View Full Version : Do you think there will be any deaths allowed in this show?

The 4kids series actually got away with a couple of deaths for both major villains and minor characters. Not to mention some Foot or Triceratons along the way who seemed to be dead, (Mike pulls the grenade pin on a Triceraton's buckle and he explodes off-screen).

Do you think the Nick show will allow any deaths? The Avatar shows on Nick have allowed death, so I hope this does too.

Probably not. But people will get stung by bees and stuff.

It would be ever so slightly implied, if anything. But nothing up front, I'm sure.

Watch at the end of episode one of 2k3 it will be that kind of death if any.

I doubt it. Not on Nickelodeon. It it was Cartoon Network I'd say yes.

I doubt it. Not on Nickelodeon.

The Avatar-shows says otherwise.

There won't be a lot of them. And Nick won't allow any death (the reason Jet's death is "only" heavily implied in A:TLA is because Nick didn't allow teenage-characters to die on screen).

So, will deaths be allowed? Sure. At least for adult characters. Will the writers kill off characters? I don't know. Obviously. Stupid rhetorical question...

If the show allowed any deaths to happen, it'll most likely be off screen. We do know that Shredder blames Splinter for the death of his "true love" based off what was on his bio.

I can see implied deaths that could allow the character to be dead but also brought back. It probably would not have been done like the first replacement leader of the Purple Dragons gang having his heart sliced through for failure but something like Super Shredder dropped the pier on himself and is implied to be dead but could shake it off if the writers ever decide to use the character again.

if batman Brave and the Bold can have deaths, on-screen death mind you, so can this show.

But do we want it, or even need it?

They'll never show anybody actually being killed, but I don't see why they wouldn't have implied deaths if it's important to the plot. Korra had implied deaths ... heck, even Spongebob has implied deaths.

The deaths in the 4Kids series were implied. One of the episodes that had the garbageman saw a captian going down with the ship. All you see his his hat floating in the water.Which gave you a sense that something bad happened.

Though what makes you think the writers will be creating those kinds of plots (in which "implied death" is important)?

Only time will tell, I suppose ... but I'm envisioning a much sillier, "slapstickier" sorta show.

Wait! What?! Someone was actually killed on "SpongeBob"?! (Or do you just mean that pirate dude?)

I'm okay with implied deaths, but what I'm not okay with is if any of the characters survive any sort of thing that would qualify as completely/outrageously fatal in most other shows.

Some examples, a villain is dumped in lava and comes out of it like it was pizza sauce. A henchman is caught in a building explosion, he is arrested later with only a few burns and holes in his clothing. I don't want "Character Invulnerability Where Death is Near-Impossible" in this TMNT show.

Looks like there will already be stuff like that in there. In the trailer alone, Michelangelo jumps like 100 feet in the air to avoid an explosion.

I'm guessing a big, "Probably not." This is a kids' show meant to sell toys and video games to children. The older crowd would probably be happier with the IDW comics or the Mirage hardcover re-releases if they're looking for a little bit of death and some heavier fighting.

Sure, a death or two might be implied within the entire run of the series, but I'm sort of seeing this show as more of the Brave and the Bold-esque love letter to the brighter and more fun-loving adventures of the TMNT franchise and less of the Under the Red Hood-esque DTV comic book retelling that Mirage was trying to get Imagi to do at one point.

Well, off the top of my head, there was that episode where Spongebob buried a guy in the sand whilst the tide was coming in and left his "friend" Bubble Buddy (a non-sentient bubble) to dig him out. Later on in the episode:

I think that ninja turtles will lie about half-way between Korra and Spongebob, and will be too slapstick to have serious deaths but too serious to have slapstick deaths, IYKWIM. With Korra it's okay for them to kill off characters because they have an agreed number of episodes and a pretty rigid storyline. Ninja turtles, however, has the potential to go on much longer so it would be no good if the villains actually got killed because then they couldn't come back in future episodes.

Thinking back to the 4Kids show where Leonardo only used his swords on robots and inanimate objects, I figure that the only thing that'll "die" in this show are robots. Everything else will be kicked or punched unconscious until the next episode.

Hopefully. Also, I hope people in the show are allowed to use guns (REAL guns that shoot bullets). I always thought it was dumb in 2003 that all the street gangs used laser rifles.

Coola Yagami
07-07-2012, 01:54 PM
Not really. It's a cartoon for kids. Little kids. Like most cartoons, the only people that any 'normaly fatal' stuff will happen to are to the freaks that can survive it. Like how in the cartoons crooks shoot at Superman at all the time to show off how the bullets bounce off, but you never see Lois Lane getting shot or anything.

after seeing Nick Mikey in action, I might wish death on him. Too early to tell yet from a trailer, but it looks like the interaction between Mike and his brother will be taking it's cue from the 2k3 series.

I'd like there to be "death" in the show. I say it like that because you know that they wont stay dead. I can't see them getting rid of Shredder as the main villain, or if they did it would only be a temp thing.

Now lower ranking characters? We might see some of them die. It would be cool to see a Slash like death from Archie in the new show.

With today's saturation of media, its difficult not to experience death on a regular basis. Expect the villains to die from time to time given how many Disney Villians have died. For the good guys, I'd expect nothing worse than comas. Remember that April and Splinter were in comas in the OT (Enter: The Fly and Beneath These Streets for example). Even though April's parents may die in this series, expect any good guy death to be shown behind the scenes.

If any TMNT show ever includes people being sliced up or carnage of a similar nature, I'd probably rank it lower than The Next Mutation.

Dude totally agree. It's fine in the comics and doesn't bother me as much. I just don't want to see it in the show. I mean if ti was a direct adaptation like DC was doing DTV that would be one thing.

swords usually are meant to cut people, if they have one or two scenes through an entire season, indicating that a person got cut off screen, lethal or not. It wouldn't really be a big deal. but, children's show and censors.

Genesis

I like the way they do it in the video games. His swords just kind of hit the enemy, and they fall back with maybe a slight slicing sound with a more bludgeoning sound. It doesn't show anything graphic or bloody (and maybe adding a sound effect image, with this show), but it keeps Leo from looking like an idiot by kicking all the time and then suddenly a master swordsman against robots.

I would rank it just below Next Mutation with Image. I just can not get behind Ninja Turtles that kill or are battle scarred beyond the missing pieces of Leo's shell in the 2003 cartoon because the turtles have evolved past that altogether in comics and cartoons. As for the character deaths why not like the handful did in Justice League either off screen or in a fall or explosion that there is always the chance to return but if the writers want to not ever sue said character after that can be presumed dead.

Ocean Master took a nasty fall in an early Justice League episode but could always be back with a vengence yet is dead. Aresia, the renegade Amazon died in an explosion of an aircraft but could have always survived. There is always the twist that a dead Felix Faust could still return even if dead. Black Manta/Devil Ray was outright shot to death by Deadman but could be said to have gone into a deep coma instead if the show had lasted another season and Aquaman became available once again to be used. The finale example would be something like Dr. Destiney's wife who was said no to have made it. Aside from Fasut this is the most clear but like any fiction one can be brought back from a defined death. What I am suggesting with these examples is it can be made to look like a character dies but leave it open for a return.

Death happened both in Avatar and Legend of Korra on Nick, so it's totally possible. Legend of Korra especially had a pretty dark death in the season finale that involved a murder/suicide. You obviously didn't see the details, but you saw the actions leading up to it and the explosion that killed them.

According to that recent story in the NYTimes, Nick at least discussed the possibility of killing off Splinter:
Not sure if anyone has seen this yet but here is an article on the show. It mentions some concepts that were considered like having Splinter die.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/30/arts/television/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-retooled-for-nickelodeon.html?pagewanted=all&_moc.semityn.www

So I guess the possibility of death (even of major characters) is at least on the table.
