My parents' relationship with technology is pretty funny. When I was younger (11 or 12) I thought I was a damned genius because at the time I understood how to use computers faster/more efficiently than my parents (and they were grown ups!!) When they got a new computer the family one went to me, and whenever we'd fight and they'd try to restrict my computer usage, I'd use theirs to Google how to bypass whatever roadblock they'd set up for me. And I thought I was f*cking invincible, but my parents just didn't realize I could do that.

My mom got a laptop a couple years later and has since become pretty tech-savvy for a mom, I guess. My brother pointed out something to me the other day- he said that when my mom first made a Facebook she was really unimpressed and thought it was "childish" that people were sending her virtual beers or whatever middle aged people do on Facebook. But about a year or two later (this year) my cat had surgery and when my mom was texting my brother about it, she said, and I quote "*does a happy dance*" ...which is really weird.

Also, my dad treats texting more so like instant messaging.. so when I get a text from him it usually just says "hello." Except for this gem:

My father have gotten really Computer fascinated these past couple of years, mostly due to his business and his family research. Which have revealed so much interesting things about our family tree (traitors/terrorists, Viking Kings, Slavers, priests etc)

But mostly he sends often pervy jokes via email

My parents are still young, so they've had time to adjust to stuff.

My dad was like 30 when we got our first computer and he's been pretty capable with electronics, but newer stuff slips him up a bit more often, not a lot but more than it has in the past. I got him an iPad3 for his 50th this year and he caught on pretty quick.

My mom likes to watch Little House on the Prairie on VHS. That's about as technological as she gets. It's like she got to a certain point where she was comfortable with electronics, then stopped caring. She can e-mail and do basic internet surfing, but a complete lack of interest keeps her from caring about much else.

My mom isn't good with technology, but my Dad is great with it! He loves all kinds of gizmos and gadgets.

I'm already an IT guy at work, I don't want to be IT at home anymore.

It really all depends. I know some programs better than my parents, and my mom especially, since she works in an office, knows a whole lot more than I do about the Office programs. I know if they need audio/video software help, they'll turn to me, but if I have a question about cell formatting in Excel, I'm gonna bug my mom.

My dads 43, and knows how to use a computer with the best of them. Textile on the other hand he hates. I was txting him one day and after a few msg he responded, this is a phone not a f**king typewriter. So I called him.

My mom is a texting fiend. Dad, not so much, but then again, dad, despite his associates in computer science, can't type for beans.

Although...I once ended a Facebook status with "FTW" (For the Win!) and my mom said responded with an angry "Oh?" thinking it meant "Eff the World"...

My grandma went to dicks dot com once instead of dickssportinggoods dot com... She really likes to tell everyone that story to this day.

Jester, I can see where she would make that mistake. I thought FTW meant F*ck the world for the longest time until someone told me differently. Then again, it still can mean that if you aren't computer literate.

Mom does Facebook and is on the computer, but my dad is not computer savvy. He uses it for e-mail and other stuff, but he has a hard time understanding the concept of it.
