View Full Version : Krang could be the new Chrell!

Hey guys, I was thinking. What If IDW took The Idea on Chrell, but instead made him krang. Heres what I mean.

I don't actually mean he is chrell, but that he has a similar back story to him.

This is pretty simple: Krang could come from the Utrom home world, he could also be a villain from their world, just like chrell was. They could take a different take on the 4kids show, and mix it around alittle more, to make their own version of them. This would also be interesting to see the utroms try to take down Krang too! (Or mabey some even side with him!) And who knows we might be able to see the Guardians again. (Who for some reason I loved, mainly because of what the wore, and how they dissapered soo good!)

What do you guys think?

The main point of Ch'rell is he took over the Shredder's identity and became head of the Foot Clan.

Krang, as far as know, isn't going to become the Shredder. Krang also has a Rock Warrior army and may be from Dimension X. He's at war with the Neutrinos, not the Utroms.

They're fairly different.

Ch'rell took on the mantle of the Shredder and pretented to be Oroku Saki , Krang isn't pretented to be human like Ch'rell was. They're both different characters

I've been saying that since the beginning. That would seem the most amicable solution to me... and also wouldn't preclude a Ch'rell Utrom showing up later on (though I would hope not as the Shredder).

I think this is where some Nick influence will come into play. Krang will be from "The Kraang" race while the Utroms will be a separate species that evolved from a common ancestor.

People need to remember that Krang's design is actually different than an Utrom. Krang has much longer tentacles and is much more round like a ball.

IDW TMNT and Nick TMNT were developed separately with only sparing notes/suggestions given here and there at IDW TMNT along the way (or so we've been told), so I don't think that's too likely.

But this is IDW TMNT, a brand new universe. If IDW TMNT tells us that Krang is what an IDW Utrom looks like, then they could all look like that.

The Utrom Shredder was nothing more than a hybrid of the Mirage Shredder and the concept of Krang from the original cartoon anyway. So to say "maybe they'll make Krang an Utrom like Ch'rell" is kind of ridiculous. There is still quite a bit of mystery surrounding IDW's Shredder-- but does anyone else think it odd that his "competitor" would be a small alien from another dimension? Thinking he is going to turn up being the Utrom reincarnation of the Oroku Saki who killed Hamato Yoshi, Shen, and their sons in the first place isn't farfetched considering that Yoshi and his sons were reincarnated as a rat and four pet store turtles.

I get it, By Krang is Ch'rll you just mean krang is an utrom villain who came to earth. Hmmm I've been thinking the French Savate guy was an utrom guardian for awhile now, like they recruit people from all over the place. I'd actually like that better than Krangs original backstory.

Krang and Ch'rell are very different characters. The only things they have in common is they're small brain-like creatures.

Krang is not the head of the Foot Clan, he has his own army. Krang specializes in creating mutagen, whereas the ooze was a byproduct of the Utroms' transmat.

Krang is not going to take over the mantle of the Shredder. Ch'rell took in Karai as his adoptive daughter, Krang has nothing to do with Karai.

Lastly, although this may be different in IDW, Krang has always been more sarcastic and humorous than Ch'rell. Even in Archie he's portrayed with humor moments. In IDW he already called Baxter a baffoon, so we'll see more of that I'm sure.

He's just saying krang might be an Utrom in this universe..I don't know why he brought up Ch'rell.

I can see where this idea is going. Not saying that he will BE Ch'rell but their characters could be very simular. As in Krang might be an outcast Utrom warlord. And I would actually be okay with that. So if your talking about they will have simular story arch I could see that.

Despite being the same individual Ch'rell and Shredder were very different characters. This Krang may end up resembling Ch'rell prior to his shredder days more than he resembles Krang. However he doesn't appear to be the main villain in this arc so we will have to see. I must say the serious take on humorous characters is fantastic, Which brings me back to bebop and rocksteady....for which we all wait patiently.

Krang and Ch'rell are very different characters. The only things they have in common is they're small brain-like creatures.

Both Fred Wolf cartoon Krang and 4Kids cartoon Ch'rell are cackling evil, brain-like, exiled alien (former) warlords living on Earth marshalling their forces, utilizing the native Foot Clan, planning a planetary takeover, and walking around via a humanoid robot body.

Sounds pretty damn similar to me.

By that logic, Ch'rell was Krang....or as many said back in the day, SHREDDER IS KRANG!

In his "General Krang" getup he kind of is, though.

Most of these differences are pretty thin. The only main difference is that Ch'rell was the Shredder, so it would naturally follow that Karai's story is more tied to the Shredder's. As others have pointed out, the similarities far outweigh the differences.

No isn't, Ch'rell was Oroku Saki in the 4Kids Cartoon and General Krang doesn't have a human identity in IDW, Just because they're both brain-like creatures doesn't mean they're same. It's like saying Thanos and Darkseid or The Green Goblin and Hobgobling are the same characters

corvus

No. It's like saying ultimate green goblin and green goblin are the same character.

This argument is stupid. We don't know enough about General Krang to say for sure.

What I've seen of IDW's Krang just seems like a serious take on the same character, with a focus on what was rarely shown in the cartoon. Even in the OT, Krang is using his rock soldiers to fight a war with the Neutrinos in Dimension X, and intends to use Earth to further those efforts. (I'll be highly amused if IDW uses anything introduced in the Japanese materials that expand on that war.)

Anyway I see them as plenty distinct characters as they are, so unless General Krang starts making his own Shredder exoskeleton I don't think that's where they're going with it.

Or if Krang ends up being an Utrom warlord....

Krang and Ch'rell ARE two completely distinct characters. however... i gotta admit... i've always wished Krang could just be an utrom. he already looks like one (besides a few changes here and there). Krang has the potential to become (or may already be or have been) an utrom warlord... he already commands an army. and i have to agree with the peoples above me who think idw's krang may be just an utrom. he doesn't have to take on the mantle of the shredder or even take up the same side... krang and ch'rell are very similar in many ways. yes... of course he's a serious take on the OT krang... otherwise that would be a whole new character. i don't think krang necessarily IS ch'rell... but can very well adopt ch'rell's backstory in idw and incorporate OT krang to create one seriously evil utrom general.

In the old TMNT daily comics, Krang was an Utrom...not sure where that falls in "canon" but it's something.

Regardless of whether Krang is similar enough to the Utroms to be considered one, the plain fact is that he looks too similar to one to be in the same universe as them unless he was an Utrom himself. Just a little too silly and unncessary to me to have two alien races that look so similar. I guess time will tell if they'll show up and if Krang is one of them!

So you have a problem with Vulcans and Romulans?

corvus
07-02-2012, 02:24 PM
I hope so. I'd hate for this universe to not have utroms. Apparently Microseries #8 is to start off a story arc with the fugitoid, judging by the solicitation it'll have Krang as the main villain and we'll learn all about his origin and hopefully what race he is. I'm guessing if he's not an utrom then they don't exist in this universe.

So you have a problem with Vulcans and Romulans?

I know that's a Star Trek reference, but I don't watch Star Trek so it's hard for me to comment... I did a quick wiki (or a qwiki) and it states that Romulans have common ancestry with the Vulcans and are meant to be a counterpoint to them. That I have no problem with at all because there's a biological and thematic reason for their visual similarities and ties.

I wouldn't say I would have a "problem" with Krang, a disembodied alien brain being in the same universe as the similar looking Utroms, but if they don't have a likewise ancestral and/or thematic connection, it would definitely feel like it would be a silly and unnecessary contrivance/distraction for them to just happen to look so alike. Part of what the reboot appears to be attempting is streamline the turtle universes, so why not do the same with Krang?

In the old TMNT daily comics, Krang was an Utrom...not sure where that falls in "canon" but it's something.

Moot point after Laird's "Krang's an Utrom wannabe" remark, it probably should be said.

In overall themes, both characters are similar, sure. Personality-wise, which is probably what the real debate is and not unlike what we've had with the "Which is better: 87 Shredder or 03 Shredder." Krang is more entertaining as a character, while Chr'ell is better at his job, and so forth. However, Krang in the first two seasons proved to be quite the Ch'rell-like SOB on rare occasion (as both really had it in for Baxter). So, if only Krang didn't have to deal with the 80's censors, as Ch'rell didn't have to, etc.

If IDW Krang does become the series' version of Ch'rell, then model him after Archie Krang. He still got to be a SOB, killed off the planet of Huanu and still got to have his quirks along the way. Win-win. Or, if we end up with both Krang and Ch'rell in the same book, then make them actual characters and not living props/plot devices.

i agree exactly. i thought it was clear that i too wish for krang to be an utrom. i too believe it is a bit redundant to have multiple species of similar looking aliens. i think it is silly as well. but i guess only time will tell.

Glad you feel the same way! And this is obviously a matter of opinion, but I'm all for it because I don't think it would be changing any core aspect of Krang, especially if he was originally inspired by them anyway. If anything, it kind of feels like he ought to have been one from the start.
