Anyone else love how all the old TMNT stuff is finally being re-released for fans?

While we're on the eve of the new TMNT incarnations such as the IDW series, the Nick cartoon, and the upcoming movie, we're pretty much getting all the old stuff finally released for easy viewing:

- With Lionsgate Season 10 DVD coming out with the skipped eps included, finally 100% of the original cartoon is now on DVD. You can now watch any episode of the original cartoon at your leisure, assuming you collected the DVDs. For a 193 episode series, it is quite a feat that Lionsgate didn't give up on us halfway through and actually got it all done.

- All 4 TMNT movies are on blu-ray in a nice boxset.

- Next Mutation has just been announced to come out on DVD.

- IDW is releasing Ultimate Collections of the old Volume 1 material, and will eventually release the non-Eastman/Laird Vol. 1 issues and has a Tales collection announced. They have also confirmed they plan on collecting Volume 2, Image, and Volume 4 if sales remain good.

- IDW is starting to re-release the Archie TMNT Adventure series.


Basically all we need now is for Nick/Shout Factory to re-release the 4kids series on DVD with an uncut Turtles Forever for the U.S., and we'll have pretty much all the old TMNT stuff being re-released again.

I truly must thank Nick for not "erasing the past" and actually pay homage to old fans by getting this old stuff out again.

It truly is a great time to be a TMNT fan. We got the old stuff coming back and a new comic/cartoon and movie just starting.

It's less about Nick actively trying to get that stuff back out there and far more about them just not saying "No" to other companies wanting to do so via licensing. But yeah.

It is interesting how all of this stuff is being put out. I wish I still owned all of the OT series, though. As for the movies...I do have all of those (someplace). I like the fact that they're putting out the Ultimate Collections, though.

True, but just think, IDW could very well NOT be releasing old Mirage stuff, Eastman could have NOT come on board, they even said the staff of the Nick cartoon are aware of old fans concerns.

Considering how many companies tend to "bury the past" when new reboots come along and a property is sold, I think the TMNT franchise is quite lucky.

I think this is why there was an initial panic when Nick bought TMNT back in 2009, we thought they were going to sweep the history under a rug and force new incarnations of TMNT upon us. Instead, we're being gradually eased into new continuities while plenty of past honoring is still there. Its a smart move and builds trust in established fans.

But its still win-win for everyone. The companies get their money and we get what we want.

Just a few years ago most of the shows weren't on DVD, the movies weren't on blu ray, and there weren't that many collections of old comics that weren't out of print. Even Mirage's 2009 collection went out of print too fast and most never got a copy.

We're finally getting everything we want. Now if only Nick could rerelease the 4kids series in new DVD's we'd be all set.

This trend of the old stuff being released goes back to as early as 1997 when the original movies were first released on DVD. Just a year later, many of the classics Playmates figures were also re-released, so its nothing new really. Eventually, we are going to run out of classic material to re-release and we'll have to focus on new material to keep the franchise fresh and relevant. We've also had the 1989 NES game on virtual console and Turtles In Time Re-shelled. But as long as the buzz and demand is there for the classics and we remain loyal fans, we should continue to be rewarded with both classic and new material. Great time to be a fan.

the only thing I am worried about is the new movie, I am very optimistic but I am a little worried that it will fall on it's face. Glad to hear about season 10 being rereleased now gotta save and buy the complete series again after losing it somewhere.

More excited for the Mirage collections than anything. Finally consistent, series-wide collections available in large numbers at regular retailers. What a f***ing godsend. What a f***ing basic thing we've never, ever had before.

This was my #1 gripe with Mirage the entire time they owned the Turtles. They had this bizarre refusal to give it a go, although it's increasingly the way people are exposed to and follow comics.

Does anyone know if Shout!Factory takes fan opinion into account about series to acquire for DVD?

Since Nick ALREADY works with Shout to release their old shows to DVD, I would already assumed if we were to get any new 4kids DVDs, it would come from them.

This is all well and good, but I wouldn't mind if Nick also released COOTS on dvd (maybe a special edition with the making of). I don't know the logistics of music getting onto iTunes, but it would be kinda cool if they remastered the COOTS songs and got those on iTunes. I know COOTS isn't alot of fans cup o' tea, but there are still alot of fans that would dig that. I would.

I've still got the first eight volumes that made up the first season since they've got special features, but I wouldn't mind if any season 1 sets were re-issued with those bonus features. I have the two halves of the second season, but I could sure go for better releases for the third and fourth seasons with all of their episodes in the proper order. I also want a North American release of Back to the Sewer, and I even went into detail about that in another thread (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/showpost.php?p=957580&postcount=291).
