View Full Version : Why was my thread locked?
Grimlock

Why is it that a thread is locked even though people are being civil to each other?I started that thread to sort out the problems that some members have with me and I have with them. I said stuff that most people are thinking but are afraid to say . Why do mods here try and silence a conversation that has not gtten out of hand? Wow. Way to go. Are we not adults?
The Mods around here do't do anything but abuse their own frakin' power. If I am being civil and trying to discuss something I feel is an issue with this community, why am I being silenced? I am breaking no rules but still this forum protects it's ''high ranking'' members and we who speak the truth are put to the side like garbage. Did I just come out and say I hate this place and everyone here? No. I didn't. But some people I guess get the special treatment and as soon as I try and call them out, my thread gets locked.
Not all the mods, but a select few here just are not very fair.

Because you were being an outright a**hole about it by calling some of the members out like that. It was rude what you said about Gobo, Jester, and the others that you called out. You were't being civil at all the way I read it. So, that's why they locked it. And like Nines said, if you don't like what happens here, just leave. I admit, I've gotten into disagreements with members before, but I'm not going to let that stop me from enjoying this place and the rest of the people here. If you don't want to deal with these people, then just ignore them. Plain and simple.

For starters it was off-topic, having nothing whatsoever to do with TMNT.
If you can't see where a thread like that was heading, calling out members trying to incite an argument, then you are blind. Take it to a PM or something.

If you are that sensitive, use your own advice and don't be affected by my thread. I wanted to confront the problems I have with some people on here, problems that I know for a fact other people have, but I guess some people just can't deal with it on here. I'm not leaving. I'll stick around. Unless of course they ban me, which wouldn't really suprise me now.

The problem is that you called out specific members and started blasting them. Now, if you wanted to state that you had a problem with certain members but didn't want to name any names, that would've been fine. But you called out the people and used the wrong section as well. You were just being a jerk. I call it like I see it. I'm not being sensitive about anything, I'm just telling you why your thread was locked. Get over it.

Welcome to The Technodrome Forums! In order to keep the boards running smoothly, we ask that you follow these basic rules:
2. Please respect other members. Attacking or harassing other members on the forums is not allowed. This includes trolling (posting with the intention of upsetting people and/or starting arguments). If you get into an argument with another member, please take it to email/PM/IM and keep it off the forums.
11. Decisions made by administrators and moderators are generally final. However, if you disagree with a decision that affects you directly, you're free to discuss it with an administrator or moderator via PM or email. Please don't post complaints about any decisions on the forums, though.
Don't like 'em, go away.

Grimlock I think your thread go locked mostly bc people were not being objective or civil
But Grimlock I agree with your original thread, I think longer standing members make new members feel like outsides.... I don't think most of them do it purposefully though..... Older member have developed certain relationships with certain members and actually enjoy communicating with those members....
But I also agree with what Powder said about some new members exploiting the buy/sell thread and not actually want to be apart of the community......
I am sorry that new members feel like outsiders.....but I think we all need to be considerate of everyone on here

The facebook page is not an official extension of this site. It is completely unofficial. Shredder and Krang have nothing to do with it. So to take something from the facebook page (which is pretty much jam packed full of the people you hate) and bring it back here to make a stink about it... was probably the wrong call.

As a result to this debacle, we are going to be going out of our way to label the facebook page as unofficial, so that there is no misunderstanding in that regard. Aside from that, I don't see anything wrong with the facebook group. We only use "The Technodrome" to identify where the group of people come from. If there WAS an official technodrome facebook page that was moderated and such, I could see there being an issue with the unofficial one, but there isn't.

Yes. It is. But anything could be used for that. I send msgs to members on MSN, Skype, or AOL instant messenger all the time talking **** about other people. Or private messages on here for that matter.
It's a group discussion to talk about whatever. Sometimes other members are a topic. Lots of times they aren't. You can't just quell freedom of speech (especially on the internet) simply because a certain topic may come up that other people don't like.

But, in the case of the group in question, it isn't 12 year old elitist jerks attacking the new people, the new people aren't there. It's the 12 year old elitist jerks, being elitist jerks to each other.
If it were an official group, or even an open group, and new people were showing up and were greeted with "Go **** Yourself, newb" I would agree with you. But that just isnt the case.

See, that's what I'm talking about. Offhand comments that anyone new is young or whatever. And yes, we should as veteran members be understanding of new fan's questions or the fact that they might not have read Mirage books or whatever. We should not jump down their throats if they post a new thread on a topic that has been covered in a thread that's been dead awhile. And we should be willing to answer questions nicely without being condescending or snobbish. A lot of that group does act that way.

I think we are talking about two different things. You seem to be focused on the veteran conduct on the forum, and I am talking about the facebook group. Two totally different issues.
I agree that there sometimes is a degree of overreaction when it comes to new people breaking the rules or having poor internet etiquette on the forum. Which is almost exclusively when you find new people getting their throats jumped down. Vets don't usually RANDOMLY attack a new person, they tend to do it when the person joins with the soul purpose of promoting a product, or when they try to sell something before their post count allows it, or when they flood a subsection with threads etc. Very seldom do you see someone attacked simply for being new. But as I said, I agree that the vets don't use kid gloves when interacting with new people as often as they should.
However; the facebook group cannot be judged by any of these standards. It exists outside of thetechnodrome.com and is in no capacity an official construct. The fact that the people there are from this site is neither here nor there. It would be like if I invited friends that I knew from a coffee shop over to my house, and then got mad at them for not wanting to buy coffee from me.

Sure, Revan....and I personally find all the "I think (insert female cartoon character) is hot" threads are silly too.....but that's how forums go. Rather have some goofy threads being started than a dead forum.
Everyone was new to the fandom at one point. Don't forget that and don't forget that it's a good thing that people who may not know a lot about the franchise are interested enough to come here and talk about it.
Achron, you can argue the differences of the Facebook thread until you're blue in the face. In my observation the sh!t that goes on there is carried forward to the forums including the behavior to people who don't have the knowledge that we might have. And I'm not disagreeing with you. It totally happens (though usually its the other way around: Things start here and carry over there so we can talk about it with impunity). I'm just saying to get mad because mutual friends have decided to start a group on a completely unrelated site to talk about whatever they deem discussion worthy... is pretty silly

Some new member in that thread agreed that this place can be hostile at times.
I agree, things can be a bit pointlessly hostile at times (key words there being "at times"). However I would also say that it's better to add those hostiles to your ignore list and move on. From my past experience on boards/forums just like this one, it's always better to just ignore those that seem intent on being argumentative over anything, than it is to give them more reasons to continue their behavior.
Simply put, this site gives you the advantage of an ignore list. Might as well put it to good use.

It's posts like this that make me wish that the Drome had a "Like" button...you know...like Facebook.

Ouch... I chat with my friends about our mutual annoyances and the way we do that is Facebook rather than an IM chat or other forum....man...that's sooooo terrible.
Someone got touchy reeeeaaaaal quick.
Oh no! How ever will I recover from being talked about! On facebook no less! By an esteemed panel of.....ninja turtle fans! Oh boy! My life shall be in sham-bells!

Unfortunately some people actually feel this way, otherwise we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I'm getting really sick of people bringing up Facebook arguments on the forums. See Rule 12, and deal with your Facebook problems elsewhere. Enough already.

People called me an internet terrorist and claimed I should be hung for things they thought I said during an AIM chat. I received PM's and e-mails threatening me from that sh*t, kids.
Funny how when there's proof of something similar and people admit to it that it's no big deal.

i really dont see why it is anyone's business what people say in private (and yes, the fb group is private). quite frankly as amusing as parts of this thread have been no one should have to justify what they say to their friends- you have no jurisdiction over the thoughts of another person...and as long as their comments aren't slanderous or threatening i dont really see why it is a big deal.

when I was new, I never felt the forums as threatening or hostile, it's a matter of getting used to the existing community and not take it way too serious.
What sticks in my mind mostly of this thread, isn't the FB whining, or the rules reminding. it's how douche it is to call someone "son"

I personally have no problem with that group if all they did was talk. But I witnessed what goes on with my own eyes an that is the impression I have now. When there is a hot disscussion going on where a member says something to the effect of "I wish I had the balls to say this to his face" then others who are part of the conversation begin posting here to specifically antagonize the subject of that conversation. That I have a problem with.
Someone who disagreed was banned from the group. The subject of the in forum trolling finds out the group and sees the conversation behind the harassing posts and immediately the group is made private.
But you're just friends. Those people are the "nice ones" here. Whatever.

I'm not going to continue this conversation here per Krang's request, but I have screenshots of what actually happened during that incident that you "remember", if you'd like to see them. Because what happened is...not that.

And **** ya both, she was the one who said about mr.69 not me. And the reason I said you can shorten my name is people where getting on her about shorting grimlocks name and I shorten peoples names all the time. Jason becomes j Tiffany becomes tiff.
I also said I confused her for another poster that said they where 18 in the pic thread. So you both can lick the bag.
Per da rules I'm done with this argument you got anything else to say pm me.

Grimlock is cool as far as I'm concerned. Saying true things isn't dickish from where I stand. The 'casuals' garbage is obnoxious and sad.
Also his opinions on Gobo and Jester are respectable.
