I need to know what movie this image is from so I can take a screenshot from one of the blurays of the movie that I ordered. If this is from one of the movies that is. Could be promo shot or something so no sure. I plan on doing a oil painting of it but want the best quality with great detail. I will post my progress on the painting as well. It will takes months to complete sense I paint in the style of the old masters working in layers but can post each layer I complete. Thanks guys.

It's a promo picture from TMNT 2. It's not a scene in the movie.

Rose got to me first! If she says so that's Definetely it ;).

Quick reply! Do you guys know where I could find a higher res of this image? I can only find that one image on google image search.

It's a promo picture used for TMNT 2, but it doesn't appear on screen....

Too slow....um....what Rose said... :D

As for a larger image, unless a fan here has the pic, the biggest I see online is 590x300, and I think that's the same size as yours.

That is a bummer:( Really want to paint this but not in that quality.Im looking to do fairly fine detail without the pixels and blurriness.I could use my artistic skill and make the fine detail myself but I would rather get it strait from the image.

Biggest I could find. 750 x 380.

I don't understand how an oil painting could end up pixelated.

I think he means that he wants to know exactly what he is painting, down to the tiny details so that while he paints he can be extremely accurate
At least that's what I got from it

Um me either, maybe there using a conversion program on a computer that makes it look like a oil painting?

Not using a program to make into a digital oil painting. I am looking to make a real life like oil painting of this. If the close up detail is blurry then my painting will be blurry unless I guess what it could look like.I like this image a lot and gives a painting movement.Makes it feel more alive.
Thanks Nintendophile. Its not only the quailty but the color seems a little off as well. The contrast I think it is. Thinking is from the source. I might just give this a try anyways even if it looks like this.Just wondering if there was a better version out there. I am surprised there isnt any other images of this on the net considering its a promo ad lol. I know it wouldnt be on the internet at that time but thought there would be scans of it.
Think this is from a magazine at the time?

I wonder if it was on a lobby card, but a lot of those are black and white...

Does anyone have a good, larger, scan?

Just add the details as you go along. If you're skilled enough to do oil paintings, then I imagine you're skilled enough to "fake" the details. Plus, if there's no higher resolution out there, then no one will know if your details aren't "accurate" anyway, since they don't have a high-res version to compare it to. :twink:

I can manage the detail myself but now when I think about its the contrast and color that messes with me the most. I can paint but never did something like this so kinda scary lol. Done mainly still life and landscapes. Just getting back into painting:) Its not a big deal but thought there would be a better version out there but guess not. Its fine though Ill give it a go.
This image is still somewhat a mystery to me lol. Going to try and find out what its from exactly. Im guessing it is from a magazine someone scanned and adjusted some settings in Photoshop and put it online or could be a image from extras of the dvd or bluray possibly.

If you can click "View Image" you could post the image link....maybe, cause I can't find the picture from here either.

I found them. They're tif files, so that might be why you're having trouble. Very cool find (although I suspect I've seen that before, only to forget it existed).

I re-uploaded it here (https://www.box.com/s/eb1e4c08163ff2f18afc) just in case, though it's still a tif. Gimp gave me fits about converting it to jpg. Look forward to the painting pics!

I work with photoshop for a living, so i took the TIF file, cleaned it up, sharpened, brought out some detail and saved it as a pretty big file :) 17MB

You know, until I saw the large image, I never realized how ravenous and slightly terrifying Leo's eyes are!

dude3585
05-22-2012, 05:08 PM
Ya I didnt know till I already started to paint that leo's eyes are looking at nothing. I think the person in the costume couldnt see the pizza move so hes just staring into space lol.Thats my guess anyways.

Thanks everyone.Glad you are all liking it.
Here is the finished dead layer.Dead layer is the old master method of getting the tones before adding thin layers of color if anyone is wondering.
Gotta wait for this to dry then the color. Hope it all turns out good.

I wish I could have half the skills you have here! With this in mind, maybe you could do other scenes from the movies/cartooons as well. I'm sadly mostly just a passive doer than a real creator. One question though: what was the most difficult part of creating this painting (aside from perhaps the coloring)?

dude3585
06-06-2012, 07:34 PM
Thanks for the support on this.
I do plan on doing other movie scenes. Right now im working on a portrait of bane from Dark Knight Rises while my tmnt dries.Never done a portrait before so I hope that goes well.
The hardest part was probably trying to get the tones correct as much as I could. The hands gave me a lot of trouble. Getting the lighting right was difficult because I think there is 2 light sources from the image and confused me. Light or studio lamp to the far right and one in the front somewhat to the right.Thats my guess anyways.
