I know this has been answered elsewhere on the forums but I don't feel like digging. What is the reason this book is missing issues and not in order like the last two collections? That is annoying

They're only collecting issues Eastman or Laird worked on in Ultimate format.
The 3 issues they're skipping are being released in a separate collection right afterward, so they're not being skipped for long.

Anyone know if the cover being shown around is the official one?
Kind of bummed if it doesn't continue the covers of the first two

The first two volumes had placeholder art used up until pretty close to the release dates when they finally unveiled the real covers. Hopefully that's probably what you've seen so far.
On another note, just noticed an Amazon pre-order (http://www.amazon.com/Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles-Collection/dp/1613774966/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1338059361&sr=8-5) for Volume 4 starting with Shades of Gray!

They're skipping from Return to New York all the way to Shades of Gray which was issue 48?

As Bobby has stated before, Ultimate Collection only includes the Eastman and/or Laird issues. They do not have a hand in writing any TMNT issues in Volume 1 until then. Sounds like 5 volumes altogether, with Shades of Grey/City At War split up unto two volumes.

Was it stated if Volume 2 will be in Ultimate format?

I'm pretty sure he said in the IDW forums that the Ultimate Collections will end with City At War since that was the last of the "Eastman & Laird" era, if you will. Someone even asked if Volume 4 would be part of the Ultimate Collection since it's Laird, but he said it's unlikely.

Cool I am getting mine pre-ordered.
Normally I do not buy more copies of something I already own. But these Ultimate Collections have been my exception. :D

They're not really skipping anything. It looks like the Classic collections cover any skipped issues. It works for me. I'm just glad to see CAW is finally getting a release, and HC at that!

hi dudes!
just logged in to tell you guys that bobby said on the idw forum that it may not be planned to go further than vol 1 caw, but if sales warrant he cought imagine they'll comming along with vol 2 in the ultimate format, and yes, someone asked about vol 4 being collected this way with specials and annotations by peter and jim, that was me, same answer, if sales warrant things could be taken into consideration....and here is the link to it, so that you can persuade yourself of the original words...http://forum.idwpublishing.com/viewtopic.php?t=10128&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=1080
