As awesome as the first issue was and this issue looks, they don't really read consistant with the main series.
Sure, Raph would bop Mikey in the Mirage or 4Kids series, but it seems so out of character for this Raphael to... which is kinda odd. lol

That, my dude, is a big part of why I like this book. It just screams Mirage.

Raph slaps Mikey on the head?

What is this, the 4kids series?

Loved the first issue, I can't wait to read this. For some reason I find the art to be a bit weaker in that preview, and the colors look a bit off in some panels (what's with Raph's legs in the last panel of page 3?). Still, issue 1 is my favourite IDW TMNT so far, so this is a must.

Really? Raph striking Mikey is the big thing people take from this? It didn't even register with me.

Toby Barrett
03-20-2012, 12:17 PM
It's not a big thing, it's just something that stuck out for me, since Raphael isn't an asshole in the main series and has gotten along really well with Mikey.

No biggie, just saying.

I dunno. Sure Raph is more mellow with Mikey in this series, but that doesn't mean he'll tolerate everything Mikey does.

Besides, I thought it was funny.

Like nearly blowing them all to hell/crushing them in the following cave in...? Am I right...? ;)

Really dug the first one, can't wait to pick up part 2. The preview was great. What I think is cool is it pretty much fits any universe.

I liked it! To me this issue was very eventful and had a great story. I really really loved the dark mysterious tone to it. I also really liked the cult aspect to it given the turtles reincarnation origin.

Heroes in a halfshell and the outside world was excluded from the events.

I picked it up today (both covers). It came out to be not as good as I expected, but it's still a great read. It does indeed feel like a Mirage book in a way, and that is something that appeals to me a lot. The art, however, seems to be a bit more rushed than in issue 1. There's a big lack of backgrounds, the inking is less detailed (you can even still see the pencils in quite a lot of panels) and there's way too many panels where the feet of the Turtles haven't even been drawn (it can be seen as a style thing, but I think it's a bit too much). I really really love Torres' work, so this disapointed me a bit.

Still, this arc is for me the best IDW has done so far, and it's always a pleasure to read Tristan's TMNT. I hope we get more books from him soon.

I'm not a Lovecraft expert by all means, but isn't Shub Niggurath usually portrayed as a female?

TristanHuwJones
03-21-2012, 08:57 PM
Usually, but not always. It's been called the Black Ram with a Thousand Young in other stories, which indicates it's a male. You're more than welcome to check between it's legs though... ;)

Here's my review at TMNT Entity! (http://tmntentity.blogspot.com/2012/03/infestation-2-tmnt-2.html)

This was an awesome two-parter. I really enjoyed every minute of it. And great that it came after the Donatello microseries, sequentially, too. The Don-centric story really complimented the one-shot.

Good stuff.

Amazing conclusion to a spectacular two-part series. Tristan has done it again!

I loved Raph smacking Mikey, it was hilarious! I literally laughed out loud.

Great stuff, quality work, fantastic art...MORE IDW TMNT BOOKS BY TRISTAN REQUIRED.

I agree. i wouldn't say that action defined Raph as being an ass at all. It was more like a 3 stooges action. nuck nuck

Got it today. Was pretty good, but there are more mask-color errors than the last one.:ohwell:

Really? I only counted one... Don wearing red towards the end.

Seems like there was a three page set that somehow escaped the editor's notice!

On page 19, panel 4, Leonardo's mask looks like Donatello purple to me. Could go either way, though, since I think their mask colors as a little too similar in shade.

Donatello is wearing red on the first panel for page 20, and Mikey seems to have uncolored arm pads and bandana on the 3rd panel of the same page.

On page 21, Leo again appears to be wearing Donatello purple on the 3rd(?) panel.

I love the shot of Raph holding Leo's bloody sword on page 13. It's not a mistake, of course, but it does give me some Archie Comics Future TMNT flashbacks!

I liked this little story. Kinda reminded me of Notes from the Underground on the 4Kids show.

Strange, I like to think I really soak in the art, I give it my full attention... Yet I've never noticed these color errors, haha.

Toby Barrett
03-22-2012, 02:46 PM
From what I can tell, the coloring errors always take place when the turtles are drawn far out in the background. If that's as bad as it gets, and we don't have two Raphaels, two Leonardos, and a Donatello, I'm not too concerned about coloring errors at all. XD
It happens in all comics.

I've honestly never read that before. It's always the "Black Goat with a Thousand Young" that I've encountered. I think I'll pass on gender verification, though....

Regarding the Blue and Purple colors on the IDW books. I can't help but think that something might get blurred or tinted in the printing process. Like somebody else said, it usually only occurs in the "distance" shots so it isn't terribly noticeable. I just point them out because I know you care! (And because I LOVE finding coloring mistakes in TMNT media!):tlol:

Been out of town so I couldn't pick this up till today, but my patience was rewarded with a kick-ass comic.

This whole concept was just awesome, and calling in Tristan to write was a perfect choice. The art was great, just like the first issue, and my favorite part was the semi decapitation.

Also, this mini-series definitely further established Don as my favorite IDW turtle.

Same here. I feel like he's getting the most attention so far, but it could change any time.

The first couple of issues were pretty Raph centric, but it does seem like Donnie has the spotlight right now - one shot, Infestation, and in the on going his whole "anti-reincarnation" attitude seems to be attracting a lot of people. IDW is definitely developing Don extensively. Tom & co. did say they were gonna hit each Turtle and develop them better, so maybe next (seeing as how his one shot is next) will be Leo followed by Mikey.

ToTheNines
03-26-2012, 02:53 PM
Donnie's been my favorite ever since early on. He's been calling out Splinter and Leo as early as #2.

Anyways, I also really liked Raph's portrayal in this one. I know IDW hasn't done much with him since he's been reunited, but that didn't hold Tristan back at all.

Tristan can we expect you to be working on more turtle related projects?

TristanHuwJones
03-29-2012, 09:56 PM
Nah, probably not for a while. I haven't really talked to anyone about it, or thought about it too much. Tom's doing such a great job on the main book, and there're some talents coming up on the next batch of micro books I'm keen to see for myself, so I'm pretty content just watching it all play out.

If the right story comes along, maybe, or if I can tell more Gang War stuff, certainly (really miss Hun and King Cobra), but I'm really busy with something coming up in Ghostbusters (if you like my TMNT stuff, PLEASE go to your local comic shops and tell them to put GHOSTBUSTERS #9, #10, #11, and #12 in the orders RIGHT NOW), and I'm kinda keen to flex my horror muscles a bit more after Infestation...

Well done Tristin, you're definitely the go to guy for Mirage fans, I enjoyed this more than the ongoing series.

Hopefully we'll see you and Mark Torres team up again in the future.

I don't even know what's being planned beyond #12 yet, mate. I've only seen the story up until the end of HAUNTED AMERICA. Best ask either Erik or Tom, who are both floating around here somewhere...

The Tobin story has one of my favourite ghost images I think I've ever done, and is rife with Ghostbusters mythology! Laura Parr is challenging, but really loving it. I think I drew my all-time favourite panel today, but I don't think anyone'll ever guess which it is!

We both would love to, but at the end of the day, it's not my call. I'm very flattered you dug it as much as you did -- and from the overall response we've had to the book -- but Tom, Bobby and Kevin have this thing well in hand, and I'm sure Erik'll do a killer job as well.
