With an influx of new members maybe it might be a good time to remove the post limit for the section. What do you all think?

Why? It helps establish people as members in good standing and not just coming here to use this forum and its members as a revenue stream or a way to finish a collection then bolt. It's not that much to ask to post 20 times and be here a week.

I think the influx of new members is all the reason to keep the limit.

My thought process is that it will help keep members who come here to sell items in that area, instead of posting elsewhere of what they want to sell or what they need. Yeah it kinda irks me when people come here to just sell some stuff, but we are a target market for some sellers, and we may be able to come out ahead on purchases.

I think the influx of new members is all the reason to keep the limit.

All points made are very true. I am pretty much indifferent on the topic right now. One side I would like to see what people would have to offer, on the other I'd like to keep our community clear of snake oil salesmen. I am just seeing what others thought.

Eh, I say keep the limit. If anything, I wish we could limit the number of new threads started each day/week by a single user. :tlol:

Especially when I could swear there were already threads about those very topics.

I know I'm a new guy, but I like the buy/sell/trade restrictions you guys have setup here. It feels a little safer. I frequent many forums and I've seen lots of guys join just to pull a quick scam.

I like the post limit too. I'm new here, but I think it's a good safeguard. The thing that has annoyed me lately is people making multiple threads for each item or type of item they want to sell or trade. We should all be limited to one thread started in the b/s/t section. If you have added something new to it just bump it to the top.

I have no problem with a person having two threads, but lately it seems that people have been creating new threads for EVERY item that they have available just to get more exposure. It is NOT that hard for people to find your stuff, guys. If someone wants to buy it, that section is easy enough to navigate in order to find it...

One videogame forum I moderate on, after years of people going willy nilly in the selling/buying area, got regulated when myself and another mod drew up some house rules for every one to abide by. Took a fair bit of work to keep people in check initially, but eventually we got things under control.

We installed, like here, a probationary period of ten days on any new joiner to prevent "fly by night" sale spammers, and we limited every person to a maximum of one selling thread, and one "looking to buy" thread active at any moment. Extra posts over the allowance were merged into the main thread, and the user warned. Three warnings meant we deleted their posts in that section and revoked their ability to post new threads.

Is there something, ANYTHING, we can do to get people to specifically read the guidelines for the B/S/T threads? Seems like at least once a week we have someone coming in and using all sorts of work arounds, because the forum is "broken".

I'm not sure if there is anything you can do short of either going to their house and taping the eyes open infront of the computer screen or learning telekenisis.

Other than that, having to read the rules as part of the sign up process.
This is probably already in place, I don't remember, like any internet rules and regulations people just skip them and click accept.

I had one idea that may help. On other forums that I've been on there has been a Started thread.
Think of it as a Forum index that people can use to quickly navigate to popular information. It can also be used as a guide, especially for noobs with no prior forum experience. It may or may not help this specific situation,
but by linking it in peoples signatures then the information is spread out alot more across the entire forum. And it's all more readily availble for everyone, as long as they want to look.

Here is how I sort of see it:

In your Sig you would have something like:
New to the Technodrome - "Start Here" <--Clickable

This would take you to a thread like this:

Starter Thread/Forum Index

Introductions Note
- Link to Introduction Section <hyperlink>

Forum How to's:
- Post a picture (clickable, etc.) <hyperlink>
- Post a Youtube Video <hyperlink>

- Turtle Lexicon/Dictionary <hyperlink>
- List of Accronyms <hyperlink>

Tutorials:

Now maybe this sort of thing exists and I have just not come across it yet, if so, I am sorry. If not, I would be happy to get it started.

BTW Post #50!

See above, aggressive adherence of the rules by the mods to nuke anything that people transgress. Eventually people will "get" the message... tough love, you know...

I get what you guys are asking for, I just don't think it's fair to blame people that are new to the B/S/T threads for what you might see as a mistake. I've been a member here for years, and only recently started using the B/S/T forums. I checked the guidelines thread and posted accordingly. I had NO IDEA that some of what I did was a "breach of etiquette" by the standards of some other users. The post minimum is not what I'm questioning here, it's the other problems that are mentioned here in this thread such as:

*limit the number of new threads started each day/week by a single user

*We should all be limited to one thread started in the b/s/t section. If you have added something new to it just bump it to the top.

*Is there something, ANYTHING, we can do to get people to specifically read the guidelines for the B/S/T threads? Seems like at least once a week we have someone coming in and using all sorts of work arounds, because the forum is "broken".

The guidelines for B/S/T only read as follows:

"Before participating in this section, please read the following guidelines.

In order to start a thread in this section, you must have been a member for at least a week and have at least 20 posts (permissions are applied automatically and may take up to an hour). You're welcome to reply to any thread even if you don't meet those requirements yet, though.
Please do not post about your own sales/auctions in another person's sale/auction thread.
You may not sell anything illegal here. This includes downloaded episodes/movies, copied DVDs, and comic scans.
Bumping your threads is allowed in this section, but please don't bump more than once every 48 hours. Any post that is made for no other reason than bringing a thread to the top is considered a bump."

Now as an example of what some members are upset about, I made 3 threads one weekend, one was for comics, one was for MOC action figures, and one was for loose action figures. I did it that way because I felt like the items were different enough to warrant different threads. Since the current guidelines do not say anything against this, I thought I was fine. After I learned that others were taking offense, I asked that the threads be merged into one.
This was what I did, but according to the guidelines, I didn't have to do anything. The same can be said for any member that wants to post as many threads as they have unique items to sell. They don't have to change their post, nor do they deserve any penalization under the current guidelines.
I'm all for having updated rules, and I'm more than willing to oblige my fellow members when they let me know I've done something "awry" in the forums. I just feel like many of the complaints that are against other members are a bit unjustified due to the lack of more specific rules. Even after reading and adhering to the current guidelines, there are things being done that people are taking issue with... this isn't the fault of those users.

So would anyone consider what I am currently doing incorrect?

I have one thread stating that I am looking for the playmates 9 in raphael statue, and one for my wtb/fs/ft list. My wtb/fs/ft list is mostly comics that I am looking for and my doubles that I have up for sale/trade.

They might consider it incorrect, but until new rules or guidelines are made, you aren't technically doing anything wrong.
