Ninja Turtles have long evolved past that thankfully.
* How do you like Splinter in your action scenes?
Its best to see him active as the first line of reinforcement when fighting the bad guys.
* Best Splinter portrayed?
2003 Splinter does the role of mentor and fights more than in other versions os far.
* Taller or shorter than Turtles?
This one I never thought about! Slightly smaller I guess.
* Hamato or his rat?
It does not really matter but I like the idea of direct conflict with Shredder if he is Hamato Yoshi himself and it removed the chain of murder.

* 1984 Comic states he raised the turtles for revenge.
This is my standard for Splinter, its pretty universal that he raised the turtles for revenge of Saki/Shredder, and is agreeable. I don't want a Splinter that raises the turtles just for pleasure.
* How do you like Splinter in your action scenes?
I prefer Splinter to be a strong fighter, who may not be as agile as the turtles but is more wise with regards to the best method of attack and defense.
* Best Splinter portrayed?
Mirage Splinter. I wish movie Splinter was in action more despite having the best actor of all Splinters.
* Taller or shorter than Turtles?
About the same height, or just a little bit shorter.
* Hamato or his rat?
Hamato Yoshi. I find it a bit more interesting that in the OT/IDW, a human mutated is a curse that needs to be resolved in some way. The Hamato Killed/pet rat Splinter is good too as it forces Splinter to start anew, learning that new families need to be raised.

Worst Splinter was Movie 4's Splinter. He sounded like he was on a fifth of Jack Daniels the whole time.

* 1984 Comic states he raised the turtles for revenge.
yes, and over time he grows fatherly bonds with them.
* How do you like Splinter in your action scenes?
as little as possible. Splinter is old and lacks the stamina of youth, he should be efficient in combat, taking out an opponent in as few punches as possible but he'd only last against a handful enemies before he fatigues.
* Best Splinter portrayed?
Mirage tied with movie 1
* Taller or shorter than Turtles?
slightly shorter
* Hamato or his rat?

1. Yes, and while that is a valid reason for teaching them ninjitsu, I kind of feel that it's the wrong reason for him to teach the Turtles ninjitsu. I think a better reason would have been that the outside world is dangerous and that they would have to defend themselves. While the revenge plot is understandable, it makes me feel sorry for the Turtles to have to be raised in that manner. I've never really read the comics though. Maybe if I did, I'd get a better understanding of Splinter in that medium.
2. I like for Splinter to be a formidable fighter and not just sitting around making the Turtles do all the work. I like it when he's protective of his sons and teaches them to fight while aiding them in battle.
3. I'd say 2K3 Splinter has been the best for me. I liked his bond with his sons and how he fought alongside them when they needed him.
4. It really doesn't matter to me. Both mediums work in different instances, though I did prefer the rat to him being human.

* How do you like Splinter in your action scenes?
A formidable fighter, but up in age so he's not as strong as he used to be.
* Best Splinter portrayed?
The Archie comics. I loved the backstory they gave him!
* Taller or shorter than Turtles?
same height
* Hamato Yoshi or his rat?
I like him as the mutated Hamato Yoshi

1. I really dont like the raise only for revenge aspect. I prefer the father figure from the get go.
2. I like him to stay out of the way untill they really need him. Then let him kick azz.
3. 4kids
4. shorter
5. doesnt matter to me.

Someone hasn't seen many episodes of Nostalgia Critic I take it, where NC gets a ton of heat from viewers for criticizing Mako's voice. :twink:
My favorite Splinter is from the first movie. I prefer the loving father figure over the rat that raised the turtles for revenge.
I think one thing I'll remember about the cartoon Splinter is the sushi. I remember as a kid thinking that sushi was going to be so gross because everyone on the cartoon always said that. Then it turns out that the stuff is great, although maybe in the sewers it wasn't the freshest. :)

1) Standard Splinter. But i like to think that him evolving into a father figure is what makes the revenge aspect mellow down a bit. Revenge is key to Hamato-Oroku war. So i'd rather not remove that part of him.
2) I prefer him to be awesome in battle... but not like a Yoda (his skills contradict to the old-man-walking, that's kind of stupid IMHO). Awesome in battle but only when he is needed. Wise enough to know where to hit and how hard.
3) 4kids Splinter had the best portrayal.
4) Slightly shorter.
5) I much prefer him being the pet rat. But i'm okay with him being Yoshi himself (but only through reincarnation... i don't really understand how he completely turned into a rat in OT. He should've been more human with rat features than full-on rat.)
Worst Splinter was Movie 4's Splinter. He sounded like he was on a fifth of Jack Daniels the whole time.
I think Mako's voice was pretty good. Considering Splinter is from Japan, it made sense that he had a Japanese accent. Perfectly voice... to me.

Im definitely not a fan of Splinter being a rat originally. It completely takes out the pathos of the character. Even ignoring whatever origins he was given, just the fact alone that he was a man who now has to suffer being in rats body and hiding from society really adds to the character tremendously.

I know it's Mirage canon that Splinter was a rat first, but I have to say I prefer the OT's origin story better; it's a rare instance (at least for me) where the OT improves upon the original. It has never made sense to me that a rat would have the requisite intelligence and comprehension to understand human affairs, let alone learn Ninjitsu.
I also don't like the idea of the Turtles being raised solely for revenge, and I'm not sure I agree that that was Splinter's intent. In the Mirage comics he even states he's not sure why he rescued the Turtles from the ooze and took them under his wing. I think he just felt protective of them and maybe wanted companionship. The Ninjitsu training was a natural follow-up because it's all he knew and obviously it would help them avoid being seen. Anyway, I like that idea better than Splinter having some kind of calculated, long-term plan to raise them as cold-blooded killers.

I have the same feeling it just seems cheesy in the first movie when the rat splinter is doing the moves from his cage..... It makes more sense if he was a person first that got mutated... it would explain how he even would know ninjitsu and how he could raise the turtles.........
On a side note say you go off the version that he was a rat that was mutated and rasied the turtles I understand they all got smarter but that doesn't explain how they could learn anything from the sewers....minus TV I guess which makes you wonder how they even got tv in the sewer to begin with it's the early 90s so I'm assuming they didn't pay for cable or a dish so they would only have an antenna which wouldn't get signal to begin with that deep underground....... I know it's make believe just makes you think!!

i think it makes more sense if splinter is hamato... notices that he can't possibly understand honor or even reason as a normal rat...

He had a great voice actor. I love that scene where he walks in humming a japanese song.

To be honest i like evry splinter. If he joins the bastle you know it welcome hardcore now. In the 2k3 series i was really bad surprised by the voice of splinter, but iam getting used to it and now it is hard for me getting used to the 80 s splinter voice again. The new nick splinter is really good although i dont like that He is taller than the turtles
The head of the new Splinter really took some time to get used too. That hair is so much darker than previous incarnations of the character.
On the whole idea of Splinter's backstory, I must agree that Splinter becoming a rat, after being human, helps to create a better character, and better conflict.
