This is good news. I can't recall the last time I actually spoke the words "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" without just shortening it to TMNT or Ninja Turtles.

These days, both of those are my shorthand for the Turtles, as well. It's an interesting trade-off between canon purity and general pragmatism. Besides, the 4th movie just used "TMNT" to distinguish itself from the others, so why not use the other term?

I'm totally fine with Ninja Turtles. There are certainly many practical reasons for it, and it will be easily distinguishable from the other films in the franchise (as I believe Jester pointed out in another thread). The simpler name will also be better for intentional box office sales.

They clearly dropped the mutant part because they're aliens now.

I really dont mind it. It makes it somewhat easier to differentiate between the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and the upcoming one.
AND i'll be ok with the fact that they arent teenagers(if thats really whats happening) if its done right. I enjoyed Volume 3 and 4 of the comics, so having a post teen turtle isnt that shocking to me.

They were 18 in Volume 3.

This is good, because people won't be confused with the name, think of it this way, the TMNT movie was not exactly the same as the old movies, even though it had a different name. But heres a better way to put it, you guys saw the old spider man movies released. well it all ended with spider man 3. but now they are remaking them, and in stead of calling it spider man, it is now the amazing spider man, just to avoid confusion. so i think the name is changed for that reason, and that reason only!

You're still a teenager at 18.

Or you know because maybe they want to give the title a fresh look for a reboot of the series.... :trazz:

True, i guess i always viewed 18 as the cut off between teen and adult, even though it technically would still be teenager.
When they were twelve did they go around calling themselves the Pre-teen Mutant Ninja Turtles?

This better not be an actual anger inducing thing.

Technically one isn't a contradiction of the other. If you're 18 or 19, you're an adult that is teenaged.

That's a strange question. Aside from passingly (once, I think, ever), the Turtles have never gone around calling themselves any kind of blanket group name.

I like the full title, but who cares about a movie title, as long as it's understandable.

No, it was just a joke. im not trying to push anyone's buttons.

I'm fine with it. I actually suggested it a long time ago. At least maybe it can differentiate itself from all the other movies.

Other than bring the next mutation to mind, this seems to work fine.
The name of the movie really doesn't matter much to me. So long as it makes sense.

I'm cool with just "Ninja Turtles". We've already had two films with the full title, albeit the last one was abbreviated.
I can certainly see where some might suspect it has to do with the boys now being aliens (allegedly) instead of mutants. Time will tell.

Ninja Turtles is better, as some non-fans may not know what TMNT stands for.
TMNT is cooler than MOTU

As long as the turtles ARE teenagers and mutants in the movie, I don't care what the title is.

i for one don't care if they're teenagers. like if you found out one day they were 22 years old that would ruin the franchise to you? what if the turtles aged from 17 to 20 in a tv show? Would you refuse to watch the last season just on principle of them not being teenagers anymore? I mean really. Who cares?

they told the makers that they want it to keep the title simple ...

.....As M. Bay commented they seems still being teenagers:
"Paramount marketing changed the name. They made the title simple. The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie. This script is being developed by two very smart writers, with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles. They care VERY MUCH about making this film for the fans. Everyone on this team cares about the fans. Just give them a chance. Jonathan the director, is a major fan of the whole franchise. HE'S NOT GOING TO LET YOU DOWN.

You know this for a fact dude? Were you present at the marketing meetings?
I'm glad most everybody here doesn't have a problem with this new title. It really isn't that big a deal. When you talk with your friends, you say "I got some rad Ninja Turtles stuff this weekend." or "Can't wait for the new Ninja Turtles cartoon to start." You don't always say the "Teenage Mutant" part, so what's the problem?

they wanted to make it easy for a title so it just Ninja Turtles

i dont see anything wrong with it being called "Turtles" if thats what they wanted to call it as when i talk about the franchise i either say TMNT, Ninja Turtles, or Turtles. For example, Dude, i cant wait for the new turtle series.
