View Full Version : IDW's Triceratons?

Spurred by Fugitoid Jones' thread about IDW's potential take on his namesake, I thought I'd create a thread dedicated to IDW's (potential) treatment of our favorite race of horn-heads.
In the aforementioned thread, I mentioned the thought that IDW could do to the Triceratons what Platinum Dunes MIGHT do to the Turtles only in reverse. Do you think this would be a possibility, or am I just being silly? I mean, didn't the Triceraton's card during the original Playmates run in the 90's call them mutants and not aliens? Heck, was the original Playmates Triceraton the only one, according to the info card?

In the IDW continuity...don't all their mutants come directly from animals? So in order to do what youre suggesting...They're need to find...a Triceratops?

Or figure some way to use Dino-DNA....
They probably won't do that anyway, I just figured it could get the ball rolling.

I feel a spoof of Jurassic Park in the making.

nah... i don't think they'll stray too far away from the original source. since there are alien (at least from another dimension?) there is bound to be space travel in this continuity. alien triceratons are my guess.

I would be down to see the Triceratons in this book, but I don't have a level of attachment for them that makes me care about their origin.

If they were to make them mutants in IDW, they'd have to do some Jurassic Park s*** and have them extract the triceratops dna from an embryo or something. I'd rather have them be aliens, but if they can make the whole dino-mutant thing work, then all the power to them. Either way, I'd love to see me some IDW Triceratons!
p.s., I was reading the Mirage vol.1 Fugitoid one shot the other day, and noticed that the first half of the book, they're called Triceratrons, but then the second have is the proper Triceratons. Was this a simple mix up, or did Pete and Kevin decide to change the names halfway through the book and just forgot to go back and edit it?

Since its too much to copy and paste different quotes I will just link my thread about Agent Bishop:http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showthread.php?t=37284
I can see them conquered by Krang and Zandramon be the triceraton that answers to Krang and whom he has cut a deal with and Traximus be the one to try to rise up against Krang holding them under his thumb... or um tentacle and out Zandramon getting a postion with Krang and several riches. It might be cool to see rock soliders fighting alongside triceratons.

I wouldn't mind a mutant Triceraton. Hell, they can take the Leatherhead route and make him sort of an anti-hero. Team up with the turtles. And name him Zog. Because Zog is a badass.

Personally I hope they go a similar way as Mirage and 4Kids, with the turtles ending up across the galaxy leading to a Triceraton invasion of earth.
Though this should only happen much later really.
I would love to see some alien Triceratons in IDW. I'm a big fan of space-hopping turtles stories. :)

Or figure some way to use Dino-DNA....
Maybe an archaeologist digging up some dino-bones somehow comes across the ooze. Last thing he touch was a bone from a triceratops so he becomes a Triceraton.

I had thought that the race that destroyed the utrom homeworld in that flashback was the Triceritons. They could be both mutants and aliens; imagine if, millions of years ago, the utroms came to earth during our Cretatious period, and took Tricertops DNA. Using the mutagen, they created a servant/slave race that eventually rebelled, and overthrew them.
If they ever introduce them to the IDW universe, they had to find a different way, then what it was in Mirage originals & 4kids, since the Fugitoid is now a Neutrino and Krang and Rock Soldiers kinda took the place of the Triceratons/Federation, as an empire which pursues Honeycutt.
Tho it would be interesting if they would make it a Krang vs Triceratons war instead of Federation vs Triceratons.
About Triceratons being mutants, I don't really like it, and I also can't see what advantage would this have for writing the storyline. One change that would work is if they were from Dimension X, not simply from space. (in case if their introduction would be releated to Krang somehow)

That's actually sounds kinda cool this way. (If you into Starcraft, it's a similar way how the Xel'Naga manipulated the evolution of Protoss & Zerg.)

I think we'll see something like Krang trying to make a deal with the Triceraton empire or something.

Kinda don't wanna see the Triceratons unless they go for a whole differrent story. Fugitoid kinda got away with a semi-different story cause they made him pose as Chet and threw in Krang, Dimension X and the Neutrinos. I don't really know why people want to see the same stories again. Even though Cityfall is similar to City at War, it will be different with the characters involved. So unless they can bring the Triceratons without re-telling their story from Mirage, I really don't want to see them.

They cant really do the fugitoid hunt story anymore without being redundant. My guess is that they have some connection to utrominon. The whole utroms enslaving them for gladiatoral amusement, rebellion nearly decimates utrom race, coward krang flees, destroys a planet with some sort of weapon thing sounds good... well to me anyway. Instead of hunting down the fugitoid... they can hunt down krang for revenge. then STONE WARRIOR/TRICERTAON BRAWL!!!!! Of course... Tom throws in a nice twist in there and make it waaaaay better than my bland story telling.

I would definitely want them to appear in IDW, but I'd prefer that they be aliens. I'm not too keen on them being mutants. Well, actually...

...I might make an exception to my feelings on the idea if they're both. But otherwise, I'd say just keep them alien.

They can be mutants AND aliens. They'd have to be. Have you ever seen a female Triceraton?

There are a lot of inconsistencies and misspellings in early Mirage; I think you'll find inconsistencies in HoneyCutt's very name in the same book, sometimes spelled with one t at the end, other times spelled with two. I'd blame it on Kevin, not Peter though.

To be fair, we don't know anything about Triceraton reproduction. There's three possibilities, really:
1) There ARE female Triceratons, but we don't see them, because their roles in their society have them doing things that wouldn't warrant us seeing them.
or
2) There ARE female Triceratons, and we HAVE seen them... but we just can't tell them apart from the male Triceratons, because to us they look and sound exactly the same.
or
3) There are no male or female Triceratons and they all reproduce asexually (this happens to be the case with, for example, the Nameks from Dragon Ball).
