This year at Florida Supercon, which is June 29th I believe, I came across something interesting. There is going to be a class taught by Richard Horvitz where he will teach you the secrets of being a successful voice actor. They are charging $400 for this....

I'm like....are they serious? Who would pay $400 for that?

For those of you who don't know Richard Horvitz; he is the voice actor that has voiced well known characters such as

1. Invader Zim from Invader Zim.

2. Daggett from Angry Beavers.

3. Billy from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

And quite a lot of other characters as well.

But I'm going....why this guy? I personally met him once and he literally sounds like his characters, his normal voice. I think all he does really is yell and change the tone a bit but he does sound like them.

He is a nice guy though, he did sign my Invader Zim box and took a picture with me for free. (Usually at conventions, celebrities charge $20 for that)

Anyway...this is literally gotta be one of the biggest rip offs ever, that's my opinion though. The way it's advertised, it's like one of those seminars that claim they'll tell you secrets on how to succeed in college or how to find a job but it's all just ways to get more money out of you.

Who would honestly pay $400 for this?

Jester would.

Only if it was Rob Paulsen... I think it's way to much for just one class.

Oh yeah. Rob Paulsen, speaking of dudes with one voice.

Answering the OP.

F*ck No.

I agree with zkarlette. You'd be better off inquiring with the likes of Rob Paulsen or others for private lessons. $400 for a single group class doesn't seem like it could be worth it.

Indeed, Rob's group stuff is $100...but then it's not really a class. Not sure what his one-on-one stuff runs. More than I could afford that's for sure.

And Krow, I had no idea who that guy even was...until I read the credits...of characters I barely knew.

Just figured you'd be ambitious enough to take any opportunity to get your foot in the door.

Yeah, it's not like there's a recession and high unemployment or anything. :trazz:

Don't most American cartoons use already established actors now?

It seems new VA's best bet is to go get casted in some anime dub.

No, I wouldn't pay that much money for a VA class. Too expensive. Plus, I don't even know who this guy is because I've never watched those shows.

That is what I would like to know; how peole who take this class are even going to get casted as voice actors when a lot of voice actors were established actors or at least tried acting in the past.

Johnny Yong Bosch: Well known voice actor in anime dubs such as Ichigo from Bleach and Vash from Trigun but he had somewhat of a career as the 2nd black ranger in Power Rangers.

Danny Cooksey: Another voice actor who did Montana Max from Tiny Toons, Hot Streak from Static Shock, Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown and he started out as a child actor in Salute Your Shorts.

And yeah, we even still have voice actors in the past still do voice acting to this day:

Rob Paulsen, Phil Lamarr, Mark Hamill, Ron Perlman just to name a few and heck, Ron Perlman is 62 years old, so don't think they'll retire anytime soon.

I don't want to sound like it's hopeless to be a voice actor; I'm just saying it would take more than just a workshop to have a career as one. I think you would have to have experience working in Hollywood before you do; other voice actors I know of have done live action roles in the past.

You'd be better off buying a few books (some with CDs) on voice acting for about $5-$10 per book, and then sending a demo tape online using home recording software. I'd only pay that if it was a main VA from either the OT, movies, or 4kids show for TMNT given that I have never heard of Horvitz before.

For those of you who don't know what Richard Horvitz sounds like; here is some clips of Invader Zim.

I used Invader Zim because that's the best show he has done in my opinion.

Zim is the green alien with the red eyes. His human disguise is just eyeballs and a black toupee.

Starts at 0:13 with Richard Horvitz.

If it was the guys who voiced the Team Fortress 2 classes, I'd be all for it.
