So this Saturday I will be attending my first signing, the one and only Peter Laird. I have never been to a comic signing before, just athletes. I was wondering what the etiquette is for signings. I don't have much that I could get signed, I was thinking TMNT Ultimate Collection Vol 1 B&W Variant, and/or my NECA color set. Are 2 items too many? Also, how do sketches work? For the book, id love it if he could do a small sketch on the blank first page, but if he only does those tiny heads, I was thinking of just getting it signed on the cover in "turtle green" paint pen. Does he even do sketches? I know Eastman does decent sized ones at signings. I really don't like bothering people, so I'm a little nervous lol....Any help is much appreciated...
and no....I will not get anyone sketches

Most likely you'll probably have to ask when you get there what the policies will be: number of items, what Peter will sign/doodle on items etc. People change their policies over time as well; for example David Petersen has stopped doing Mouse Guard as other characters recently, so the one I got with five of them as TMNT and Splinter won't be reproduced now.

The last time Peter did a public event, he charged for sketches. However, this was prior to selling the turtles, so he is in a totally different space now both mentally and financially. This signing is also at an event for a personal friend, so he may not charge on that basis as well. And no, 2 items would not be too many for signatures.
Also, I would be concerned about the signature coming off on that particular front cover since it is so high gloss.

I tested one of the new Sharpie paint pens on another glossy book and it looked amazing, and after about 20 seconds it really was water & abrasion resistant like they claim (I tried to scratch it to hell with a wet paper towel and my fingernail and not a bit came off)....you should defiantly try one out as the green one is a perfect 'turtle green"
I guess i'll bring a reg sharpie and my paint pen and scope out what he does for people in front of me. I am super excited as I know this is such a rare thing for him to sign.

By the way, if anyone else is going, and wants to make a few bucks, I'd love to send you a couple books to get signed. Lemme know!

I would make a joke about sending Turtlemania in the mail, but it's too obvious :P

I actually did send my Turtlemania Gold through the mail once when it went to get graded. The most nerve wracking thing I've ever done.

I went to a Peter Laird signing once when Mirage was still in biz. He was very cordial and signed around 5 or 6 things for me, and included a headsketch with my name in one of my First trades, all for free!

I had Peter sign a PBBZ Edition of #1 with "Greetings to the Technodrome"... he looked at me funny, but he seemed amused..
He's very pleasant in person. He seems to be one that'd prefer to be low-key, more intimate gatherings..

I posted about the opening in the general forum as it didn't just pertain to comics
