I remember rewatching my old favourite show for the first time in over 10 to 15 years some years ago and being really amused about how often in the german synch the turtles and other characters wuld curse out loud;)hahahah

many things like that...saying **** or ****ing **** if you translate it for real;)
good old turtles used to use a lot of slang, too, but not always common slang, but inventing new pictures and figures of speech as the went along, that was some of the most fun stuff to me in the show;)they were so cool characters that they're still loveable and orginal even after all these years;)

Curiously enough, sexual harassment is one of the few issues ("LGBT concerns" being another) that current cartoon creators are actually more cognizant of than their predecessors were. Particularly in comparison to any episodes which aired prior to the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings.

Why not? It was already the late 1980's, and in the episode "Turtles, Turtles Everywhere", they did have a mother turtle lay her eggs in a hole on a beach. (At the same time, local TV news showed a real life mother turtle doing the same thing.)

The interracial couple was hardly hidden; they were featured in the foreground as they witnessed a manhole cover knocked out of place by a stream of water with Michelangelo on top.

Anyways, I always found it quite odd how Leonardo "killed" that giant Venus Flytrappy monster in such a graphic/grisly/gory fashion (even if it was only a vegetable). Plus Michelangelo was dressed up as a plant woman at the time (adding a disturbing layer of homoeroticism to the murder).

Morphing into Muckman makes sense, I suppose (sorta), but why would his partner transform into, like, some ugly little alien ass clown?

There was a creepy episode where Shredder pushed an ugly geek(delivery boy) into a vat of chemicals mixed with mugaten inside a factory. You can see his body parts floating around in the mutagen before transforming into a shape shifting mutant.

I can't remember the episode, but it's the same one where the nerd transforms into a handsome guy and gets a date with April.

Honestly, I'm not that impressed in terms of what the OT got away with, as everything presented was mostly acceptable at the time, except for the nunchucks issue of course, which many feel was a bad move. You guys are treating the original series like its Looney Tunes/other golden age cartoons from the distant past. The World Trade Center plots weren't even that bad since it involved using them to power other vehicles or to defend the enemies. There wasn't much negative press about these issues as they aired, and most could still fit in with today's cartoons.

Go back to the first two episodes, where April used 'sissy' and Rocksteady used 'bimbo.' These days, April would be labeled as homophobic and Rocksteady as sexist. (Okay, Rocksteady was probably being sexist in that scene, but no one would have had the vapors and scream for him to be pulled, like it could kinda sorta happen, today.)

The issue may not be so much what they got away with, but more "how the series didn't have to deal with much political correctness." Many things, like Irma's man-chasing, simply wouldn't be done, today. (To say nothing of actual plot, like Shredder's successful destruction of the Channel 6 building.) As for the violence issue, it may have been the odd trade-off, that allowed the writers do the various things that have been described on the thread. (Win some, lose some, perhaps.)

Furthermore, anytime pre-Red Sky April was animated, it is, frankly, amazing no one back then freaked out about her "Gainaxing." It probably would still happen, except people on both sides would be more aware and be far more vocal about it, thanks to the interwebtubes.

I remember back in high school we used to shove the head right down into the basin, until the day that Marty Feinberg almost drowned and wound up in a coma. After we got a Saturday Detention (which was ridiculous, I mean a whole Saturday of punishment. Its not like we killed the guy) we decided that it would be better if we just put the top of the head in the toilet, so stopping with the forehead at the rim. Turns out that was the way we should have been doing it all along anyway as it gave more of a swirly effect to the hair!

To be on topic (because who wants to talk about swirlies?), there were certain lines, even as early as Season 2, that foreshadowed such writing. The best example I can think of is Raph's infamous one line in "Catwoman from Channel 6." Viewing one of their sci-fi movies, he said, "I hope she's a real screamer."

A lot of old entertainment isn't politically correct by modern standards. I remember an old Popeye cartoon taking place in medieval times, where Bluto is The Black Knight and Popeye fights him and knocks Bluto into a horse-drawn garbage cart. Bluto tells the audince about his revenge plans, and adds at the end, "After all, they don't call me The Black Knight for nothin'!" Then a bunch of soot falls out a pipe onto Bluto's head, and he then looks African-American.

Back to the turtles and their political correctness, or moreso, the TinTin comics and THEIR lack of political correctness. But I suppose that stuff didn't exist during their creation in the late 1920s and into the 60s or 70s.

Didn't they have to change a lot of Tintin comics in Belgium some years ago (2004 or something). I liked Tintin as a kid, and I had no idea how old they were. I laughed when they depicted Tintin as the first man on the Moon, I was like, comon, just because it's a fictional story, you can't avoid that Neil Armstrong was first. Little did I know, it came out in the early 1950's.

Does anyone else think it's a little scary for a kid's show to have a guy make a toxic canister that can destroy every plant, vegetable and tree in the world? That's from Raphael vs. the Volcano.
