfork?

That's one reason not to get so damn worked up about this. The two big things to come out of the Viacom sale are things that kept the basic parts of the origin.
Don't take everything at face value. You're freaking out because Michael Bay said something retarted that might have just been him misinterpreting something or knowing next to nothing about the movie he's producing (you know, like the other Platinum Dunes films).

The problem is more people, as in the general public, will go see a TMNT movie in theaters over reading the comics or watching the cartoons.
Its the same with any superhero movie. You think most of those people who see the Spiderman/X-men/Batman movies in theaters then go to their nearest comic store to pick up comics and watch the old cartoons? Of course not, the only people who do that are already the hardcore fans.
The Turtles being aliens is a horrible thing to put into the mindset of people. There's already huge backlash about this on every movie/comic site, just read the comment sections of the articles.
Its also perplexing why Viacom would allow a movie to go in this direction when they seem to have such a tight grip on the IDW comics and cartoon, and seem to be handling those well.

Title could be anything at this point. Movies, just like shows and cartoons, go through multiple names before being released. So at this point, it could be simply called "Ninja Turtles" but when released actually be called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: (whatever)"

During production, Bay attempted to create a misinformation campaign to increase debate over what Transformers would be appearing in the film, as well as to try to throw fans off from the story of the film. However, Orci confessed it had generally not been working. The studio went as far as to censor MTV and Comic Book Resources interviews with Mowry and Furman, who confirmed Arcee and The Fallen would be in the picture. Bay told Empire that Megatron would not be resurrected, claiming his new tank form was a toy-only character, only for Orci to confirm Megatron would return in the film in February 2009. Bay also claimed he faked the leaking of daily call sheets from the first week of filming, that revealed Ramón Rodríguez's casting, and the appearance of Jetfire and the twins.
Well what do you know...thanks Prime.

It's plain stupid and the guy desn't know jack about the TMNT, but that thing is gonna be read by a lot of people. I don't get what your talking about. I didn't see anything wrong in that article.

The Turtle in the picture is Mike, not Raph; the film series didn't "quickly descend into CGI irrelevancies", it took 17 years; the turtles didn't "came about because they were exposed to radioactive material", it was actually an alien ooze in their first incarnation.
And then, you've got things like:
The original cartoons are almost unwatchably jerky.
Well, whatever.
I'm glad this alien thing is getting negative publicity, but I just find the whole article awful.
Granted the ooze is often called radioactive waste even on wikipedia and tmntpedia. And Kevin Eastman called it radioactive ooze.

That is Raphael...you can tell by threat his head is shaped and the foot in the background. That is were he was about to be jumped on the rooftop

Didnt the utroms say that it was Radioactive waste from their planet?

Yeah I think you're right. The bandana just looks so orange.

The Utroms referred to it as a "Mutagenic Agent", but I can't recall them saying it was any sort of waste from their planet. I might wrong, tho.

If I am not mistaken that is why they were trying to get rid of it. Its been a min though.

At least people are getting wind and don't like the idea..
I really want to see the rest of that clip. There was obviously much more said.
It's a sad day when scumbags who don't care about the source material think they can turn the Turtles into anything they want.
Why's Michael Bay a scumbag, exactly? This is why "fanboys" get such a bad rap.

Mhm. Very ironic that the event was called "Nickelodeon Upfront" but no one from Viacom has been upfront about any of this.

I just find it strange. Why was only that little 15 second snippet revealed? More was obviously filmed. Does anyone know where the footage originated from? The presentation probably lasted for a good ten minutes.
TMNT is cooler than MOTU

Wait a second, are they really dropping the "Teenage Mutant" part of the title for the movie???:teek:

Just curious in a general way:
If the Turtle are not aliens, just their origin is and it's pretty close to what we have usually seen will people still be up in arms if they change the title to just "Ninja Turtles"??
Just personally while I honestly don't like the alien idea, it really doesn't matter to me if they just called the film Ninja Turtles.

I've always been for changing the title to "Ninja Turtles." But only if the material within the movie suitably justifies the greater emphasis on "Ninja." If it's a kiddy camp fest, just leave it as-is, I say.

This movie is shaping up to be the worst thing to happen to the TMNT franchise since Next Mutation.

I would assume that the title change is not just because they’re aliens (if that ends up being the case), but also because they want to give them an edgier and more mature feel. Obviously having “Teenage” in the title will sort of back them into a corner, because no matter what the characters would have to at least act from time to time like conventional teenagers. Getting rid of the “Teenage” means that they don’t have to worry about that.

Your definition of "shaping up" is odd. We don't really know anything at this point.

If they really make them into aliens, I won't care about the title. I mean, technically speaking, they won't even be turtles anymore.

Like these guys, starting around 2:00. Except they actually make you drink blazing electric death.
(For those unsure about the link, it's the aliens in the movie, Laserblast, or the last MST3K episode on Comedy Central.)

Bay is known to be a fall guy for tidbits of info to be spread early in a films development. He did it with transformers to gauge reaction. They are probably doing it with this film to. He is also known to give false info to keep story/plot points secret as well. I take this with a grain of salt until the movie gets closer to release.
And i have no problem taking the "teenage mutant" out of the title as long as they stay true to the origin stories. I personally am liking the new IDW Comics stories the best.

http://www.shootfortheedit.com/forum/showthread.php?10389-Ninja-turtles This just recently came up. He mentions he is working with one of the original creators which I am sure it is Kevin; so the alien race just got out of hand and most likely he was referring to the Utroms.

I hope this settles things down a bit. I've followed the whole thing from the outside instead of diving into this cesspool and it's been absolutely ridiculous.

Like I said on Page 1 of the other thread, this is already being discussed here!
A merger or a lock would be nice just to simplify things.
