View Full Version : Isn't it sad that TMNT the movie was Jim Henson's last film?

That and The Witches were the last films he ever worked on before his untimely death, he was a god among puppeteers and i believe he was an uncredited producer of this film.

And did Brian Froud who worked on his classics The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth did movie designs for the turtles?

Agreed. Henson will be missed. I loved all of his work. I still smile when ever I see this picture:

Jim Henson was a true genius in more ways than one. He will be always be remembered as long as his creations are still enjoyed, which practically guarantees forever.:tgrin:

I think it is sad that he died but not that TMNT was his last movie. He went out with a bang! He said the turtle costumes were one of the hardest things he has ever worked on, so he had much to be proud of in that film.:)

It's definitely sad he passed, but what better film to be your last, eh? It's damn gem. :)

Is there any truth to the rumor that Henson was one of those who decried the violence of the 1st movie, since it was kinda the antithesis of what Muppets stand for?

Hell no it's not sad! Jim went out on a high note and left a wonderful legacy behind that may outlive the Muppets (even though Disney owns them).

Well his Dark Crystal and Labyrinth were quite dark movies and so was Ninja Turtles, i guess they went into darker muppet territory back then.

I like to think Jim would be proud of where his son and others have taken the Muppets since his passing.

It really shows in SOTO, where the movie is dedicated to him and proves it was a big deal to the crew. But I fall more for that Mr. Henson passed right around the time the final Muppet Babies episodes were finished, and that series could have continued on if he lived on. Just ask this same question on the Muppet Central forums and you'll get a similar response based on this thought. Elmo from Sesame Street never got out of hand until post-Henson. But I'm amazed how well the Muppets franchise is going over 20 years after his death; I thought it wouldn't last more than a few more.

Taking my natural bias out of the equation I do view the first TMNT movie as his greatest achievment. He brought to life in a believable way something which most people thought was impossible.

I do wish he'd lived to know his opinion of it given the conflicting accounts. The two sequels might have been very different if he's lived.

It's so sad that he passed away, but not sad that TMNT was his last film. It's an incredible gift that TMNT fans will always treasure.

Great way of putting it.

I'm still amazed that many people aren't even aware of Jim Henson's involvement with the TMNT film(s). I've even known a few Jim Henson fans who had no idea about it. :teek:

In my opinion, he was one of the greatest genius to ever work on TV. I admire him deeply, and his work had such a big influence on me, both as a kid and as an adult.

I'm glad he lived long enough to work on that film. I was amazed when I first found out he was the man behind those costumes, never knew it as a kid.

It's alittle sad since he didn't really like the project but whatever.

I can see why people would be suprised. It seems to skew away from the typical Henson projects which to me makes it even more amazing accomplishment.

How do you know he didn't like it?

His children didn't like that the second movie was dedicated to Jim as apparently he didn't like the violence of the first movie. I've read reports that he did like it but I guess we'll never really know.

I believe the supposed violence of TMNT is why the Creature Shop didn't work on the third movie.

So how come nobody ever "blames" Jim Henson for the declining quality and lighter tone of the sequels? :tevil:

Oh, what am I saying... I could never stay mad at Jim Henson! :tlove:

Jim Henson mentioned that making the Turtles and Splinter was his greatest achievements he ever made. The only thing we will know from the full extent is when Issac and his team have the full documentary finished and hear what Brian has to say about it.

Ah, and Henson went to the University of Maryland. The mascot is a terrapin turtle :)

It was because of Jim Henson's genius that all throughout my childhood I would find ways to pry open the manhole cover outside my house so I could hang with the Ninja Turtles.

Do you also remember The Witches? i saw that when i was 9 about 3 times in theaters and loved it, Henson also went out with a bang on that besides Turtles.

Oh Yes Storyteller was an awesome show i use to watch all the time.

But i wonder if Brian Froud who worked on his fantasy classics did the movie designs for the Turtles, Splinter and Shredder?

Who knew that Elmo was the voice of Splinter?
