Big Break In episode questions

Three things I'm wondering about the original series episode "The Big Rip Off" and wanted to ask about here.

1) When the robot rampage begins, April is the only human in the building who's life is put in real jeopardy. All the other humans are simply ejected from the building, while she gets locked in an airtight vault. Did Shredder program the robots to specifically single out April or was she just in the wrong place at the wrong time?

2) Related to the first question, do you think April was acting professionally appropriate or incredibly foolish by staying there and continuing to calmly report on what was happening as the robots went berserk all around her?

3) And finally does Vernon seem out of character in this episode to anyone else? I get that he doesn't like April, but it is one thing to be a professional rival to someone, it is quite another to be so gleeful at the prospect of them suffocating to death. Vernon is often cowardly and obnoxious, but he was outright hateful in this episode.

Questions 1 and 2 are standard Fred Wolf April O'Neil: get caught by the bad guys to act as the TMNT's bait so that Shredder can finish them off while the turtles focus on saving April first, as a result of trying too hard to get the best story for Burne Thompson. And Vernon is basically his typical self, just turned up a few notches to make it feel like the season finale arc.

D'oh! I stand corrected.

Questions 1 and 2 are standard Fred Wolf April O'Neil: get caught the bad guys to act as the TMNT's bait so that Shredder can finish them off while the turtles focus on saving April first, as a result of trying too hard to get the best story for Burne Thompson.

The sad thing is Burne doesn't seem even slightly appreciative of April continuously risking her life to get him stories. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he actually docked her pay for the time she was locked in that vault.

Definitely the original series at its most epic, though I do feel sorry for April in it. She nearly gets killed twice in especially horrifying ways and completely fails to get any kind of story out of it (despite being at ground zero for much of what was happening.) No wonder she was so angry in the third part, this was probably the worst week of her whole life.

It's always the same in fictional stories. Guns, knives, violence, traffic disasters, earthquakes, floods and no victim seems to have any major problem with becoming chocked.

Or the constant times he would force her to do a story she didn't want to do and she winds up doing a story on the Turtles at the end anyways or at least being involved in the plot. I would imagine if the series had indeed ended with these three episodes, she would have moved on after the Technodrome was vanquished. In any case, this trilogy is the best ever!! Due to the random airings originally I wouldn't have known it was a trilogy. I can remember a random episode airing then the next day the Turtles are in the news van celebrating their defeat of Shredder and Krang. OK???

I doubt it was planned to be the end. 1989-1994 are the peak years of TMNT becomes mainstream popularity.
