I was just wondering do you guys/girls openly talk about tmnt outside of the forums?
I do if asked I'll admit I still watch it and that I'm into it. I don't make it a secret my friends and family know it.

If you know me more than by "that random person who always carries a sketchbook," then you know I love the turtles. I wear the shirts, the hats, heck even my book bag is shaped like a turtle shell! Why hide what I am? I am fan of the TMNT! Got a problem with it, hope not because there isn't a thing you can do about it!:twink:

Hide it? Heck no! In fact, it's almost something I use to gauge whether or not I'll get along with someone. If they're like "Aw, Ninja turtles, heck yeah!", then they're aces in my book. If someone says "Ninja Turtles? What are you, a nerd? That's baby stuff.", then just keep on walking, I'd rather not even talk to you. lol. :tlol:

I used to. Then I got a ninja turtles hoodie in high school and instead of being made fun of everyone used to compliment me on it. I eventually kept growing my TMNT wardrobe and I was never afraid to cake my room in turtles stuff. No one has ever given me crap for being a TMNT fan. In fact it's opened many doors and lead to a lot of compliments.

I don't hide my fandom either. Whenever I wear TMNT shirts or track jackets or whatever I usually get compliments from people, never any derogative remarks. Probably the most compliments on my TMNT apparell I get are actually from most of my fellow pro wrestlers. Alot of them are TMNT fans too, tho not as much as I am :twink:

I don't hide it, but I don't take every opportunity to put it beyond a reasonable doubt either. It doesn't define me, and I find most TMNT apparel tacky. If I happen to meet someone who wouldn't be bored by a discussion, then I'll bring them up. Otherwise, people don't know I'm a fan unless they just pay that much attention.

To me, it's a sport. If it pops up unexpectedly, then I might mention how much I enjoyed it as a kid. I just don't want to get punished for it, especially at work. I just don't feel that TMNT isn't "eternally cool for all ages" like Spiderman, Batman, and even GI Joe and Transformers are as of yet, but hopefully the next wave and fatherhood eventually will change all that.

My immediate family knows I like TMNT and so does my BF. I actually got him back into TMNT, and we always talked about the latest 2K3 episode at school. But other members of my family don't know I like it, and I feel it's none of their business if I do. Now, if someone were to ask me what I'm into, I'd definitely put Ninja Turtles on my list. But other than that, I really haven't told anyone else about it.

I think it's silly to feel ashamed or feel like you have to hide any aspect of who you are or what you like.
My philosophy always has been if you think something I like is dumb...or if you think I'm not fitting in to whatever mold you think is "normal"....then just move along. There's no law saying you have to be my friend and I'm not changing who I am for anybody.

I don't hid it exactly, but it's not a topic that comes up all that often, and almost every time it does it's me mentioning/referencing something. Only two of my friends really know anything about the TMNT franchise. My family of course knows, they had to deal with me as a kid, lol...
With the new show and movie on their way, I might be more open/bring it up more often in conversation.

I agree. I dont openly force my love for tmnt on others by randomly bringing it up all the time while i am working or out with new people but I would not pretend I didnt love them if it was ever brought up because being a tmnt fan is part of who I am, if people dont like me for me they dont have to be my friend.

I'm pretty much the same way. Its not something I openly advertise, but I don't own any type of Turtle apparel, so that is not even really an opportunity to show it off. However, my close friends and family know, and if it happens to come up in conversation with new people, more than willing to make it the hot topic of conversation!
Admittedly, my "extra" comforter for the winter is a TMNT 2K3 print, and I have gotten a lot of ribbing from family whenever they happen to see it laying on my bed in the middle of January. When its cold, its a two comforter night, and more than happy to snuggle under the boys!. :tgrin:

Indeed Jeff,
But the trick is to learn that the opinions of those people Absolutely Do Not Matter. That is a solid lesson to apply to everything in life, not just the fandom. The people who would judge you can only influence you as much as you allow them to.

I didn't talk about it much once I became a teenager then it kind of went in the down low then when I was 18 and went into the Army I told alot of people about the Turtles( actually a few years later when we got back from a tour after some liquid encouragement some of my buds dared me to get a turtle tat) It ended up being a turtle with a sword with a spartan type battle helmet on..... don't know why I added the helmet but it still looks cool none the less........ Actually got alot of guys back into the Turtles, tried to show some Iraqi Terps the movies but they didn't get it at all.
I'll tell most people about it now but not alot of people seem to be big fans and what's sad is alot of little kids 10 and under seem to not even know what they are, hopefully the new nicktoon will be good and start another generation of fans..... Funny thing is I'm in my mid twenties now and can't wait for the tmnt nick show, it's probably been close to 15 years since I've watched nick except for an occansional spongebob!!

Nah, I'm a tmnt fan and proud of it. I don't wear tmnt gear, have a tmnt tat, or have my car decked out in tmnt propaganda, (nothing wrong with any of that, I think its all cool, just not my thing though) but I do freely talk about my passion for tmnt and show off the custom figures that I make to those I work with. I was in middle school at the height Turtle's popularity in the early 90s, and even though they were insanely popular at the time, it was basically the same response. The funny part was that even though I am positive at least 50% or more of the school population were as nuts about them as I was, it was the "cool" thing to do to completely put them down and make fun of anyone who openly admitted they liked them! Middle school is just weird, and kudos to you for staying with who you are!

I see a lot of responses "I'm proud to show off I'm a fan of TMNT!" but honestly speaking, most people are ignorant idiots and look down on you for having "geeky" interests. I'm not ashamed to admit my geeky interests per se, but that's all I leave it at with casual people, "Oh I like comic books and TMNT...ya know, my 'Geeky interests'." Tho this day and age, esp. in my town, 'geeky', sci-fi, retro stuff, seems to be 'in', so I don't feel as bad about admitting it to people anymore.

Yeah, I disagree with your first sentence, and agree with your last one, Lawl.
"Geek" culture being un-cool pretty much died with the 90's. Now you have 100,000 people attending Comic Cons. With mass media embracing the culture, you're weird if you DON'T have some "nerd property" that you latch on to.

Since nostalgia is in, admitting you still pay any attention to the TMNT is more socially acceptable than it was in middle school, when it would have lead to ridicule.

I Think we should just focus on what we like regardless of what the other like or dislike, since they seem to never make up their mind on what's cool or uncool..
For example .. I remember people bugging me for liking my little ponies in elementary.. And now that I don't particularly care for them , they seem to be all the rage or something.. I don't remember being bothered by liking the turtles and I'm glad since that's what really stuck to me till now.

Easier said then done when you're ten to eleven and every classmate have "outgrown" anything that is remotely "nerdy" or "childish". Teachers rarely cared when it came to bullying as long as it didn't go physical.
the reason I wasn't picked on as much as other kids, was mainly that I was known as the kid who could whoop others almost twice my age.
But also being the last TMNT fan of my class had some nice things too, a few friends did give me some of their stuff since they knew I liked TMNT, such as TMNT pogs, mini mutants and even buying a game Boy game for around 1/5th of the price.

But also being the last TMNT fan of my class had some nice things too, a few friends did give me some of their stuff since they knew I liked TMNT, such as TMNT pogs, mini mutants and even buying a game Boy game for around 1/5th of the price.
did i ever tell you guys i hate school? kids these days, they don't know whats good for them!

In all honesty, it depends on my mood at the time, lol!!!!
I’m a typical moody girl!!!!!
When I was in school though… I learned to keep my love for TMNT to myself. I was the only TMNT fan after the Power Rangers came out…
(This is why I hate power Rangers, They stole my friends!!!!)

No i dont hide it . Not at all! I am VERY PROUD that i am a Turtles fan. All of my friends and members of my family know that i am fan of tmnt and some of them like them too. What makes me sad is that my mother and my girlfriend dont like tmnt at all and while i have try very hard to make them understand how cool TMNT is they still dont like it. My mother says that TMNT is only for little kids that are less than 10 years old. And my girlfrined that i have watched with her some episodes of both the 1987 and 2003 series(she didnt know anything about TMNT before she met me) says that it is very violent and scary and because of that she dont want to watch more episodes anymore.:(:(:(
We must be proud of TMNT and talk to evryone we know about it. Only if we do it we will get more people to watch the Nickelodeon TMNT and also more people will become fans of it. We must NEVER hide that we are TMNT fans.,because that will make us feel bad.

Does she know about the Mirage comics? And does that girlfriend really know to differ the 1987 and 2003 universes apart. 1987 is a comedy show, based on 1950's and 60's science fiction movies plots.

i feel you Dr. Stockman... my mother thinks i'm too old for TMNT also. but she knows how important TMNT is in my life... so she doesn't shoot it down. But my girlfriend would love to watch the Turtles with me... and she supports my interests. But i guess your girlfriend is just sensitive to violence.

Hell, my BF loves the Turtles as much as I do and will always watch the episodes with me when we're together. Heck, I missed "The Ultimate Ninja" due to a family funeral, but I went to my BF's house afterwards because they were going to take me out to eat for my birthday. He had the episode recorded, so we watched it together. It was so cool.

we have watched together the first season of 1987 show and 10 episodes of the 2003 show. she said that she lives the 1987 show more than the 2003 but she also told me that she dont like any of them enough to watch them from begining till the end

I get the feeling my mom thinks the same way, but she never comes out and says it. She tends to mask it as my sister's opinion instead of her own, which really annoys me!

Have you tested the "Lost Queen of Atlantis"? Set in Greece.
And Jephael, your mother must know of the Mirage Comics. You live in the USA, where adult-aimed comics are much more well-established. And you Jephael, are one of the world's most famous TMNT fans.
I had no idea of comics aimed at an older audience until late 2003-early 2004 when I searched the Internet for TMNT, just for fun. I knew there were some older people who liked comics and cartoons, but that was OK (my aunt liked the 1987 show), but until that Christmas I only know comics and cartoons being aimed for kids as main-audience. TMNT too me was the 1987 show, Archie and UK Hero Turtles comics, as well as "three movies who culdn't follow the storyline..." (and maybe also Next Mutation). I already knew TMNT started as a comic book by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird back in 1984 before becoming a cartoon in 1987, and of course, I thought these comics were Archie.
But that Christmas, I was reading at the Internet, and some days later, nothing felt like before. Some weks later, I discovered TMNT fan fiction, some of it was your website.

Because back then television shows like Friends and Cheers made it look like lots of fun, but as soon as we reached that age, we learned the sad, sad truth!
Dang. That's gold.
As for me, I don't have a problem with people knowing. In fact, this is what happened when my interest in TMNT was questioned some time last year. See, I was at my mother's house, and the first movie was showing. So I had a look at it.
Mom: What's that?
Me: Ninja Turtles.
Mom: You still haven't grown out of Ninja Turtles yet?
Me: Not many people have.
Seriously. I love being a turtle...fan. I mean, how can I not, after seeing this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm3sC-OVfdw)?

It depends really. As a kid I was being made fun of for still liking the turtles when their popularity started to fade, so it takes some time for me to "confess" to people I'm just getting to know that I'm into them. It's not the first topic I start when I meet new people. Some of my best friends knows I'm into them and they've got no problem with it.

i personally never EVER hide my love for the turtles from anyone at all, never have and never will. No one should feel ashamed for liking the turtles, because they're original creative entities that spark all kinds of imagination. I'm very much a fan of Movie 1, and movie 2, as well as the original cartoon series and comic books.
as a kid, i wrote a letter to the turtles, and dropped it down into a sewer manhole near my home, and waited and hoped they were real and would come up to the surface, hahha
