I am curious to what you all think. We have a couple of exciting plots going on and something in the back of my head says Agent Bishop,my favorite character that came out of the 2003 cartoon, could work in the Baxter Stockman/General Krang plot. It just seems to make sense and would like to see him after the Baxter/Krang plot develops. What are your thoughts?

I for one could care less about Bishop and I would rather see them explore more of the turtles and other established characters in the book before introducing anyone else. Because at this point we are almost 9 issues in and don't know a whole lot.

While there have been a few character showcases throughout the various versions we generaly learn about the turtles and supporting characters via how they react to the villains and situations they create.
Not to mention that we pretty much know the characters, they were pretty much set in stone. There's been a few interesting unique traits they've introduced like Raph being less if a hothead (at least so far) and an interesting Leo and Don dynamic but they're more or less how they've always been and always should be.

Not every villian needs a huge storyarc. Tales of the TMNT introduced characters that were one and done and would eventually be integrated into the main story. They kinda did this with Apolex in the Raph mini. Maybe introduce a new bad guy or two that can defeated in a single story in the minis to keep us from waiting forever for new characters to appear.

Agent Bishop would definitely be a great addition to the IDW universe. While I agree that the character would fit right in with the Krang Stockman story arc, I don't really want him debuting anytime soon. Focus on the main villains first, bring on the others later.
Exploring the Turtles' characterizations are way more important than adding another villain. And when they do decide to bring him in, I prefer him not to be as good as Shredder. Shredder is supposedly the apex villain in TMNT, so having someone like Bishop this early on in the series will overshadow Shredder's debut.

If there are aliens like Krang running afoul on Earth, Bishop must surely be monitoring.

I would loved to see Bishop in IDW, I prefer Agent Bishop over the shredder as the the turtles's arch enemy. Bishop For me is the turtles greatest human enemy.

Very true! He would destroy Krang though.

not at all... I'd love to see that as well. I honestly think Bishop could take on Tragg and Granitor too.

Kelendor,I really would hope to have Shredder and Rat King and they both be human as they were and should be.
The whole wholee plot of estracting Splinter's DNA and investigating Krang and his activities just seems to make sense to have Bishop lurking in the shadows. Maybe show up after say #20 but if there is a character out there I think would work with what IDW has done so far its Bishop. And yes, the thought of Bishop vs Krang sounds awesome!

Given the current situation and arc, i wouldn't be surprised if Bishop showed up as a minor character earlier than expected...

Hell, that would be awesome. I want it, for the visual of Bishop taking down Traag with a tie.
We'll see what happens to Krang after this arc, and if not, hey, we still got the Triceratons as a reason for Bishop to appear. He should be around, if not as a Big Bad, like Krang or Shredder, then as a wild card against both sides. It worked well in 2003's Season 4, so why not do it again?

Crazy idea...what about General Blanque as the dictator of The Nuetrios in the D'Hoooib(sp?) solar system and Krang's rival? Agent Bishop intercepted one of Baxter's mutagen samples and found it was of alien properties an observed the action until the time was right kind of how The Guardians did for most of the first season of the 2003 cartoon?

And the Triceratons are a mercenary race, hired by Krang to supplement his army.

Yeah! Zandramon while not the Prime Leader could be the head of the military perhaps in Mozar's post. The Triceratons having accidentally blew up their own planet experimenting with a teleportal device Krang offered to construct an asteriod civilization for them in return for them being his reserve military.
Its so much fun guessing how characters could fit in different continuities!Hope IDW likes a bit of these wacky ideas! I just wish Mirage would have been more open to that.

It'd be more fun if they were pissed at Krang for destroying their world. If Krang is supposed to be an intergalactic threat, he's going to have many enemies.

I think it would be better if the Triceratons were enslaved by Krang and force to work on asteroid fields to supply his military with supplies and even fight for him at times.
The Males would fight while their families would be held hostage..... or something along those lines....
Or Zandramon would lead the triceratons forces fighting for Krang, while he was secretely betraying the triceratons recieving kick back ect from Krang. and Traxamus finds out tries to out him ,but Zandramon outs him as a spy for krang or traitor in general, Traxamus flees to earth meets the turtles ect...

That is pretty much the idea I had for Zandramon. It would be great if any of our ideas in this thread is close to what will happen!
Agent Bishop is a complex character. It would be interesting to see who his allegience would be with.Speaking of three way battles we should get TMNT vs Shredder vs Krang coming soon!

I thought I would bump up this thread for a certain reason. Do you all think it is finally time for IDW to introduce the head of the EPA? If so how would he be most effective IDW's cuurent landscape?

I have a theory, so hear me out: Agent Bishop will be the leader of a Mutant Task Force in the NYPD.
My reasoning is this:
Bobby has recently said that we'll be seeing more of Detective Kara Lewis after Issue #50. Kara has just been brought back, mentioning crazy things she's seen in two years. Her partner Johnson was shocked at the sight of Alopex, and mutants are becoming a bigger and bigger public presence in NYC thanks to Old Hob and the Foot Clan mutants. It's also hugely unlikely that the Dresden Emerald is going to be a big factor going forward, although we may get a callback to its existence and the heist.
So if Kara's around and the NYPD is starting to become more aware of mutants, what better new storyline than a NYPD mutant-hunting task force? And who better to lead it than Bishop, an alien-hating xenophobe dedicated to protecting humanity?
Additionally, this would be great opportunity to focus on Michelangelo. He was sort of friends with Kara, who's a good person but is trying to hunt mutants (thanks to Hob's militaristic tactics and antagonism)... Kara will be torn between doing her job and doing the morally right thing. I can see Mikey trying to protect Slash and the Mutanimals while he's at it. AND for the final card in my winning hand, it'd be a potential opening to introduce Leatherhead and follow up on Null.

That is possible its just I tie Agent Bishop with alien threats not mutant threats. Mutants are merciless experiments to solve te alien problem. There is aleays the Kurt Russell knockoff Dirk Savage for the role you are suggesting. If what you say does happen in some form I bet it will be better executed better with IDW then what Nick does with Bishop.

I don't think Bishop would distinguish between mutant and alien. To him, it's kinda all the same. That was always my impression, anyway.

Are mutants a threat to Earth? That's all you need to ask yourself if you want an answer to that question.

He knew from the start they were genically altered mutations when he met Blanque off screen, but were clearly animals of Earth. He already had Leatherhead. Bishop is no idiot. He wanted a sample of their muated dna to enhance his lab created army to stop aliens.

Oh, you're right! I forgot he already had Leatherhead and had studied him. Plus being allied with General Blanque.
You're putting me to shame with my memory. :tlol: But I still see this as a potential way IDW will reuse Bishop. Perhaps even as a federal liaison to said theorized mutant hunting task force.
Then we get Bishop AND Savage. :tcool:

It just shows you are not putting the season 3 & 4 episode the Nicktoons Network were airing on your DVR that is all. Its one of my three favorite 2003 cartoon arcs and being a Bishop fan and history buff help.
The more I think about it Dirk Savage could work easily especially vs Hob.
The feds are going to have to be involved for Bishop to be. Unless he is like an evil version of Kurtzman from the Nicktoon.
I also like the fact Bishop is a human with a catch not a mutant or an alien. There are too few human opponents for the turtles.

It DOES make sense for Bishop to show up sooner or later. If the end of Shredder is coming in issue #50, we'd need a new antagonist. I'm pretty sure it's going to be Rat King, but Rat King won't last a whole 50 issues, maybe two arcs. Bishop, on the other hand, can have both arcs on Earth and arcs in space.

I like how he can take on multiple opponents at the same and use their weapons against them.
Here are a couple of examples of his interesting fighting technique. Sorry for not using the Youtube option its difficult to do on the go on my iPhone.

The Rat King will be featured more as he is a part of The Pantheon while Leatherhead is said to show up soon. The turtles have yet to meet lady Null either. Still there is room in there somewhere. Right,Tom/ Bobby( waits patiently for either to reply )?

You read my mind, that's my favorite fight scene from that show and the best possible showcase for Bishop's mad skills! :tcool: I still rewatch it every now and then, even after all these years. Hopefully his IDW incarnation will hold up to a similar standard.

I thought I would bring up this old topic to see if anyone had any speculations of Agent Bishop's motives or background compared to what we saw in the 2003 cartoon. What will be different? He seems to be after mutants for a reason other than getting samples to create super soldiers to protect the planet from alien invasion like before. What exactly though would the reason be?

So far it looks like he is just trying to start a war against mutants whether they are good or bad.

His monitoring of Burnow Island and the mutants would suggest that he's aware of a connection between them, so we can't rule out the ol' anti-alien motivation just yet. Hopefully #67 sheds more light on the matter and don't have to wait for the end of Desperate Measures, or even further beyond that.

I remember it taking a season and a half to find out what Bishop's reasoning was through an opening monologue with the alien abduction origin and contemporary of Andrew Jackson. I hope it won't be dragged out in the comics the same. Hope no Nicktoon inspiration will come into play. It seems like there is a stereotypical assumption that mutants are a menace because they are unique therefore must be eliminated. We need more to go on,but that is the impression that is given off. I shrugged off Raphael/Alopex as fan shipping to a past similarity and that was wrong so you never know.
Also CKD, how did it pan out (thus far) in relation to your above theory?
Utrommaniac
01-27-2017, 06:56 PM
I'd say for now that he has no idea that the mutants and the Utroms are connected. Or at least has sneaking suspicions that he can't confirm yet.
